Is it just me?

@TiptoeThroughTheToadstools I really like your name

Aw thank you 😊 I love Alice in Wonderland x

I think her saying 'some of these Asian men' refers back to her saying her daughter isn't the only one this has happened to and that there have been 'several cases'.

It's badly worded.

Conkersareback · 01/12/2022 20:30

@Coughybreak so you think the "Asian" man hung around to be arrested?

She got the girls into Tui, alerted staff, the police came and the Asian man was still arrested in Ashfield high street, must've been the only Asian man there, and the police must've swapped the area with police to find him, 10 minutes after a report! Fucking amazing.

He was then arrested, charged and bailed by the next morning?

More holes than Swiss cheese!

Had any one else experienced such wonderful policing?

Conkersareback · 01/12/2022 20:32

WondrousWinger · 01/12/2022 20:25

It's not fake. I just found the original on fb very easily - search 'Layla Asian man'. Pops right up.

The profile is clearly genuine, pics of mum dad and two DD's going back years. Comments on the post from their real life friends and family. Husband has shared the wife's post.

So people who have FB history don't lie......

Ok then 🙄

AccioChocolate · 01/12/2022 20:35

Half of the post itself is a weird FB pamper/nails/holiday brag and the other half is a thinly veiled racist attack on Asian people.

It's just FB in a nutshell.

WondrousWinger · 01/12/2022 20:41

I said it's not fake. It's not a spammy fake profile with totally made up nonsense which is blatantly obvious from scanning the profile. It's a genuine person with genuine kids.

I didn't say every word was true. But I thin on balance it's highly unlikely to be totally fabricated.

The man who led me away actually followed me back to the place he'd found me when I ran away. So if there had been police around, or security people as there are in shopping malls, they might have been able to catch him.

Conkersareback · 01/12/2022 20:44

@Coughybreak he wasn't in the mall, it clearly states he'd gone into the high street.

SemperIdem · 01/12/2022 20:47

I would be willing to guess the person who posted the Facebook post would not have instinctively shouted “get the fuck off” at a white man.

Her child is 9, he wasn’t dragging her off, it’s more likely he thought she was lost and was trying to help her.

So yes - yanbu

GCAcademic · 01/12/2022 20:47

I’ve lost track of the number of these posts on FB I’ve seen over the years about attempted abductions, always by foreign men. At one point, just before 2016 referendum, they were always Polish.

This one will be a load of bollocks, like the rest of them.

Iammatrix · 01/12/2022 20:53

I haven't these Asian men in Ashford town centre. It is becoming more and more diverse but there certainly isn't an overriding number of Asian men to be concerned about.

There is though a significant number of mums with little ones - maybe like OP, who experienced this.

Giveaschitt · 01/12/2022 20:56

How come they were doing their holiday nails just hours before leaving for the airport, then all this happened, the police arrived, went to their house to "dna swab" the girl's arm (?!?!) and they still had an hour spare before they went to Gatwick... Followed by "the next day while in departures at Gatwick waiting for our plane I was emailing the officer in charge.."?!

So many questions about that time line......

Iammatrix · 01/12/2022 20:57

Not had OPs experience - mums with little ones, I meant. Ashford town centre has it problems, but Asian men does not seem to be a prevalent problem.

Why would they? Are you saying based on this "one" account, that Asian men are a pre determined problem?

Coughybreak · 01/12/2022 21:00

HeraldicBlazoning · 01/12/2022 19:53

Funny how there has been no mention of this serious incident on news media.

It's almost as if someone's made the whole thing up.

What would the media report? A woman said a man tried to kidnap her child, but she rescued her and police released him without any charges. That's just one adult's word against another's.

Newspapers don't print that sort of thing. When you read about these incidents it's because the police did charge the offender, and you read a report of his trial. Whereas people tell their own stories on Facebook.

And the woman's writing style seems natural to me. She hasn't been trained in how to tell a story. It's not a professional job, it's someone furious that a man tried to lead her child away and the police let him go.

Don't large shops have security guards? I don't see what's so hard to believe.

What does surprise me, on Mumsnet, is how many more readers are expressing concern about possible racism than about the little girl or her mother.

Iammatrix · 01/12/2022 21:08

Sorry I should have been more clear. I have not seen a lot of Asian men in Ashford town centre.

OPs post may be read that the town centre is overrun with nefarious Asian men. I did not Intend to suggest or allude to Asian men being nefarious.

GCAcademic · 01/12/2022 21:08

Thats because we’ve seen this kind of fake news countless times. It’s always a variation on the same story.

Conkersareback · 01/12/2022 21:10

@Coughybreak yes large shops have security guards, but he was "arrested" in the high street!

I'm sorry, but I don't believe the whole story, the time line doesn't add up to me. So yes I believe it's been posted to stir up racial hatred.

TomTraubertsBlues · 01/12/2022 21:11

Yes, it's racist. But it's also complete fiction. Anyone who's ever reported a serious crime to the police will know that they don't give you the kind of information the woman is claiming.

And the timings make no sense. She had to be at Gatwick in an hour but was still waiting for her plane (and messaging with the police) the next day?

It's got bells on.
