Anyone seen this? It’s apparently based on a policy from (far right) Hungary where the media were saying that too many women were going to university and thus wouldn’t be having kids!

Sounds like a great idea. What’s the issue?

Upthebracket22 · 09/10/2022 18:09

Yea, wimmin just exist for the purposes of breeding don’t they…

missbipolar · 09/10/2022 18:13

Tbf I don't necessarily think it's a terrible idea in itself but I'll probably get flamed for that

No, but many women are punished via the benefit system for having more than two children. Others can't afford one child. We can't and shouldn't just rely on immigration. A natural growth in the population is better for society. It's a ploy to deny that a lot of Tory plans rely on immigration and really poor people not breeding.

miceonabranch · 09/10/2022 18:17

Presumably it's Hump For Hungary over there 😄

Women aren't domestic animals to be used for re populating a country though.

iklboo · 09/10/2022 18:18

Hungary are also recruiting people to 'hunt for immigrants'.

Avrenim · 09/10/2022 18:18

Isn't this how the Handmaid's Tale started....? Along with a rampant nutjob rightwing extremist government regime???

Laiste · 09/10/2022 18:22

''The wacky policy already exists in Hungary, where women with four or more children do not have to pay income tax for the rest of their life.''

Even The Sun says it's wacky!

Four or more!! And how the hell do you manage until you get to that magic number of 4? And won't 4 kids for 18 years each cost more than your income tax?

FatKyle · 09/10/2022 18:23

No tax. I'd be in. I always wanted a big family. I just couldn't afford it. People that don't want to do it don't have to.

This historical precedent might suggest an issue

Nazi Policy on child bearing

You’re aware it’s not compulsory, yes?

Upthebracket22 · 09/10/2022 18:26

“This historical precedent might suggest an issue

Exactly @LizzieVereker

OP posts:
Upthebracket22 · 09/10/2022 18:29

“You’re aware it’s not compulsory, yes?”

but @YellowTreeHouse its the whole rhetoric isn’t it- ‘pay women to breed more so that we don’t have to rely on those pesky immigrants’

It’s disgusting on multiple levels and yes, reeks of the Handmaids tale too

OP posts:
YellowAndGreenToBeSeen · 09/10/2022 18:29

Jesus fucking Christ. Words fail at both the concept and those thinking it’s a good idea.

If this becomes anywhere near a policy, I’ll be taking up arms.

Theeyeballsinthesky · 09/10/2022 18:31

What happens if you’re a woman who can’t have children?

do you become a second class woman? Less valuable to the fatherland because you can’t procreate?

Upthebracket22 · 09/10/2022 18:31

It also makes me think of Afghanistan where children and women aren’t allowed an education or to work and just exist for the purposes of breeding for men 🤮

OP posts:
Upthebracket22 · 09/10/2022 18:32

@Theeyeballsinthesky yes, quite, terrifying. And to all those not able to see why it’s so grim, it’s the start of a road to less womens rights - a road you could argue we are already on

OP posts:
Exasperatednow · 09/10/2022 18:32

Sigh.

Yes, you might want a big family but if you can't see the precedent that this sets for society as a whole then I weep for your children, particularly the girls.

This is an awful idea.

What could be done that would be helpful is to have a proper strategy to support the childcare sector like Germany.

Theimpossiblegirl · 09/10/2022 18:40

Blessed be the fruit...

UnaOfStormhold · 09/10/2022 18:41

Cheaper, more flexible childcare and Scandinavian style shared parental leave would be a great place to start.

Shirty48 · 09/10/2022 18:43

Utterly terrifying. Can’t believe pp who think this is a good idea. The world has become a scary place.

YellowTreeHouse · 09/10/2022 18:43

Lots of hysterical dramatics and catastrophising going on here.

Upthebracket22 · 09/10/2022 18:44

It’s happening in the US too

That’s what I’d be thinking too. Have enough kids to warrant the reopening of our village school and restarting kids clubs and mums groups. I’m sold!
