AIBU?

To wash pyjamas after each wear?

I wash my pyjamas after every wear, however this leads to LOADS of laundry every week… I’m wondering if I can cut down by wearing my pjs longer? They don’t smell but I’m not sure if this would be gross through, like I don’t wear knickers under them … So is it the same territory as rewearing dirty pants??🤔

How often do you wash your pyjamas? Like what is the normal pyjama etiquette? Would I be a complete tramp to put back on my dirty pjs?

Am I being unreasonable?

Yes, I wash them every day, but I can see how this could lead to a lot of laundry if the family is large. How about wearing knickers underneath ?

I wear mine for a few days. I have a bath before bed every night, so they only ever go on clean. Can't imagine how much washing we'd have if we all had clean ones every night...

I do wear knickers with pyjamas so wash pyjamas once a week (when the sheets are changed). Every day seems excessive unless you have a medical condition of some sort

I'd be really uncomfortable sleeping in pjs with no knickers myself. I don't know why but I have to wear pants to bed 😆 would cut down on your washing too.

Wearing just pj bottoms is the same as wearing knickers, so yes you need to wash them after every wear.
I got fed up of the volume of laundry so now wear a pj top and just knickers to bed. I’m not having to wash 7 pairs of pj bottoms a week and am just as warm under the duvet.

Knickers to bed? My mum always told me you needed to air your bits, so that's what I do. No washing involved here 😅

Surely it depends on how much they smell?

I shower before bed and I wear underwear. I wear my pjs until they’re dirty, a good few days. Same with my kids. Can’t imagine not wearing underwear!

I always wear pants. Don't get the airing thing, a pair of cotton pants isn't going to make much difference when I'm already wearing much thicker warm pj bottoms.

I can’t wear underwear in bed, hate it. I wear pjs for a week and wash. They don’t smell it’s only me and dh who see them. Same with children’s… I couldn’t be doing with the increased washing and now associated cost!

Are you me? I stopped though took me ages I couldn't get comfortable. I stopped though as I had thrush and didn't even realise for years! I felt a right tit!

Unless you’re really filthy, this is wholly unnecessary and woefully bad for the environment.

These two posts coming one after each other made me chortle. I assume @StrictlyAFemaleFemale is referring to how much the pyjama bottoms smell, and not how much @lovemelongtime's genitals smell 😅

I think you do have to wash them if you don't wear knickers underneath.

I just wear knickers to bed and only wear pyjamas/loungewear in the evening or first thing in the morning.

I wash mine ever 2 wears but they are quite loose so not quite the same as close fitting knickers

I wear clean PJs every night. I'm a slattern in every other way but fresh PJs every night is my one laundry luxury.

This. People really don't think. Unless you have a medical condition that makes you shed loads of skin or sweat to excess, or have got other bodily fluids on them, there is absolutely no need to wash pyjamas after every wear.

Unless you have a condition that makes you smell then there’s no need to wash them everyday.

If you do smell then perhaps wear underwear instead so you can put all of the underwear in the wash at the same time.

Your electricity bill must be through the roof.

Mumsnet = I only wear anything once before washing, change sheets weekly and wash my towels daily! Everything else is disgusting

Also mumsnet = my bills are skyrocketing, the environment is going to pot and I have too much washing and never get a break.

OP I wear my pyjamas for a week unless they get dirty and need it before then or there's a change in temperature so want different ones.
