Should I tip the pizza delivery person?

JamesBondOO7 · 22/09/2022 20:18

Tomorrow I'm ordering pizza from Dominos
I usually leave to our children but I'm doing this
I will be ordering approx 85 quids worth of food for
6 of us inc 2 toddlers. As we are paying online
and IMO the bill is lager than the usal 50-sh after discounts - I will feel bad not tipping the man/woman

A quid is not right but then I'm thinking why should I as I', pay 2 quid (1-99) in delivery and the employer should be paying a proper wage

It will be easier not to tip as paying online but I don't want the delivery person
giving me faces etc though that would make it easier for me later ie not giving a tip

What do you think but I'm almost a 100% cert I won't

(on the odd occasion we eat out we tip 10% but it does hurt.

Yes you should. They earn fuck all.

JMKid · 22/09/2022 20:20

I never tip delivery drivers, seems odd too.

Boxowine · 22/09/2022 20:20

Wtf is wrong with you?

MessyBunPersonified · 22/09/2022 20:21

I only tip if I pay cash.

I wouldn't tip in the circumstances you describe.

Glitteratitar · 22/09/2022 20:21

I agree that they should be paid a decent wage but the reality is they’re probably not. So if you can afford to spend £85 on pizza, you can probably afford a couple of extra pounds for a tip.

shivawn · 22/09/2022 20:21

I always do but it's optional of course.

Wifflywafflywoo · 22/09/2022 20:22

We always tip ours, local small business with just the one driver. We do him a Christmas card and gift too 🙈. I don't even want to think about how many pizzas he's delivered to me the past 15 years...

DillDanding · 22/09/2022 20:22

Absolutely tip. We have never not tipped a food delivery. We don't tip as much as in a restaurant, but I'd be giving them at least a fiver.

BeyondMyWits · 22/09/2022 20:24

We always tip pizza delivery. Usually 10% ish. Our order is usually £27ish, so £3 cash at the door.

HeddaGarbled · 22/09/2022 20:24

I’d give them a fiver.

Geepee71 · 22/09/2022 20:24

I ordered Domino's online recently and was asked not to tip driver with cash and instead to tip online, after delivery.

QueSyrahSyrah · 22/09/2022 20:25

We almost always tip £1 when we have delivery. £1.50 or £2 if they bring it right to our 3rd floor apartment (as opposed to the ground floor building lobby for us to go down and get).

For £85 worth I'd probably be tipping a fiver. Dominos send you an (optional) link to tip online after delivery.

I worked in hospitality for years and tips made all the difference both financially and to how appreciated I felt by customers. I'm just passing that on.

LikeTearsInRain · 22/09/2022 20:25

Have you used BOGOF/50%/40% offers because 85 quid should be getting you something like 6 large pizzas plus a bunch of sides. Seems like overkill for 2 toddlers + 4 adults/older children?

Blowyourowntrumpet · 22/09/2022 20:27

Don't be so mean

luxxlisbon · 22/09/2022 20:27

Missing the point but even at dominos £85 for 4 adults is crazy! They always have like 50% off £25/30+.

ByTheGrace · 22/09/2022 20:27

Dominos are now hassling you for tips, sending an email reminder, guilting you by naming the driver. I replied in feedback, that if you value your staff so much, then pay them a better wage. Dominos aren't cheap by any stretch, they now charge for delivery too.
I've never tipped delivery drivers and places I've worked didn't allow drivers (or anyone) to accept tips.
Really, why is everyone so keen to enable these big businesses to exploit their staff and us.

Ahf22 · 22/09/2022 20:27

Yep give them a fiver, if you can afford to spend 85 on domino’s pizza then that’s nothing really

Hollowtree3 · 22/09/2022 20:28

I tip Deliveroo and Uber eats regularly, 5%ish mostly but always if on a bike (I’m in a city) or super nice 10% every time. If I can afford a delivery then I factor that as they are not paid much.

OneTC · 22/09/2022 20:28

Yeah I tip.

Whether other people choose not to I don't care

Luredbyapomegranate · 22/09/2022 20:30

It’s a badly paid job and it’s tough - give them a tip woman!

pandy2 · 22/09/2022 20:31

If you can afford £85 on pizza then you must be extremely tight to balk at a £2 tip for the driver. This is a wind up surely?

ErinAoife · 22/09/2022 20:34

Don't tip since they usually charge for delivery for ordering, if they don't charge for delivery I tjl

QueSyrahSyrah · 22/09/2022 20:37

I know they vary by area but my dominos app currently has 50% off on online orders over £35.

Can't fathom how 4 adults and 2 toddlers would run up an £85 spend 😱

JamesBondOO7 · 22/09/2022 20:38

jetadore · 22/09/2022 20:19

Yes you should. They earn fuck all.

Then they should work somewhere else.
Who gets the 1-99 I'm paying for delivery?

I’m in awe at how you can spend £85 at Dominoes for 6, including 2 toddlers - what on earth is the order?!
