Apologies if there are other threads on this. How do we feel about it all? I don't particularly like a pile on but it seems like the tide has finally turned on these two. There was a time when everyone seemed to love them and their 'oh look we've turned up to a This Morning still pissed from an awards ceremony' was funny at the time. But I think it's gone to their heads and they've become more and more arrogant.

The queue jump situation for me was a clear sign of them thinking they are special, for want of a better phrase. Queuing showed dedication and respect but they just bypassed that. And the weak excuses since haven't helped at all. I see now Holly is consulting lawyers. It must be difficult for them to go on air knowing there's so much public bad feeling against them but I can't help but feel like they've had it coming for a while....

Anyone else?

I can't say I really feel strongly about it all to be honest!
Celebs often get special treatment it's no different

ExcaliburBaby · 22/09/2022 07:49

im not fans of theirs at all but this reaction/backlash is so OTT. Loads of people got to skip the queue - I don’t see anyone complaining that MPs like Jacob Rees Mogg got to skip the queue and take (some of) his kids. People need to get over it now

Wherehasthecommonsensegone · 22/09/2022 07:49

Did they just visit like the general public were doing or did they do film a segment there?

If they did a segment for This Morning then I don’t know what else people would expected them to do. If for a segment assuming there would also be camera people/crew etc. there too so why not pile on them too?

Imagine getting told you need to be somewhere for work, then getting bollocked by the public for going and doing your job. 🙄

DillonPanthersTexas · 22/09/2022 07:50

The queue jumping is just a red herring, I think it is a convenient minor infraction that has been been used to vent against the insufferably perma smug giggling self appointed king and queen of day time TV. Holly could probably survive this insofar as going on to other projects where I think people have had enough of 'Brave Phil' and his PR team.

BitOutOfPractice · 22/09/2022 07:51

There has been many other threads yes. I have no idea why these two are so fascinating!

ShirleyJackson · 22/09/2022 07:51

I don’t get what they’re supposed to have done wrong.

I don’t watch This Morning, so I’m out of the loop, but I do know about PS and his shenanigans. Is this pile-on just an excuse? An opportunity to get rid of them?

Ant McPartlin didn’t get all this shit for drunk driving!

Mindymomo · 22/09/2022 07:51

You are right, this is about the third post on this subject. I’ve never like Phil, Holly is Ok. My adult DS said it was ok for him to stay on tv after he groomed a 19 year old boy, then came out as gay, but for queue jumping he should be sacked. They are definitely not the golden couple any more.

sst1234 · 22/09/2022 07:52

On a related note, who still watches that drivel This morning anymore? Isn’t it about 20 years out of date?

Doingmybest12 · 22/09/2022 07:55

If people dislike these presenters so much why don't they turn off their TV or change channel. Ratings is what will make a difference to if they are on TV or not. A petition about it is ridiculous. Turn off your TV folks.

RoachTheHorse · 22/09/2022 07:56

I don't like them. So I don't watch them. Beyond that I don't much care.

choosername1234 · 22/09/2022 07:58

Would you queue for 12 hours to do your job? Thought not

Radyward · 22/09/2022 07:59

Firstly they arernt journalists
They usually dont work on a friday
No evidence of any tv segment from Their day at Westminstet hall save for a 2 minute i phone video.
The BS going there for the people who couldnt excuse is so weak
So no work evident from the lying in state.so whay were they doing there??i have no issue at all with MP s getting a pass as they are govt and security might be an issue in the queue.
Just be honest about it.
They are totally unwatchable on This Morning.all the elderly who queued-it really is 2 fingers to them.

KittenKong · 22/09/2022 08:00

The do a fluffy daytime tv show. Journalist privilege is really stretching it. I haven’t seen them reporting from the frontline in Ukraine…

Luredbyapomegranate · 22/09/2022 08:03

You are ridiculous.

They present a TV show. They got fast queue tickets so they could report on the experience for millions of viewers as part of their job.

I think they are dull as ditchwater and never watch it, but they did nothing wrong whatsoever.

Radyward · 22/09/2022 08:04

Thought it smacked of total disrespect to the ordinary joes queueing.what was with the mask ??? Botox ?? Whatever.
Talk about a fall from grace. This isint going away..what wll ITV do next???
Honesty is always the best policy
.either way it has damaged their credibility and brand

Agree with this, the backlash is awful. I don’t watch them and don’t have any strong feelings either way for them, but the vitriol is terrible.

there are reports of Holly being in tears and concerns about their welfare, whatever happened to be kind. This is the kind of behaviour that puts people over the edge. Maybe they did do wrong and made an error of judgement but is it really worth all this grief and petitions. If you feel strongly enough stop watching them in the mornings.

SarahSissions · 22/09/2022 08:05

I had no interest until the media storm and subsequent defences of them ITV PR have tried to put forwards as it’s a bit of a disaster and I do find badly handled problems interesting (as I suspect many do)

I think the “they were just doing their job” doesn’t really land-many other news outlets managed to do their jobs by reporting from the queue or interviewing members of the public.

what they should’ve done was apologise straight away and said they got it wrong. They have now put themselves in a position where any apology will seem false and contrived.

it is fascinating to see something handled so badly.

Checkmateready · 22/09/2022 08:06

The backlash they’ve got is ridiculous. People petitioning for them to lose their jobs is ridiculous. Even they will have bills that they need to work to pay.

David Beckham queued and some were saying it was a publicity stunt so it just goes to show that either way they can’t win.

Celebs are often given special treatment, whether it be a queue jump, hidden entrance, VIP tables or closed stores to shop with no one around.

The media have done a great job again of building people up and then knock them back down and it’s cruel.

Enough4me · 22/09/2022 08:07

Phil should have left when the cheating and grooming updates came out. He got away with it, was smug about it, and now the queue jumping is a way for people to push him out.

I think that yes this is an opportunity to get rid of them

People that were aware of the real reasons for his coming out were annoyed that he kind of got away with it because covid came along and so this is the excuse they have been waiting for. She is being tarred with the same brush for supporting him but don’t think she is the nations sweetheart she makes out to be. Stories of her being quite nasty to the crew as well as other rumours

All MPs got to jump the queue btw!

IceStationZebra · 22/09/2022 08:08

I’ve only heard about it on here tbh. Not coming up on any news sites I read & I can’t really see what all the fuss is about. Like loads of people they had jobs or commitments that meant they couldn’t hang around in a queue for days on end. If I’d have wanted to go and had the opportunity to skip queueing I absolutely would have done!

QueSyrahSyrah · 22/09/2022 08:13

Can't get worked up about them, but I think the claim afterwards that they were there as 'the press' to film a 'report' is clutching at straws for excuses a bit.

They're daytime TV presenters not journalists, and I don't understand the need for a This Morning section on the Queen lying in state that was to be broadcast the day AFTER the funeral.

We'd already had hundreds of hours of broadcast while it was happening, what new angle would Holly & Phil bring 2 days later? If it were being filmed and broadcast while it were still going on then fair enough maybe.

Lobelia123 · 22/09/2022 08:16

I didnt really care much about the did they / didnt they saga around the queue skipping until they started tantrumming and we now read reports about 'serious concern' over them following the backlash and Holly consulting lawyers etc....they are behaving like spoilt, entitled brats and its no wonder public opinion is swinging against them.
