Boris Johnson vs Rishi Sunak

I think both are awful and we should have a general election but if you had to choose between these two, who would you choose to be PM?

YANBU = Boris
YABU = Rishi

Rishi is very neoliberal fiscally and I disagree with his ideas. However, I think they are sound ideas that one can and doesn’t have to agree with. He seems a competent hard working person who would make responsible and thought through decisions in times of crisis (Covid, war etc).

BJ on the other hand is a well spoken idiot on a power trip, and his decision making process seems to be “what will make me popular” and “what will benefit me personally”. The fact that he didn’t see Covid coming in March 2020 after we had the numbers from Italy is all I need to know.

So not really a choice at all.

It’s how we ended up with Liz Truss that I don’t understand.

Blossomtoes · 22/10/2022 14:56

It’s like a choice between gonorrhoea and syphilis.

thisisme2468 · 22/10/2022 14:57

@Blossomtoes that pretty much sums it up.

Stop with the amateur dramatics. The prolonged lockdowns will cost far more lives, even in the medium term.

sst1234 · 22/10/2022 15:00

Boris coming back would be bad for the Tories and the country. There is a reason he got kicked out in the first place. Sunak was a terrible chancellor, borrowing and printing money like it was going out of fashion to pay for the lockdown hysterics. It’s why we’re in the mess and we are. But it will be him that gets chosen.

balalake · 22/10/2022 15:01

@sst1234 prompt action would not have meant prolonged so-called lockdowns. Children back at least part-time in the summer term of 2020, and October is a lot easier time to be stuck at home than November, because of more daylight and less cold weather.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 22/10/2022 15:02

Boris Johnson should be in jail imo
I'm no fan of Rishi but I'd rather have him than Johnson any day

whoareyouinviting · 22/10/2022 15:03

I've lost the will. How can a party oust someone then 6 weeks later back them again? Utter chaos.

falllakes · 22/10/2022 15:06

Boris is unfit for public life.
That was why he had to resign as PM.

I don't much agree with Rishi but he isn't personally and professionally morally bankrupt and corrupt.

So Rishi seems the sane choice.

lemmein · 22/10/2022 15:06

The only place BJ should be is in a cell - amazing what the 'elite' get away with.

This , I agree with every word

Hbh17 · 22/10/2022 15:07

My only complaint about Boris is that he continued lockdown(s) for far too long, with much damage as a result, but one would hope that ALL politicians have learnt the lessons on that one!
Sunak was thus also backed into chucking money about unnecessarily, but he generally seems to have the right idea and understands the markets - who ultimately call the shots, let's face it.

Boris is a fascinating character, and his lufe story will make a great film one day, but perhaps things would be more stable with Rishi.... 😂

WeAreTheHeroes · 22/10/2022 15:11

It's an absolute joke that Boris could come back as PM and so quickly. He's a disgrace. Liars and untrustworthy idiots the lot of them.

That said, you need Sunak and Mordaunt to each get more MP votes than Johnson in order to prevent the membership voting Johnson in.

AdoraBell · 22/10/2022 15:14

I was chatting with a few people yesterday, they both said Boris should come back and “all” he did was go to a couple of parties 🤦‍♀️

As a pp said, Rishi Sunak isn’t morally bankrupt.

I’m seriously wondering if I can persuade DH to move back to Latin America.

VladmirsPoutine · 22/10/2022 15:20

Rishi because come general election time he absolutely would not win so the tories would be out.

MintyFreshOne · 22/10/2022 15:21

Sunak should have been disqualified when it came out that his Uber-wealthy wife declared non-dom tax status

lljkk · 22/10/2022 15:23

I thought Rishi was alright until he started trying to mimic things Truss was saying in leadership contest about tax cuts for growth. I'd still choose him over Johnson, but honestly, what a unpleasant choice...

Re "Poor Boris Ukraine and Covid aren't his fault" : Great how quickly people forget Johnson ignoring the sex pest MP, defending the lobbyist-influenced MP, piroguing Parliament, lying to the Queen, driving out most the old hands in his party because they could not countenance a No Deal Brexit, writing opposing essays to decide which populist opinion on Brexit he most supported, stupidly expensive wallpaper he didn't pay for... Which of those scandals were also "Poor Boris not his fault" ?

SwedishEdith · 22/10/2022 15:23

I'm leaning to the idea that it should be Johnson so he can then eventually bring the whole Tory party/Leave cult down for good when his next scandal breaks.

Blossomtoes · 22/10/2022 15:24

VladmirsPoutine · 22/10/2022 15:20

They’re not going to win next time regardless of leader. They could resurrect Thatcher and they’d still lose.

TheLeadbetterLife · 22/10/2022 15:27

It would be a disaster for the UK, but a part of me kind of hopes it will be Boris, as that really will be the final nail in the coffin for the Tory party. And entirely self-inflicted too. They literally keep voting for the worst possible option every chance they get, since the Brexit ref onwards.

I'm not sure he was honest regarding his wife's tax affairs!

Isitsixoclockalready · 22/10/2022 15:33

I mean Johnson would f*ck up again - there is literally no doubt about that but even as a non Tory, I'd have to say that Sunak would be a more sensible option for them.

balalake · 22/10/2022 15:34

@TheLeadbetterLife Rishi Sunak would do much less damage in the two and a bit years until hopefully the Tories are voted out.
