Bedtime perfume … it’s a thing right?

So in conversation with a friend I told her I was nearly out of bedtime perfume. And she looks at me like I have two heads 🤔

so basically I have an expensive perfume I wear in the day, and a cheaper Avon one to wear to bed. My reasoning is I like to smell good for my boyfriend when I get into bed, so I shower, apply my face creams, body lotion, and then a quick spritz of bedtime perfume. So tell me I’m not crazy here? Bedtime perfume is totally a thing right?

Note - this friend thinks bedtime perfume is crazy, but thinks it’s totally normal her dad has never seen her mum without a full face of makeup ( they have been married 30+ years and I’m convinced her mum is actually a stepford wife 🤣)

“My reasoning is I like to smell good for my boyfriend when I get into bed”

I find that really sad. What exactly do you think is wrong with how your clean body smells? The sexiest thing would be pheromones anyway, that you’re obliterating. I find it really said that you’ve been brainwashed by marketing into thinking this is a good thing.

Sparkletastic · 23/09/2022 15:09

Wearing a scent to bed is absolutely a thing but not for the benefit of one's bedfellow.

heartbroken22 · 23/09/2022 15:15

Does he have bedtime fragrance too? Or does he go natural?

I'm going to try it tonight, DH will love the change from fart smells.

🤣 I’m sure he will appreciate that

I spray a bit at the back of my neck before bed.

MeInCoventry · 23/09/2022 18:09

I'm puzzled… Why do you use the nice stuff in the daytime and keep the cheap stuff for bed? Wouldn't you want to do the opposite?
(And in case you can't tell, no this is not a thing for me!)

The cheaper perfume still smells nice but it’s not as strong smelling, so I find it perfect for bedtime perfume. It’s not overwhelmingly strong and it’s affordable.

The expensive perfume is stronger smelling and lasts throughout the day whereas the cheaper one would wear off after a few hours.

Of course it's a thing!!

Pava22 · 23/09/2022 20:43

Simply put.... For sex, yes. If no sex, then no.

JulieMarooley · 23/09/2022 21:29

I know we’re all breathing in loads of detergent and plastics constantly, but still the thought of adding perfume into the mix as well, 24/7, makes me feel ill.

LT2 · 23/09/2022 21:33

Never known anyone who does that (unless they've just never said).

MatterOfThyme · 23/09/2022 21:34

Er...no. But then nor do I bother with tons of creams etc. Over a decade married, DH gets what he gets!

Mojitoo · 23/09/2022 21:42

I use a little aromatherapy body lotion with lavender oil before bed, because I find it soothing and sleepy.

I like perfume and have a nice collection, but I'd never spray perfume on to go to bed. I like fresh air and clean, natural smells at bedtime. I'd find even the lightest perfume cloying and too much.

That said, I loathe scent on men. Thankfully, DH has no desire to wear any. As much as I like perfume, simply the smell of clean bodies, clean sheets and fresh air at bedtime is far, far nicer.

Liz1tummypain · 23/09/2022 21:59

never heard of it til now

Noviembre · 23/09/2022 22:01

Yuk! I'd be choking on a stuffy cloud, I loathe the stuff. Seems very 70s.

Mojitoo · 23/09/2022 22:14

Agree actually. Or 80s. It sounds a bit Joan Collins tbh.

Reading this thtread I'm reminded of a boyfriend I had in my youth who said he had a 'surprise' for me in the bedroom... he was wearing a thong and had liberally doused his balls with Old Spice. 😆
The smell almost knocked my head off!

Chloefairydust · 24/09/2022 16:11

That sounds like quite a surprise 🤔🤣

I don't think it had the desired effect as he never did it again! Thank god! Either that or he used up the whole bottle in one go!! 🤣

It’s not a thing and I’m not sure it’s healthy. My doctor advised I stopped wearing perfume and some other products after developing a thyroid issue - products are full of chemicals and these chemicals are really not good for your thyroid (at the very least. Some of them are generally harmful depending on what’s in them). Having no period of time when your skin isn’t covered in chemicals isn’t very healthy.

FrangipaniBlue · 28/09/2022 06:16

It seems I have found the people from my local pool who make me choke on their fumes.

There are some situations where perfume is NOT required, in fact I'd even say it's antisocial..... before bed and before swimming are 2 such situations.

MissBattleaxe · 28/09/2022 18:06

"Some of them are generally harmful depending on what’s in them"

Perfumes sold within the UK and the EU are not harmful unless you drink them. They are subject to super strict safety regulations and take no prisoners. Chemicals are not villains.

Would perfume not wash off in a swimming pool anyway?

I can’t see the point of applying perfume before swimming to be fair …

It’s a thing ☺️ I have a scent for the day and a different one for bed time. I use lotion and perfume when I get out of the shower before bed.
