Tony’s chocolate

What do you all think of it?

Tried it for the first time today and it tastes of nothing. You can taste the filling (we had a pretzel flavour) but couldn’t taste the chocolate at all. And why is it no in squares?! It’s so difficult to break apart and eat!

aibu? This is chocolate is weird!!

Agree - more gimmick than taste!

Winterfellismyhome · 27/11/2022 13:52

Ridiculously expensive

seashaken · 27/11/2022 13:52

I quite like it but think it's very overpriced. And the struggle to break it is annoying.

UnsolicitedOpinions · 27/11/2022 13:53

I think it’s horrible. It somehow makes my mouth feel sore.

LydiaBennetsUglyBonnet · 27/11/2022 13:53

No I love Tony Chocoloney but you have to try the plain chocolate as the bars with crap in them are rank

PeachyPears · 27/11/2022 13:55

It’s the only chocolate we as a family regularly consume, so love it

although I don’t enjoy the pretzel bar, plain milk, sea salt caramel and the pink one are our personal favourites

BusySittingDown · 27/11/2022 13:55

I love the chocolate but sadly not as much as Cadburys.

It's not in squares to symbolise the fact that the world is not equal (or something like that).

QueSyrahSyrah · 27/11/2022 13:56

We like it, I got DH the advent calendar this year.

Apparently the bars are unequally divided in order to represent the inequality in profits in the cocoa / chocolate industry.

CatJumperTwat · 27/11/2022 13:58

I've only had the plain one but it's very average. Not worth the price at all.

InFiveMins · 27/11/2022 14:00

It's vile 🤢 almost as bad as Hersheys.

RambamThankyouMam · 27/11/2022 14:01

I can't deal with the fact that it's Tony's ChocoLONELY and not ChocoLONEY.

Why lonely? It annoys me so much I can't bring myself to buy it.

I thought it was until someone on MN made a thread saying she thought her ex bought it as a deliberate attempt to upset her 🤦🏻

MoirasSaggyBundles · 27/11/2022 14:03

It's a dutch brand. They have a beautiful cafe and "factory" shop in Amsterdam, where you can create your own bar and label and they make it up for you. Our DC had a great time making up a bar for their grandma's special birthday. I don't like all the flavours, but the plain bars are nice. Just finished a bar of 42% cacao milk chocolate, and it's lovely. YY to the unequal world symbolism.

SpringIntoChaos · 27/11/2022 14:04

I don't like it at all...and the price is ridiculous!

Also explained on their website, and refers to the fact that no other chocolate companies seem concerned by slavery in the chocolate industry.

Tony's is apparently slavery free. Other brands, not so much.

cookiesbeforepookies · 27/11/2022 14:06

I really like the milk chocolate bar.

And it’s 100% slavery free.

And why is it no in squares?! It’s so difficult to break apart and eat!

More chocolate for your money.

greenacrylicpaint · 27/11/2022 14:06

yanbu
I hate it.
it's too chunky and the criss cross ridges drive me crazy.
and it doesn't taste very special.

MoirasSaggyBundles · 27/11/2022 14:06

And because [the creator] felt as if he was the only person in the chocolate industry who cared about eradicating slavery, he named his chocolate ‘Chocolonely’. Make sense? The chocolate industry was a lonely place for those crusading for 100% slave free!

I applaud their ethics, but the chocolate itself - at least the milk chocolate - is tasteless.

MsChatterbox · 27/11/2022 14:09

Agree. I finally got it last weekend after I heard some raving about it. It tastes like cheap cheap chocolate! Not impressed at all.

MassiveSalad22 · 27/11/2022 14:10

YANBU I have a big hatred of Tony’s

  1. tastes of nothing
  2. hard to break apart
  3. I bought a bar from Hamleys (hadn’t tried before) and it had bloomed so tasted of even less. Contacted them, they let me choose FIVE BARS to send me free, I was very pleased but they never sent them!!!! So, I’ve written them off as all talk and no substance 😄
HoldingTheDoor · 27/11/2022 14:17

The plain milk tasted like cheap Advent calendar chocolate to me. The salted caramel was nice but I wouldn't rave about it. I haven't tried any of the other flavours yet.

PuppyMonkey · 27/11/2022 14:20

Another one who doesn't get the hype, didn't taste quite right to me when DD had some - kind of reminded me of a poor imitation of Caramac.

Testina · 27/11/2022 14:23

@cookiesbeforepookies how is it more chocolate for your money? It’s sold by the gram not by the number of squares.

Rumplestrumpet · 27/11/2022 14:24

The uneven "squares" is the whole point. It's slavery-free, hence the price, so this expensive for good reason.

I actually really like it, but even if you don't like the taste, it's hard not to like the ethics!
