Anyone seen this? It’s apparently based on a policy from (far right) Hungary where the media were saying that too many women were going to university and thus wouldn’t be having kids!

It’s an a ritual Nazi policy. It couldn’t be further from not terrible. Especially next to everything else they are up to.

Pretty much every other country has some sort of tax break for children.
It is not actually some obscure right wing policy despite what most people are trying to claim. It’s quite a mainstream policy globally.

LastnightIdreamtofsomebagels · 09/10/2022 19:08

Women sleepwalking into losing their rights. Now, where have I heard that before?

YellowTreeHouse · 09/10/2022 18:43

Lots of hysterical dramatics and catastrophising going on here.

Ah, hysterical. Those silly emotional womens, no logic. All guided by their womb. Misogynist.

Cuppasoupmonster · 09/10/2022 19:04

How what starts? We need more babies, they’re going to incentivise having babies. I fail to see the issue. It’s a choice and if you don’t want to do it, you’ll be no worse off than you are now. I would be 101% again penalising women for not having children but this isn’t it.

The world doesn't actually need more babies. The UK might need more young workers but that is an entirely different thing.

There's another way to do that.

Upthebracket22 · 09/10/2022 19:10

“Why is it misogynistic?’

“Misogyny - reflecting or exhibiting ingrained and institutionalized prejudice against women; sexist”

In other words- treating women like their only purpose on earth is to ‘breed’ for men as I have already said. As someone else said ‘welcome to the republic of gilead’

So women who can’t have kids will end up paying more tax than those who can. Great.

We don’t need more babies. The world is overpopulated. And the same people advocating for this say we can’t take refugees because we are full.

HairyMcLarie · 09/10/2022 19:12

We need less humans not more. FFS

Useful way to divide and conquer.

RockyOfTheRovers · 09/10/2022 19:13

It’s insidious that they’re talking about this as an income tax cut for the women. That’s very selective about which women they want to breed. Only women who continue to work and who earn above the income tax threshold would benefit.
Meanwhile, the two child cap on universal credit claims makes it pretty clear that those are not the right kind of babies to be having.

cardibach · 09/10/2022 19:14

Cuppasoupmonster · 09/10/2022 19:06

Oh come on. Because they’re going to give tax breaks to people with kids, we’re morphing into Nazi Germany?!

There are many policies which suggest we are becoming a fascist state. This just happens to be more obvious as an actual Nazi policy.

FatKyle · 09/10/2022 19:15

Cuppasoupmonster · 09/10/2022 19:05

It does support families because it gives them the extra cash towards their living expenses.

Yes, this. If people don't want to then they don't actually have to. But if women want to stay at home and have more children, and theres a tax incentive to do so, then why shouldn't they.

Tomatowentsplat · 09/10/2022 19:15

This is mental. My town is over populated, serious housing crisis, serious shortage on public services such as gp's, hospital referrals etc there is only one high school which is over subscribed some kids are forced to travel miles and be isolated from friends to get their education.
There isn't currently planning for more gp surgerys, hospitals, schools there is a few more houses being thrown up but aren't affordable and will add to the stress of the above.
A baby boom will cripple my town....more

Florenz · 09/10/2022 19:18

It'd be a better idea to pay women NOT to have kids.

FatKyle · 09/10/2022 19:23

Surely kids are required to boost the economy and look after the ageing population.

PicaNewName · 09/10/2022 19:24

The world is already overpopulated.

PicaNewName · 09/10/2022 19:25

Theeyeballsinthesky · 09/10/2022 18:31

What happens if you’re a woman who can’t have children?

do you become a second class woman? Less valuable to the fatherland because you can’t procreate?

I tell you what: you pay a shitload of tax to support the others.

RafaistheKingofClay · 09/10/2022 19:26

Cuppasoupmonster · 09/10/2022 19:05

It does support families because it gives them the extra cash towards their living expenses.

Well it might give them extra cash, but in the middle of a cost of living crisis, with benefits (as far as I’m aware) still capped at 2 children and the UK’s extortionate childcare costs will it give them enough?

And that’s before you even think about the fact that while cutting taxes you’re going to need to increase funding for schools and healthcare services. Not make cuts like the government are trying to do now.

It’s not a terrible idea to deal with the problem of an aging population in the long term (as long as it’s aimed at households not ‘women’). But I think there are probably better ways to make families feel financially secure enough to consider having another child than tax cuts.

PicaNewName · 09/10/2022 19:29

There's plenty of migration into the UK, I doubt the population is reducing.

VladmirsPoutine · 09/10/2022 19:29

Europe has an ageing population and declining birth rate. They're basically scared that not enough white people are having kids and there'll be too much reliance on immigrants. This has been around for a while now but I think it's becoming easier to just say the quiet part out loud. They need more white babies but white women for all manner of structural issues just aren't popping them out.

Chattycathydoll · 09/10/2022 19:30

FatKyle · 09/10/2022 19:15

No. It doesn’t. It doesn’t support families. It supports a specific type of mother who earns above the income threshold (so limited anyway) into giving birth more times.

It doesn’t give support. Support would be better funded family services. Such as the childrens centre I went to with my DD that gave us immeasurable emotional support especially given I had no other family around me. Support would be better incentives for fathers to step up and get involved with their children; better paternity. And improved assistance for those single mothers (because it is generally mothers) via CMS when the other parent tries to skive paying their way.

Oh. And better funding for schools and nhs and meal schemes so these kids we so badly need actually get fed.

All of those things would support families. This just bribes women into giving birth.

Upthebracket22 · 09/10/2022 19:31

Apart from the obvious mysogyny, what’s also behind it is the stopping people ‘coming over here’ and reducing immigration which in itself is a shit racist insular policy

OP posts:
Cuppasoupmonster · 09/10/2022 19:32

Misogyny 😂 take the day off, it might seem an unusual policy but misogyny it ain’t.

You’re all devaluing the word by using it as an ‘argument’ for virtually anything you disagree with.

Do you think British people should cut down on reproducing then to make space for those who want to come and live in the UK?

Upthebracket22 · 09/10/2022 19:34

@Cuppasoupmonster of course it’s bloody mysogyny.

I refer you back to the definition “reflecting or exhibiting ingrained and institutionalized prejudice against women; sexist”

In this case ‘wimmin are for breeding’
