I’m pregnant. DH has said he “can’t think” of any names for DD. I’ve thought of a few and really like ‘Ocean’ but DH is saying it’s an “embarrassing” name but he hasn’t suggest any names himself for DD

Before births are registered, the registrar should make people go to the nearest window and shout out "NAME OF CHILD, come in for your tea" or something along those lines.

Yes! I definitely think there's wisdom in the standard MN suggestion to start introducing yourself to new people you meet by the name you want to call your child.

Some of the truly outlandish names that you see parents wanting to inflict on their kids on here, that you know they'd never countenance putting up with themselves - like a baby is a fun little pet and not an actual person who will have to go through their whole life with that ridiculous name. One OP's DH wanted to call their DS Vercingetorix!!

If anyone in the relationship is uncomfortable with a name for your baby than it is not the right name for your baby... I don't understand why this need to be said to someone... It is not your baby it is is his baby as well you need to compromise and that does not mean that he needs to give an alternative. If one of you is not comfortable with a name you need to say it. No need for an alternative, not comfortable means no...

It's always better to give an original name to your child, Ocean is not bad at all. The things is to take into consideration if the first name will suit with the last name also. I know of two girls that were named after a Hindi deity which was fine, but their last name was so "local" that the end result was weird.
In any case it would be better than giving your child a "title" like Baron, Duke, Prince, Princess, Major, etc... and certainly better than giving your child a usual name but spelled in a horrible way, like: Jasmine but spelled Jezmeen, or Jessica but spelled Djezika, things like that.
Also avoid names that look like a prototype of a car or plane I.E. Musk's...
Besides I remember a Hawaiian scientist that had Ocean as a first name. As her job was involving marine life, it couldn't have been better suited.
