To call my baby (DD) ‘Ocean’

I’m pregnant. DH has said he “can’t think” of any names for DD. I’ve thought of a few and really like ‘Ocean’ but DH is saying it’s an “embarrassing” name but he hasn’t suggest any names himself for DD

Unsure tbh. I think I prefer STORM. Smile

Notanotherwindow · 03/10/2022 18:46

It's awful, sorry. It's not even a name, its a word.

RampantIvy · 03/10/2022 18:46

Colour Scene

Jaxhog · 03/10/2022 18:46

Why not? I have a very small relative called 'River'.

Doidontimmm · 03/10/2022 18:46

Try to imagine introducing yourself as an adult as Ocean. It’s cruel to a child & ridiculous and embarrassing for an adult!

BongoJim · 03/10/2022 18:46

Please, no. It was no classier when the main man of East 17 did it.

Hankunamatata · 03/10/2022 18:46

My bonnie lies over the ocean....

RubyWho · 03/10/2022 18:46

Congratulations, OP! Call your baby what you like :)

(I wanted to call DD ‘Teal’, so I’m all for slightly odd names and may be biased)

vodkaredbullgirl · 03/10/2022 18:46

cooking up a storm are you lol

HairyMothballs · 03/10/2022 18:47

Unless you are one of the Kardashians, don't,

Sunnyqueen · 03/10/2022 18:47

Unless your are a kardashian probably not. It's nice in a way but too out there I think.

YABU not posting this is in the baby name section. You’re not unreasonable to choose a name you like for you child. That’s what most people do.

I don’t think it’s cruel. DD could always change it when she’s older if she doesn’t like it

I love it, but I must admit my choice of names is rather “out there”.

I like Summer

TwoWeeksislong · 03/10/2022 18:49

There’s lots of ‘Océans’ in France. If your DH hates it you need to keep thinking though. Have you seen those websites/apps where you both separately tick all the names you like on a big list and then the app shows you which ones you both chose?

PeekAtYou · 03/10/2022 18:50

There was a boy in my son's class called Ocean. Considering how words like Bear, Willow and Magnolia have become names, I don't think it's that weird.
If my DD's name was up to me I would have gone for a nature name like Willow.

I’ve already tried to get DH to use an app like this and he said no

I don't sea anything wrong with it.

Noviembre · 03/10/2022 18:51

Come up with a list of proper names or people will simply judge her for having dull parents who thought they were naming a pet.

If your husband has no suggestions then he doesn't get a say. Easy.

I sea what you did with that.

Same here. When people shout 'hey OCEAN' across the street, she can wave at them.

TheHoover · 03/10/2022 18:53

Call your baby what you like and don’t ask mumsnet
