I work in conveyancing and I have noticed a huge upsurge in people from England trying to sell up and move to Scotland. I know they will get more for their money up there but someone today and yesterday were total pissed off the Government. I am sure it works both ways and there is an influx to England but has anyone noticed a difference - particularly people from London especially.

Absolute BULLSHIT
and you know it.
we have close relatives that are fucking seething about the drop in standards, and now the NHS is just about to collapse. Seriously please stop lying.

You are talking nonsense. The NHS in Scotland is managing to do better than any other part of the UK. If you think it’s bad here imagine how bad it is across the UK.

Lol, do you think tax isn’t generated in Scotland? We got back a portion of what’s sent down.

To be fair if you look at the stats - Scotland is clearly benefiting hugely! Everyone knows that, if you weren’t Scotland would have been independent ten years ago plus

jennakong · 04/11/2022 21:24

@geraniumsandsunshine There is a Bangor in Wales yes, but it is also a large coastal town (now a city officially, to everyone's amusement) in Co Down, about 12 miles from Belfast.

Katie Dolatowski.

But yes, let’s just allow any predatory male claim they have gender dysphoria with no medical diagnosis and get a magical piece of paper telling everyone they’re a woman after 3 months.

Fuck that.

They must be pretty stupid, Scotlands chance of joining the EU - with their new Scottish pound currency, huge debts and unsustainable living standards outside the U.K. means their chances are zero.
So either your friends are dim witted or this is made up,
Most people I know won’t even holiday in Scotland now, such is the anti English sentiment - and we are half Scottish and can’t imagine we will return to see our family. They now come to visit us, and are devastated by the racism directed at their English family. It’s not all of Scotland that feel this way, but all that can be heard is the SNP and it’s poisoning relationships as it was intended to do..

My partner is English, my daughter's partner is English and my brother's wife is English. We all live in Edinburgh/Lothians. Dont recognise your depiction of anti-English racism.

Your comment about Scottish debt is ill informed. The Scottish Government has no power to borrow, so does not run up debt. If you are referring to the pretendy ecomonics of allocating costs of HS2, the London Olympics, Hinkley Point etc, you need a better argument.

XingMing · 04/11/2022 21:25

So they are not successful enough to benefit from and make use of all the tax schemes available across Europe to encourage pensioners to move? If you only have a UK state pension to live on, then you will not be encouraged to move to an EU country where you will be poor but ineligible for benefits. The option to choose where you want to live is limited to people who HAVE money and assets.

Anecdotal evidence but not my experience at all in visiting Scotland whatsoever. Funnily enough you are right - it isn't all of Scotland that feel this way - fancy that.

Worriedddd · 04/11/2022 21:27

I considered moving to Scotland, my grandparents and my mum live there. I have an English accent as does my DD. I would move there but there's so much xenophobia because of my accent. Both sides of my family are Scottish heritage.

ProudMarysHandbag · 04/11/2022 21:27

OP, If you really do work in conveyancing them you will have access to all the trade journals and will know all the market trends.
That's if you have been doing your research.
So I am wondering why you want to ask a bunch of people on the internet about this?
Maybe you aren't very good at your job and want to pad out your latest assignment with quotes from 'buyers'?
None of this gives Jo Public any confidence in the house-buying industry.

Have you personally experienced it? If so, I'm really sorry.

My nephew who is born and bred in Scotland has a posh English accent because of my SIL (its the weirdest thing!) and he doesnt get any grief. Maybe because there is a lot of English people in Edinburgh?

No you have severely misunderstood if Scotland were to become independent sadly for them as in all divorce proceedings they will also be liable and on the hook for lots of the debt too, given how much they have benefitted. No country leaves without paying their debts - U.K. is still competing payments to the EU for instance. If Scotland defaults it would ruin their credit rating over night before it had even begun.

Tarragon123 · 04/11/2022 21:34

The Conservatives wont subsidise a spare bedroom. You really think they will subsidise a whole country? It was all to do with the oil in 2014 (which bizarrely was due to be finished by now according to all the pro Union folk) and it will be all about water and renewables next time.

We'd move tomorrow if it weren't for elder care
We have lots of friends and links in Edinburgh and Glasgow, DH born & grew up in Edinburgh, and my grandparents and mum from Glasgow.

Ok, divorce. Assets and liabilites. Who gets all the assets, such as embassies? Who gets the seat at the UN security council? What happens to the nuclear weapons in the Clyde? Got to be a trade off against liabilities. Remind me what joint assets the UK has with the EU?

Luckydip1 · 04/11/2022 21:39

@Hooverphobe massive advantage of retiring in Scotland over England. If you have Alzheimer's you will save hundreds of thousands by moving there with the free care. If I was ever diagnosed I would definitely move to Scotland.

Kissingfrogs25 · 04/11/2022 21:39

Jesus Christ it is striking how ill informed some people are about the actual reality. Sturgeon clearly managed to convince the slow witted at least.

Scotland would be one a third world country effectively overnight. The Scottish would be totally fucked. Pensions, savings, currency, status all become junk over night. Please look at the facts.

West coast so not as cosmopolitan as Edinburgh. Yes I've been asked how my pal Boris is when I last went to visit. I've never voted for Boris 🤣🤣🤣.
