Lighthearted!

what weird or unusual smells do you really like?!

I love petrol (not unusual I know but still!) and absolutely adore the smell of teabags. Not fruit or herbal tea, just typical breakfast teabags. I absolutely love them and when I was a child I used to sit with them at my nose and smell them so much (then when I blew my nose it was black and I thought it was hilarious) but even as an adult I adore the smell. I don’t really like the smell of tea, it’s just the teabags!

so, what unusual smells do you like?!

My dm use to put her geranium pots in my bedroom when I was living at home and I hated the smell. Now I love it

Nostalgia and smell has a strong link

tobee · 11/10/2022 20:44

I always think there's a strong smell similarity between armpits and ground cumin

Rolling tobacco. I remember when I was a kid, opening my Dad's tobacco tin to have a smell. Cigarettes smell vile but rolling tobacco is heavenly!

My great aunt was a smoker and my great uncle grew tomatoes. He wore the same padded gilet all the time. My great aunt passed away when I was 9 and then my uncle passed away when I was 12.
I had a dream a few months ago and it was so strange because I was as I am now at 34 but I walked up to their house and my uncle answered the door, he greeted me with a hug and was wearing the gilet. The smell of vine ripened tomatoes with an undertone of cigarette smoke enveloped me in his hug. We sat in the lounge and he poured tea out of the teapot that was always used in their house. We talked about the past and he asked about my children by name. He showed me his greenhouse and how the tomatoes were almost ripe and we picked pears off the trees he had on the garden. As the visit ended we said our goodbyes and hugged. He said “I’ll see you again soon”. I woke up with the smell of cigarette smoke and vine ripe tomatoes in my nostrils it was so strange.

Coffee(even though I don't drink it) petrol and bleach

Margo34 · 11/10/2022 22:33

Silicone Sealant!

CantSayNothing · 11/10/2022 22:36

Proper old fashioned (and I imagine incredibly toxic!) Creosote. Modern fence stain isn't a patch on it. That and cut grass is a proper childhood smell for me, takes me right back to sitting making nests over the field with the clippings and rolling down the hill

TockClicking · 11/10/2022 22:45

Cow poo! I know most people hate it but I spent a lot of time on family farms as a child!

feathers7 · 11/10/2022 22:47

The smell of milk on the boil.

Saw creosote above, I also love the smell of creosote!!
