What weird smells do you like?

Lighthearted!

what weird or unusual smells do you really like?!

I love petrol (not unusual I know but still!) and absolutely adore the smell of teabags. Not fruit or herbal tea, just typical breakfast teabags. I absolutely love them and when I was a child I used to sit with them at my nose and smell them so much (then when I blew my nose it was black and I thought it was hilarious) but even as an adult I adore the smell. I don’t really like the smell of tea, it’s just the teabags!

so, what unusual smells do you like?!

@CandyLeBonBon

Creosote, hoof oil, swarfega, petrichor - I think we had the same childhood

AllThatAndMore · 11/10/2022 22:57

My cats breath 😆 I love when she yawns in my face !

Puxatawney · 11/10/2022 23:22

Everyone who has said breastfed baby poo (pre-weaning) - thought this was just me! I also find the smell of my five month old’s milk-dribbled neck oddly pleasing. Like when he needs a bath 😳 must be a weird biological thing about identifying the scent of your cub!

I second the smell of the underground, as someone who is from rural NI it smells like a city break to me!

WhiskeyMakesMeFrisky · 11/10/2022 23:28

My dogs head. Literally bury my nose in his bony hairy little skull and I'm in heaven 🥰

itsnotmeitsu · 11/10/2022 23:29

@ErrolTheDragon > Sorry to hear you've lost your old boy. Our current one is 11-and-a-half. His paws don't really smell. But we had a greyhound with biscuity paws and another one with honey-smelling ears. The biscuity one was put to sleep at the vets (he could no longer absorb protein and he was around 13 [rescue]. The last thing I did was smell his paw 😪

merrymerrymonthofmay · 11/10/2022 23:32

Probably not weird at all but petrol, nail polish and oh my god furnisher polish. I could eat that.

MrsHughesPinny · 11/10/2022 23:49

Germolene
Wild oregano, basalt dust and salt (if you’ve been to Cyprus you know! Reminds me of being a kid.)
Pipe smoke
Secondhand book shops
Charcoal

ThreeblackCats · 11/10/2022 23:55

My elderly cat has no teeth but she has bad breathe, I love the smell of her breathe. I can smell her when she’s close to me and grooming.
when I was a small child, I loved the smell of the underground. As the tube arrived it pushed that stale smell through. It’s totally different now nobody smokes down there.

bridgetreilly · 12/10/2022 01:24

Cow muck. It just reminds me of my dad when I was a child.

tobee · 12/10/2022 01:38

Reading some of these and baby poop? Do you think it's only our own baby's poop or any baby's?

Soubriquet · 12/10/2022 03:13

Only your own I think

I’ve never smelled an EBF nappy that’s not from my own baby so I can’t answer that

edenhills · 12/10/2022 07:51

Tom cats and party poppers

DriveMeCrazy1974 · 12/10/2022 08:22

I love the smell of fences that have had creosote used on them. Especially when it's a hot day and you can smell it. Not sure why, but I just love it!

BamBamBilla · 12/10/2022 09:21

Swarfega
Damp caves
Sheep
Bonfires
Cannabis
Halfords
London Underground

Fuuuuuckit · 12/10/2022 09:34

Dettol. Reminds me of being looked after if I'd scraped my knee asa kid.

Greenhouses with the damp compost smell.

Underground - London and Paris smell the same.

Underground or milt-storey car parks, especially in hot weather

The smell of hot metal when someone is soldering (reminds me of my mum)

Sewing machine oil (reminds me of my grandparents)

Creosote, although you can't get the good stuff any more. Found some in the back of my mum's garage recently, wow...

Doingtheboxerbeat · 12/10/2022 09:37

I bought a petrol candle 😬😳 that I would never actually use, but it satisfied my weird AF obsession without the nasty toxins.

serin · 12/10/2022 09:39

Cows, cow muck, cow sheds, cow wee.
Grew up on grannies farm.

bridgetreilly · 12/10/2022 10:07

Baking bread is not a weird smell to like! It’s literally so common they use it as a sales technique.

Daleksatemyshed · 12/10/2022 10:14

Sadly it's a smell that's very rare now but I loved the smell of burning parrafin.

GimmeSleep · 12/10/2022 10:17

No idea if you can still get it but in the 90s my dad had this paste he'd put on the car exhaust if it had a slight hole in it, loved the smell of it and if I think really hard about it I can still smell it.

TockClicking · 12/10/2022 11:28

Ok so this is incredibly weird but I loved the smell of my body after I had given birth. Must be some cave woman type thing. Wasn't just one smell but the lochia and the smell of the baby and some weird mix of all that was something else😳

Blaise19 · 12/10/2022 17:56

I kept fancy rats for years and I'm actually a vicar! Sadly I'm allergic to them now, but I remember the lovely smell of a boy rat :-)

Blaise19 · 12/10/2022 17:57

The above referenced an earlier post but the quote didn't work!
