Bedtime perfume … it’s a thing right?

Chloefairydust · 23/09/2022 03:31

So in conversation with a friend I told her I was nearly out of bedtime perfume. And she looks at me like I have two heads 🤔

so basically I have an expensive perfume I wear in the day, and a cheaper Avon one to wear to bed. My reasoning is I like to smell good for my boyfriend when I get into bed, so I shower, apply my face creams, body lotion, and then a quick spritz of bedtime perfume. So tell me I’m not crazy here? Bedtime perfume is totally a thing right?

Note - this friend thinks bedtime perfume is crazy, but thinks it’s totally normal her dad has never seen her mum without a full face of makeup ( they have been married 30+ years and I’m convinced her mum is actually a stepford wife 🤣)

@Chloefairydust what's the cheap perfume and what is the expensive daytime one ?
I like perfume. Though Pomegranates Noir and Angel make me heave.

AloysiusBear · 23/09/2022 09:17

I don't wear perfume at all so its definitely not a thing for me!

I always thought perfume was invented when people washed bodies & clothes far less, to basically cover bad smells.... it doesnt seem all that necessary when we are all clean.

EugeneLevysEyebrow · 23/09/2022 09:20

OP do you work in the marketing department of Chanel or something?

“So guys how can we sell more perfume to people?
I’ve got an idea - maybe we can convince them that putting on perfume at bedtime is a good idea!”

I quite like perfumes and wear one most days but the thought of perfume at bedtime just gives me a headache.

PeloFondo · 23/09/2022 09:21

I wear it at bedtime. Usually just a soft vanilla type or clean soapy one

GooglyEyeballs · 23/09/2022 09:25

It's a thing for me!

orangeisthenewpuce · 23/09/2022 09:27

Are you from the 1950's OP?

Icanstillrecallourlastsummer · 23/09/2022 09:28

My friend does it. She also wears sexy PJs every single night without fail 10+ years into her relationship.

I couldn't do it, the thought of it alone gives me a migrane. It's not good for you to be surrounded by artificial smells all the time.

YABU for sexy time.

Do you also have a special separate sink for washing your face? (This is giving me the same vibes as that thread from last week 😝).

That sounds interesting.
Link, please?

100 years of feminism and this is what we get...

TwinklyBranch · 23/09/2022 09:29

That's disgusting, who wants to go to bed smelling of a chemical fragrance? I hate perfume.

Moltenpink · 23/09/2022 09:36

ManateeFair · 23/09/2022 09:05

I don’t think a lot of people do it, but I put a really light, cooling unisex cologne on before I get into bed. It’s not for my boyfriend - he has no sense of smell so these things make no difference to him. I just like it - I find it relaxing and slightly luxurious, like a little treat.

During the day I always wear perfume. I have about 15 different ones.

I’m always hugely amused at how furious Mumsnet gets about perfume. I always wonder if the “perfume is lung-rotting poison and I need a week in a sanatorium to recover if someone walks past me wearing a spritz of Jo Malone” people are the same ones who think a midweek glass of wine makes you an alcoholic.

No, I hate perfume but drink wine by the bucket Grin

legophoenix · 23/09/2022 09:38

Barely manage to brush my teeth before falling into bed exhausted so definitely not a thing for me...

I'm guessing OP doesn't have a a small child sneaking into bed with her every night.

inheritanceshiteagain · 23/09/2022 09:45

Not a thing I'm afraid. I'd hate to have a strong perfume smell. Irritate my nose anyway. Body lotion is enough

inheritanceshiteagain · 23/09/2022 09:46

Mind you an early boyfriend/girlfriend relationship may be more usual.

NerrSnerr · 23/09/2022 09:47

One of the ladies I used to care for when I first qualified as a nurse had a spray of perfume before bed because she used to say 'you'll never know who you'll meet in your dreams'.

gogohmm · 23/09/2022 09:52

Never heard of such a thing

Themadcatparade · 23/09/2022 09:52

I have an after shower perfume (I shower in the evenings).

I have also started to pop a quick spray of Replicas ‘bubble bath’ on my pillow and dressing gown at night as it’s a great source of invoking comfort in me and it makes me feel clean and warm from the smell.

there is a lot in certain smells triggering emotional responses!

peridito · 23/09/2022 09:53

nerrsnerr that'a lovely post ,she sounds sweet .
More to the point I was about to post something and your post made me change my mind .If someone who has to depend on a carer can be sweet tempered then the least I can do is say nothing if I can't say something nice .

mrsm43s · 23/09/2022 09:55

I put deodorant and a light spray of my perfume on after every shower or bath, whatever time it is.

I don't spray perfume at any other time.

I find that this way I have a light, barely discernible waft of scent about me at all times, rather than being unbearably drenched in perfume when leaving the house.

I use one scent, rather than mixing them up.

gogohmm · 23/09/2022 09:59

Though I'm mostly smiling at the whole bedtime routine - I crawl into bed exhausted, as do most people I expect, I shower in the morning to try to wake me up!

Costacoffeeplease · 23/09/2022 10:02

This is hilarious, perfume at bedtime signals sexy time 🤣

beachcitygirl · 23/09/2022 10:07

I wear perfume to bed & absolutely love it when dh gives himself a quick fresh spritz of his cologne

sashh · 23/09/2022 10:10

I'm another who wears perfume in bed.

Didn't Marilyn Munroe say the only thing she wore in bed was Chanel No 5

UniBallEye · 23/09/2022 10:17

I do sometimes but I don't have a special perfume for it. I have about 8 or 9 that I wear regularly & lots are cologne style scents & if I'm fresh out of the shower I'll often have a small spray.
I adore good perfume, its definitely one of my luxuries.
I also absolutely love the smell of my husbands aftershave. One of my favourite smells in the world is his smell at the end of the day when i can smell his skin with a faint background of his aftershave!

jojogoesbust · 23/09/2022 10:19

The things you read on MN. Lost me at bedtime perfume, then the fact it's avon. The shower will do
