Don't flame me for this - just an observation

I work in conveyancing and I have noticed a huge upsurge in people from England trying to sell up and move to Scotland. I know they will get more for their money up there but someone today and yesterday were total pissed off the Government. I am sure it works both ways and there is an influx to England but has anyone noticed a difference - particularly people from London especially.

Why would you get 'flamed' for this?

qualitychat · 04/11/2022 19:20

Everything seems to turn into a bun fight on here.

I'll be doing the opposite soon likely because am also 'pissed off at the Government' if the SNP continue down this trajectory!

sst1234 · 04/11/2022 19:21

Anyone with kids moving to Scotland should worry about safeguarding given the the govt is the biggest risk to children now.

But yes, you get so much more for your money there.

Fizzadora · 04/11/2022 19:23

Perhaps it's a government plot to massively populate Scotland with English people to vote against independence😂😂😂

Beanbagtrap · 04/11/2022 19:24

I would be tempted if it weren't for the safeguarding issues. Purely to avoid hot summers in the south of England!

Ludo19 · 04/11/2022 19:41

I'll be doing the opposite, the SNP are an absolute shitshow

They will all be busting a gut to move back if wee Jimmy Krankie gets her wish for Indyref2 😉

Mezmer · 04/11/2022 19:49

Scotland welcomes mass immigration so Scottish folk should be well happy!

Swapping the Tories for the SNP is like going from the frying pan to different frying pan. It’s not a utopia, by any stretch, and they’re not a perfect government.

Au contraire! The couple I know who has moved up to Scotland will vote for independence in the hope that Scotland will (re)join the EU.

alphasox · 04/11/2022 19:55

Maybe they’re exchanging one shit government for another but at least they’ll have a substantial family home with land and views instead of a pokey flat above a kebab shop on a busy A road. I can see why it’s tempting.

Good luck with that one....

UK voted to leave. Yes, you shot yourselves in the foot.

It will take years to get back.

Meanwhile, life has moved on. We have a war in Europpe now to deal with.

I think the cost of living is more serious.

Reminds me of this classic Harry Enfield sketch Dougie the Scotsman 😁

maddiemookins16mum · 04/11/2022 20:03

I’d move up there purely for the Scotch pies, morning rolls, square sausage and all the other fabulous bakery items.
Oh and the 2 bed house for 90K in Gourock.

Such a shame that non supporters of Nicola Sturgeon have to resort to name calling and slagging of her appearance to get their point across. Why can’t you say what you have to say without commenting on her appearance.

AssumingDirectControl · 04/11/2022 20:09

I’ve thought about it but certainly not for political reasons, it’s definitely not some kind of escape from English issues, they have their own. Mostly because I have family there and housing would be cheaper. Trouble is, I could get a job easily enough but my specific type of role doesn’t really exist there, and I happen to like what I do.

So would I, but as you say the other issues are too real.

I live in England and would move to Scotland in a shot, if not for the weather. It’s not great here but I don’t think I could cope with Scottish weather, if I lived there. I love Scotland though and holiday there each year.

We also have close friends there who always try to convince us to move over.
