Boris Johnson vs Rishi Sunak

I think both are awful and we should have a general election but if you had to choose between these two, who would you choose to be PM?

YANBU = Boris
YABU = Rishi

If my boss is a cunt (morally) but he manages to keep a company going so that I can continue with earning a wage and living my life as I see fit, I don't give a fuck if that boss's morals are questionable. If he's a sadistic, cruel cunt? That, I take issue with. If not? It's between him and God. Would I nominate Boris for sainthood? No.

Nobody cares about your arsehole boss, if you don’t like you can get another job. These people are running the fucking country. At my age I can’t just go and get another country. Jesus, no wonder they say we get the politicians we deserve when people have such low standards.

100a% this!! People are insane!

Blossomtoes · 22/10/2022 18:12

People are insane!

Yup. But not the people you mean.

DullAndOvercast · 22/10/2022 18:14

How the fuck Boris is even in the running is beyond me.

Rishi has big issues - but does seem how to run an economy - short term getting things on a even keel - winning next general election I'm not sure he would but can any Tory after all this.

I do wonder if there's another lurking candidate but there seems to be no suggestion of that so far.

DullAndOvercast · 22/10/2022 18:15

does seem to know how to run an economy - that should read though don't think the Tory party liked what he did during covid.

I can't right now because we had a woman who knew how to define a woman lead us into utter financial chaos, so jobs are thin on the ground.

You still cannot expect purity from anyone. I could pick holes at every leader in the world and the way they live their lives. I wouldn’t vote for a white supremacist, but we’ve got to be realistic about human beings. I’m more interested in policies, did Boris introduce racist policies? Did the tories introduce a homophobic policy? Or pass gay marriage? If you’ve ever been involved in any kind of social justice campaigning, you know you have to compromise and not expect to get everything you want.

Livelovebehappy · 22/10/2022 18:17

Absolutely don’t want a general election. You can sense Keir hysterically pushing for one, because he sees this as coming in through the back door, and possibly his best chance of getting into number 10, so he’s screaming from the roof tops for one. But I couldn’t stomach a labour government. He’s not bad himself, but the people he has around him are totally out of their depth, and just wouldn’t cut it if they came to power. It would be out of fat into the frying pan. For that reason, I would vote for Rishi, because there is a strong chance that if Boris got in, members of his party would resign in their droves, which might prompt no confidence, and then result in a GA. Keep Labour out at all costs is my preference here.

SleeplessInEngland · 22/10/2022 18:17

“Boris isn’t literally a serial killer, therefore he’s fine by me, an utter moron.”

If the boss knowingly hires a sex offender who goes on to abuse staff in the office then it is a problem if you work there.
Particularly if the boss lies about knowing about the sex offenders past.

This was the thing that actually meant Johnson had to resign.

He can't actually run a government because he is too dishonest. Government is just about the PM, they need a team around him.
More and more people couldn't work for Johnson in the conditions that he he created.

falllakes · 22/10/2022 18:19

Government isn't just about the PM.
I want an edit button!

Winning general election is the exact opposite of ‘coming in through the back door’.

How many affairs had Truss?

Blossomtoes · 22/10/2022 18:21

How would winning a GE be getting in through the back door @Livelovebehappy?

MichaelFabricantsWig · 22/10/2022 18:22

4 that are in the public domain @WhereIam - whether that's more or less than Boris 🤷🏼‍♀️

I'm sorry to break it to you, but this isn't a monastery or Utopia. This is life.

I’m sorry to break it to you but I’ve seen a half century of politicians and they used to be decent and honourable. And when they weren’t they were forced to resign. We need to get those standards back and stop thinking integrity is utopian.

I half agree. I'm over 60 and lived through a lot of politicians. The difference is social media and the constant bullying. Decent people don't want to be MPs now.

Morceaux · 22/10/2022 18:22

At any other time, I’d have ‘tactically’ said Boris. If he does return, the chaos continues and we likely have a general election within a matter of months.

However, the country’s position is so precarious right now that I actually think stability is needed, even if that means 2 more years of Tories. For the good of the country, it has to be Sunak.

Are you trying to prove my point now?

Viviennemary · 22/10/2022 18:22

I am team Boris. But I can see why many people are not. If he does get in all the jeers and taunts will be like water of a ducks back. He just wont care. In fact he will probably quite enjoy it.

WhereIam · 22/10/2022 18:22

In an ideal world, I would have a labour government. This is not an ideal world.

I actually saw a speech a few days ago by the ex-Laour leader. It was really interesting. I'll see if I can find it.

He was villified for everything that you are all now demanding.

falllakes · 22/10/2022 18:23

I'm not talking about affairs.
I'm talking about Johnson's inability to run the government.
Knowingly hiring an active sex offender for a senior government position was what caused him to have to resign.
He can't or won't actually successfully manage a team of people.
This is needed to be PM.

There were a lot more decent Tories not that long ago.

Boris expelled them.

This is a fascinating insight into boris-supporting nihilism.

"What manner of potato would you team with beef bourguignon?"
was the name of the thread I accidentally opened instead of this one as it was sitting directly below it.
Both too good to be Tory MPs.

In which case he wasn’t a decent politician with integrity. We had plenty back in the dark ages who were.
