AIBU?

To be totally turned off by this?

Went on a first date with a guy I met online last night, went out for dinner. When I got there I definitely found him attractive. However when it came to ordering drinks he ordered himself a glass of milk.

I've honestly never came across someone doing that in a restaurant and I just think it's really odd and really put me off him. I have tried to work out why this was such a turn off and I can't come up with a reason it just made me feel a bit yuck.

AIBU? It's just so odd on a first date I feel.

Hardly a red flag is it unless he keeps a cow at home for an on tap drink...

LOL! That’s hilarious!!

This reminds me of a night out I had a good 6/7 years ago and I had been drinking wine all day and well into the evening and came down with the worst heartburn of my life . I was desperate and tried to order a glass of milk at the bar to help with the heartburn but they only had cream. So I ordered a class of cream LOL 🫢

It's just milk!!
I once worked with a girl who went for a date with a guy she met online. She completely dismissed him after the first date because he sat upstairs on the bus...!! 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️
Ridiculous!

OP totally agree - it would be a turn off for me too, but can't really put a finger on why. Socially a bit odd I suppose - if you go out with mates, is he going to be ordering pints of milk?!

As long as he didn't drink it from baby bottle, fine by me.

We're you in an Indian restaurant or did he order spicy food? Or maybe he had heartburn?

  • I once dumped someone after a few dates because he never drank water. Like, ever. I noticed this and asked. He confirmed. Dumped.
  • On a first date, a guy licked his knife. There was no second date.
  • Another date ‘couldn’t eat meat with bones in it’ and ‘thought vegetables were a waste of time’. Instant dumping.

Sometimes people give you the culinary ick and that’s that. You don’t owe anyone your time. I’m now happily married to DH, who (amongst his other delightful qualities) drinks water, has excellent table manners and is an adventurous eater.

Did he sit right at the front on his own?

You can't really help what puts you off someone though.

I wouldn't find it off putting unless he sat there with a milk moustache throughout the meal.

And if he was Homelander I DEFINITELY wouldn't be put off.

Maybe he has stomach problems or something and does it to line his stomach before eating. X

I was going to mention stomach problems too, he might feel a little bit embarrassed saying about them to early on?

Sometimes my 25 year old has milk with his dinner, however, he would always order a soft drink when he is at a restaurant.

Ffs why the hell should that matter?! So he didn't want to drink he likes milk perhaps it was to settle his acid stomach who cares what matters is did you fancy him did you like him was it fun is he a nice person. Or do you prefer the wife beating child abandoning gaslighting unfaithful inconsiderate rude ones that order a pint instead. Fookin ell priorities

What did he say when you gently ribbed him about it - because that would be the real test for me, whether he takes himself too seriously or not. Although if you’re not going to see someone again because they drank milk it sounds like you do take life too seriously so I don’t think I’d be able to date you either 😂

I also love milk and sent this to my son who also loves milk. So not dissing milk drinkers - but then also I wouldn't order it on a date and would find it a bit odd.
