AIBU?

Huge row with DH! Help me!!

Just had a big row with DH over cleaning the kitchen. I usually cook dinner, he cleans up after while I put our kids to bed. It’s a system that works well for us!
This evening I came downstairs and found him sweeping the kitchen surfaces with our dustpan and brush! 🤢 I asked him not to do this before so when I saw him doing it again this evening I got angry and asked why he couldn’t do it the normal way I.e use a cloth to sweep crumbs into hand or even on to floor and sweep after (which he’d be doing anyway!). He couldn’t see where I was coming from at all, and cannot understand what is wrong with his way. I think it’s disgusting even though he plans to wipe down the surfaces after with the kitchen cloth! He said he’s not cleaning up anymore if he’s not left to do it his way etc etc 🙄
AIBU?
Please help me to explain to him how gross this is? He won’t listen. We’re not actually speaking over this!!

Just buy a separate one for the work surfaces. Problem solved.

The germs! Makes me feel all twitchy reading.

I think if he’s going over with a kitchen cloth after that’s fine. Leave him to it.

If he’s wiping it with a cloth and some sort of soap/disinfectant after I really can’t see the problem.

Ok so its not what id do and i agree with you tbh. But its prob good for the immune system his way! However, id just ask him to grab a new dustpan specifically for that purpose next time hes out.

I certaknly wouldnt fall out with him kver it

Hi @DM1720’s husband!!! PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD educate yourself about cross contamination! Stop being revolting and clean your kitchen PROPERLY OR buy a special Dustpan and Brush set that is SPECIFICALLY for countertop use! You’re putting your wife and DC at risk of illness…. You’re transferring all those nasty germs from the bottom of your shoes/pets feet etc onto the countertops. Just listen to @DM1720 as she is 100% RIGHT!!

Don’t see the problem as long as he’s wiping down afterwards.

Different ways of doing things/standards here. As long as he wipes down the surfaces after with, eg an anti-bac spray, I could live with this. I could defo live with it rather than have him refuse to do the kitchen, which is what’s likely to happen if you are not careful..

Different people have different standards the difficulty is imposing yours on someone else
I tend to give things a wipe over bed I would prep food in them so whilst not kern I wouldn’t start a war over it

What's the problem if he's wiping down surfaces (with anti bac) after

Report

Before

Well he's being a bit childish about it, I mean it's used for the floor so it's not ideal so it's pretty obvious why you wouldn't want him to do it. Having said that it I'd just let him get him get on with it.
Or beat him to death with the dustpan Grin

Eh, I don't see it as much of an issue if he's using disinfectant after. Like I'd rather he didn't, if it was my DH, but I'd just resolve it by buying a second dustpan and brush. I certainly wouldn't have a huge row over it. What is it with people on this website and having blazing rows with their partners over completely trivial shit?

I think you’re being a bit ott sorry.

Imagine how many times he's done this without you seeing ?

You've all survived, so chill out and let him clean his way.

Do you ever eat out...😉

Depends if you bin the cloth afterwards or use it for washing the dishes... I wouldn’t want germs from the floor all over the cloth then transferred to the kitchen sink and all over any dishes washed up.

eeeewww.

That’s just grim.

Buy him a crumb pan and brush. This will solve the problem provided he doesn’t use it to sweep the floor

Nooooo, not the word grim.

I do that occasionally, then anti bac afterwards. The brush is better for large spillages of flour, sugar or breadcrumbs.

Hinch uses her mini hoover on her surfaces….. that she’s also used to do the bathrooms and loos! 🤮

I'd buy him a second dust pan and brush. And then give him a hug. There are far too many shit things in life to fall out over this.

Jubaju · 11/10/2022 20:27

Also…: how crumby are your surfaces he’d need to use a dustpan and brush ?!

This is exactly my thinking on it! I use that cloth the next day and it’s just not clean if he’s used it to clean the surfaces after using the floor brush on them!
