This FB post is doing the rounds amongst my friends.

Is it just me?

It’s a load of racist nonsense. I would report it as hate speech, someone made up a shitty unbelievable scenario to call out Asian men.

TabithaTittlemouse · 01/12/2022 20:00

TiptoeThroughTheToadstools · 01/12/2022 19:58

Not racist at all, but I'm not sure said parent would appreciate it being posted on mumsnet without her permission, there is a lot of outing information on the post that was not yours to share. I think you should remove the screen shots.

Her made up child

Her made up child

Could well be 🤷🏼‍♀️

TabithaTittlemouse · 01/12/2022 20:04

@TiptoeThroughTheToadstools I really like your name

HRTQueen · 01/12/2022 20:09

Yes it’s racist

some of these Asian men 🙄

healthadvice123 · 01/12/2022 20:09

First thought no but then got to last page and yes racist in my opinion

Conkersareback · 01/12/2022 20:09

How many times does she need to mention Asian man, the child didn't deserve to be grabbed by an Asian man, other men ok then?

Totally racist.

Clymene · 01/12/2022 20:10

It's racist and it didn't happen like that.

But it's all over Facebook........are you having a laugh?

Coughybreak · 01/12/2022 20:13

Is that really what you took away from that story, OP?

Concern about racism comes a long way down the list of my reactions to a little girl being grabbed by a male stranger in a crowd:

It's very easy to disappear into a crowd.

Take your eyes off a child for a second and they could be gone.
This must give every parent nightmares.
Is the little girl having appropriate counselling, or whatever help is necessary to get over this?
Some people say it's best to minimise these things so she just forgets about it (that was the response when it happened to me, and I have never forgotten it).
Has he done this to other children?
Has he got previous convictions?
If not, is it because he gets away with it every time and people are too upset to push for him to be charged?
Will she ever get over it?
Will she ever feel safe again?
Will her family ever feel their children are safe again?

And many more like that.

You actually think it's true??

How do you know, Clymene? Have you read a different account of the same incident? Or heard from witnesses?

Toospicey · 01/12/2022 20:15

She has made it public and asked people to share it.

I don't think it's completely made up. We've got mutual FB friends and her profile looks genuine.
I think she's probably just a (racist) "U ok hun?" type who has maybe exaggerated the details.

I agree the attempted abduction is awful. But the continent he comes from is just irrelevant and it encourages small minded people to think badly of all "asians".

Conkersareback · 01/12/2022 20:16

@Coughybreak have you seen the police account?

It's bull shit!

Sorry don't believe it's true.

crisscrosscringle · 01/12/2022 20:17

Let's not forget that fear of being seen as racist was a driving force behind the fiasco in Rochdale.

Not everything is racist FFS.

(And no, I'm not white)

Coughybreak · 01/12/2022 20:17

Conkersareback · 01/12/2022 20:13

You actually think it's true??

Well, something quite similar happened to me at about the same age. I can't believe I was the only child it's happened to. Why do you think it's not true?

IncompleteSenten · 01/12/2022 20:17

Yes it is.

If he was white she would just have said man.

Also her sentence "what some of these Asian people are doing, they're getting away with it and that's not ok"
Is racist.

Defaulting to white is part of the problem. Feeling the need to insert someone's colour unless they are white is part of the problem.

How many times do you hear

I was talking to a white woman on the bus about the weather...
V
I was talking to a black woman on the bus about the weather...

If the colour of the person is not the reason for the actions it is irrelevant to the story so why include it? I have never heard someone tell a random story about a white person and tell me that person was white. I don't assume a story about a person told without mentioning their colour means that person was white.
But they do.
Everyone who needlessly inserts that descriptor unless the person was white does so for the same reason.

cravingmilkshake · 01/12/2022 20:18

It's not racist, I do think it's a description from someone who probably isn't too great with words.

Not everything is racist.

AuntyPeanut · 01/12/2022 20:18

That was very tedious to read. Interesting she chose a 'foreign' name for her daughter. Sort of like India, the daughter of Katie Hopkins I suppose.

Conkersareback · 01/12/2022 20:16

It's bull shit!

No. Have you got a link? When I clicked on the screenshot, I only got the document with the mother's account.

toffeecrisps · 01/12/2022 20:20

It's all a bit "and everybody clapped" to me.

PonyPatter44 · 01/12/2022 20:25

Its odd that she used the word "Asian" to describe a Chinese man. That's a more American usage. If a British person described someone as Asian, the assumption would normally be that the person was Indian, Pakistani or Bangladeshi. That linguistic clue makes me a bit suspicious that this might actually just be a badly-edited bit of copypasta.

And yes, before the usual pedants start their vaudeville act, I am aware that China is in Asia.

WondrousWinger · 01/12/2022 20:25

It's not fake. I just found the original on fb very easily - search 'Layla Asian man'. Pops right up.

The profile is clearly genuine, pics of mum dad and two DD's going back years. Comments on the post from their real life friends and family. Husband has shared the wife's post.
