Boris Johnson vs Rishi Sunak

colddayinhell · 22/10/2022 14:45

I think both are awful and we should have a general election but if you had to choose between these two, who would you choose to be PM?

YANBU = Boris
YABU = Rishi

I think Rishi is less embarrassing on an international stage and so many of our issuess are global so id prefer that.

XingMing · 22/10/2022 15:35

Sunak is likely to be less damaging.

Paslaptis · 22/10/2022 15:36

Sunak 's the lesser (we)evil. The whole thing makes the conservatives look ridiculous. They got rid of their Party leader, found a bunch of people they thought might be better, and picked the "best" of these.

Now that one isn't good enough, even though she was BETTER than Johnson or Sunak (or Mordaunt) and even though she's done what she was specifically chosen BY the Conservatives to do. They should have let her stay until she wanted to resign or until an election was called, even if that meant Jan 2025.

And if they can't do that, STOP taking the piss bringing back people even LESS acceptable than her. If they're going to have yet aNOTHER leadership contest, they restrict it to MPs who've never run for leader before.

Let's see, I propose:

Bim Afolami
Gareth Bacon
Jonathan Djanogly
Antony Higginbotham
Holly Mumby-Croft
Chris Philp
Tom Purseglove
Selaine Saxby
Maggie Throup
Laura Trott

No logic, just names that would be fun to hear on the news.

Or they could just appoint (s)elect Bill Cash. UK Prime Minister Cash - now that would be truth in advertising!

Blossomtoes · 22/10/2022 15:46

Please not Djanogly! He’s my MP and he couldn’t be more useless.

balalake · 22/10/2022 15:34

@TheLeadbetterLife Rishi Sunak would do much less damage in the two and a bit years until hopefully the Tories are voted out.

Of course he would. The members would be absolutely insane to vote for Johnson, but they've already done it once, AND voted for Truss, so one can only conclude...

WhileMyGuitarGentlyWeeps · 22/10/2022 15:49

Rishi.

bevelino · 22/10/2022 15:50

whoareyouinviting · 22/10/2022 15:03

I've lost the will. How can a party oust someone then 6 weeks later back them again? Utter chaos.

This and well said.

I fear that a Tory membership who voted in Truss, despite clear warnings will vote for their precious Boris. He will be a hugely divisive leader and has the arrogance and entitlement to believe that the country is ready for his return after just 6-7 weeks. Unbelievable.

Yettoconfirm567 · 22/10/2022 15:50

I’ve voted Rishi but only bc the choice is so limited! Boris Johnson obviously unsuitable. But Rishi doesnt have huge experience as a minister in many departments and the step up to PM is demanding. Also, he supported Truss! Total omnishambles.

Yettoconfirm567 · 22/10/2022 15:52

Bet Boris is regretting having that parliamentary enquiry hanging over him now.

KellyTelios · 22/10/2022 15:54

Both terrible choices. It does say something about the party who cannot find a decent leader to put forward. Hope there's an election soon.

BritWifeInUSA · 22/10/2022 15:56

Rishi Sunak is lucky he’s not in custody over here for his lies to CBP and the IRS and his fraudulent use of a green card. My mother was banned from being able to visit me here in the US but he waltzed in and out of the country for holidays by lying about his status here.

If he will lie to the US government for his own personal gain, what will he do to you?

WhereIam · 22/10/2022 15:57

Sunak would buy and sell him in a debate.

An honest politician? If you find me one - please produce him/her. Given that most of them are crooked, just give me one who is not going to fucking annihilate the economy.

He ran against her lol. He didn't quite support her. He wished her luck and was magnanimous in defeat.

It’s like a choice between gonorrhoea and syphilis.

I think both gonorrhoea and syphilis would make better Prime Ministers.

PBSam · 22/10/2022 16:02

Team Boris. I quite enjot the circus tbh.

WhereIam · 22/10/2022 16:08

They made a good duo back in the day with Boris as the plonker and Sunak as Rodney.

Rishi is very neoliberal fiscally and I disagree with his ideas. However, I think they are sound ideas that one can and doesn’t have to agree with. He seems a competent hard working person who would make responsible and thought through decisions in times of crisis (Covid, war etc).

BJ on the other hand is a well spoken idiot on a power trip, and his decision making process seems to be “what will make me popular” and “what will benefit me personally”. The fact that he didn’t see Covid coming in March 2020 after we had the numbers from Italy is all I need to know.

So not really a choice at all.

It’s how we ended up with Liz Truss that I don’t understand.

We ended up with Liz Truss because Johnson and his allies orchestrated it. He's been planning his return since the day he resigned.

Same! All those thousands lives needlessly lost during covid were so hysterical my sides have yet to recover!

User17956743 · 22/10/2022 16:16

Rishi, Boris locked down too much

LaurelGrove · 22/10/2022 16:21

Sunak showed very poor political judgement in relation to his wife's non dim status. And I thoroughly dislike his politics. However, given the choice - not that I will be because we are all trapped in an endless hell of the Tory party's infighting and at the whim of their MPs and members - I'd pick him over Johnson who has repeatedly shown himself entirely unfit for public office.

amspeechless · 22/10/2022 16:25

I absolutely fucking despair that this is a likely scenario…faith in human nature is at an all time low!

Except that circus is an actual country, which the Tories keep throwing to the dogs.
