AIBU?

To be totally turned off by this?

Went on a first date with a guy I met online last night, went out for dinner. When I got there I definitely found him attractive. However when it came to ordering drinks he ordered himself a glass of milk.

I've honestly never came across someone doing that in a restaurant and I just think it's really odd and really put me off him. I have tried to work out why this was such a turn off and I can't come up with a reason it just made me feel a bit yuck.

AIBU? It's just so odd on a first date I feel.

Reference to Edmund in Hunderby. Was there any reason eg for diet? Otherwise and even so, it's a bit weird and not nice on a date. What other weirdness happens at home?!

Wouldn’t bother me.
Better than ordering alcohol.
Green flag from me!

It is a bit strange. Not really what you’d have as first choice with an adult meal! More like something you’d give a child to have with an apple. Watch out for him being a secret adult nappy wearer ;-)

Is that the only thing? Could be worse.

I'd rather a sober date than a pissed up date. Wouldn't bother me in the slightest.

It doesn't have to be alcohol or milk.

There are quite a few other options.

Milk is a bit weird.

How would you have felt if he ordered a milkshake?

I think if everything else was great with him you would probably overlook it, but you clearly weren't feeling it anyway.

Its a bit unusual I guess, but I probably wouldn't think much if it.

i think it depends where you were really and what you were eating - maybe with a curry eg lassi etc isnt that odd. equally burger and milkshake is acceptable so milk isnt a massive step if he doesnt like the texture of a thick milkshake.

fancy resturant having steak or pasta then milk is a bit wierd!

Is he Dutch? It's not abnormal.

I need you to ask him.

Was it a bet, or something?

If he was Dutch, totally normal. Otherwise a sign of independence and knowing his own mind?

Maybe he had heartburn. It works really well!

Or maybe a sore throat.

Or maybe he just fancied milk.

Totally fine to find it unattractive though. You don't have to be reasonable about that. I always find eating bacon unattractive as I wonder if they'll have bacon breath after.

I'm with you but there's nothing really wrong except that he broke a cultural norm

Did you go on a date with my dad? He always has milk with his dinner.

Was your date from a rural background? It was definitely common when I was growing up (on a farm) for people to have milk as a drink.

I can't quite pinpoint why but this would really put me off too, it's just a bit "odd"

It’s a bit strange having a glass of milk on a dinner date. I wouldn’t have batted an eyelid had he ordered a soft drink, mineral water or alcohol free beer.
