Albanian migrants question

Everyone knows the U.K. is really short of staff since Brexit and that is pushing up prices for food etc. If we now (like it or not) have a huge influx of Albanian young men who actually want to work, wouldn’t we be better off letting them legally get jobs here and treating them like the Europeans who left?

Maybe I’m being too simplistic here but I’m not sure how keeping them unhappily detained for long periods in processing centres then spending something like £7m a day putting them in hotels without letting them work is helping anyone. Obviously it’s different if someone has just come over to claim benefits and has no intention of working but I get the impression that’s not the case for a lot of these young men.

If you think I’m wrong, you can explain why and still be nice about it 😁

And it’s all very well to say just deport them all to Rwanda/back home, but I think we all know that’s not going to happen due to all the legal challenges.

If we did that then half of us would have to admit that the warnings about Brexit were correct and, as we all know, that must be avoided at all costs.

YellowTreeHouse · 05/11/2022 11:56

No. We don’t have the infrastructure or services to support our own nevermind letting in anymore.

AndyWarholsPiehole · 05/11/2022 11:57

I agree with you. It's ridiculous we have fit young men that want to work and improve their lot in life and yet we won't allow them to do that. They could be a great help at the moment, our economy needs them.

geonosis · 05/11/2022 11:57

They need to be detained in order to check their backgrounds as to who they are and whether any criminal record before they release whoever into the general population. Plus check whether any right to be in the U.K.

No. We don’t have the infrastructure or services to support our own nevermind letting in anymore.

One of the main reasons we don’t have infrastructure and services is a labour shortage.

BMW6 · 05/11/2022 11:58

You really think all these young Albanian men are coming here illegally to work legitimately and pay UK taxes? Seriously?

BorgQueen · 05/11/2022 11:59

Albania is a hub for drug gangs and people trafficking, how do you suggest we check these young Men? Thousands of young Ukrainian Women and Girls are missing, thought to have been trafficked by the above.

And also, don’t they already get these rights as asylum seekers, they just aren’t allowed to contribute by working?

We have plenty of people needing work in the UK.

I just read an article in the Times which suggests they do want to improve their lot, have nice things (they can earn 5 times as much in the U.K. as back home) and work for legitimate businesses.

CharlotteStreet · 05/11/2022 12:04

Forgive my ignorance but my question is what are Albanians claiming to be "escaping from" in Albania? Is it that bad there?

I agree. I guess I’m just saying, if they are here anyway and there’s no sign of the influx stopping, would you rather pay taxes to keep them not working (or only able to do illegal jobs) or would you prefer them to be able to contribute?

Goodoldvera · 05/11/2022 12:06

We have a lot of them in my city, lots of gang violence, drug dealing and people trafficking. The ones I serve always pay their bills in cash so don't think they're here to the jobs we need doing to be honest...there are good and bad everywhere of course

We have plenty of people needing work in the UK.

Why aren’t they working then? So many industries are crying out for workers.

No. We don’t have the infrastructure or services to support our own nevermind letting in anymore.

That is absolutely nonsense and a political/ right wing view.

LesterBiggott · 05/11/2022 12:09

They need to be sent back to Albania. Our boarders are too porous and needs dealing with. And there is no reason for them to be here.

We don't have the infrastructure for mass migration.

I don’t disagree but, in reality, the U.K. government isn’t doing this (so a lot of the migrants can’t apparently be stopped from coming in or deported).

What makes you think they want to work have you asked them ??

mamacattiva · 05/11/2022 12:12

OP you are being incredibly naive. Albanian gangs run the drug markets around here, if you go to any coffee shop there is always a group of men whiling away the day waiting for a phone call, then speeding off in a top of the range merc once instructions have been received. Then they return, and await the next phone call. Rinse and repeat, every day.

(I used to spend a lot of time in coffee shops studying, their lives looks incredibly dull but it must be v good money.)

lollipoprainbow · 05/11/2022 12:13

@giggly wake up and stop being so naïve.

Badger1970 · 05/11/2022 12:14

Time to look after our own. Pensioners, children and the disabled are starving/going cold whilst our Government is throwing billions at keeping these people in hotels/fed/warm.

It's never right. They're leaving a safe country by choice.
