AIBU?

To be totally turned off by this?

Went on a first date with a guy I met online last night, went out for dinner. When I got there I definitely found him attractive. However when it came to ordering drinks he ordered himself a glass of milk.

I've honestly never came across someone doing that in a restaurant and I just think it's really odd and really put me off him. I have tried to work out why this was such a turn off and I can't come up with a reason it just made me feel a bit yuck.

AIBU? It's just so odd on a first date I feel.

I used to live in the rural US and lots of adults drank milk with their dinner. This honestly wouldn't put me off at all! Did something else bother you?

Perhaps he has a calcium deficiency or requires it for some other reason.
In any case if that is all it takes to put you completely off someone, have a nice life being single.

He had one glass of milk then went on to water. I wouldn't have batted an eyelid if he'd ordered a Diet Coke or whatever, I was drinking either.

I went on a first date with a really gorgeous bloke and he ordered a Diet Coke. Awful but I found it so off putting for some reason. No idea why. I wouldn’t have been impressed by a pint of Stella either so I’m clearly very unreasonable!

What was he allowed to drink?

I drink squash (or to give it a proper name, diluting juice) constantly. I've never dated a MNer though.

My OH drinks like by the bucket load… but he would never have ordered it on a first date. Or any date actually. He usually tells me he fancies some milk to drink when we are out eating and I’m usually the one saying well if that’s what you want then order it… but he doesn’t because he finds it embarrassing.

Because teetotallers are worse human beings than drunk drivers?

You know there’s a middle ground between being turned off and thinking they’re worse human beings than drunk drivers, don’t you?

What was awful- the fact that it was DIET Coke, or that it was a soft drink?

Yes it was the diet bit. Don’t know why at all but it gave me the ick

It wouldn't bother me, but I like strange folk. If you don't, it's fine to move on!

As I would be having a glass of wine with my meal, then yes it would put me off. But then I like a drink and wouldn't want to date someone teetotal. The fact it was milk does appear more "childlike" than a soft drink. I'm not even sure why. Maybe just because it is quite uncommon (depending where you live).

If the rest of the date was good, I wouldn't let it put you off. See what happens next time.

It would put me off because I'd assume he's a psychopath. Did he specify whole or semi skimmed?

Reminds me of Matt Tebut and the Scandanvia chefs milk with meatball standoff.

Matt obviously thought it was mental, the Chef said it was stadard to order milk with a main course back home.

Or worst of all… skimmed!

I once refused to date a guy who didn't drive, it completely emasculated him in my eyes. I got totally slaughtered when I posted about it on MN. But it put me off him and I didn't want to date him!!! OP, this one is up to you!

I’m not certain, but I think that’s essentially a White Russian?

I'd be ordering the same, far better than a pisshead but I suppose it depends what you want in life or how shallow you are.

If it was whole. Wouldn't have an issue

Really unfair but it feels off to me.... like he's being babyish.... but a milkshake would be fine.

No idea why and no logic in it whatsoever lol.

He ate Cajun chicken crepes but he ordered the milk before he even looked at the menu.

Could of had heartburn 😂

@SlippingIntoTheTwilightZone I didn't include skimmed because I'd have assumed OP wouldn't be here to tell the tale if he was that disturbed

It's a bit strange. It's quite childish so on a date, where you want to feel some spark and attraction, it's a bit of a dampner.

To be perfectly blunt, I'm attracted to fairly macho men so a date drinking milk in a restaurant doesn't fit that attraction.

If everything else was OK on the date though, I'd give him another chance. Perhaps find out why milk is his drink of choice if he does it again.

If it's for digestive reasons I'd encourage him to down the milk privately at home before going out to eat!

FFS! Ordering a pint of beer doesn't make you a pisshead.wife beating scumbag. Also, like mentioned earlier there more than two options.

I'm not sure what kind of life someone who drinks milk on a date in a restaurant would bring as I have never known any adult do this.
