I'll repeat what I said on another thread, but it's essentially the dishonesty which is really pissing people off.
If they'd just held their hands up and admitted that it was a bad idea, and that they thought it would be a nice idea for a feature but they can see that it was poorly thought out blah blah, I think people wouldn't really care that much.
It's the doubling down.
On one hand they're insisting that they didn't actually get to pay their respects to the queen lying in state, and only got taken to a media platform at the back which was nowhere near the coffin, and that they really truly didn't have the same experience as people who had queued up. That they were "filming" and worked "hard on the feature all weekend".
Then on the other hand you have the actual "feature" which involves footage from the main Westminster feed, not footage filmed inside by This Morning. Phil and Holly gushing down the camera afterwards about what a "profound" experience it was inside. But remember, they didn't actually have the experience even though on camera they described it as a profound experience...........slight contradiction or what?! But that's it. I've seen more in-depth "features" from members of the public who have been interviewed by a news crew after exiting the viewing.
So there wasn't any actual "feature". All of the footage could have been seen elsewhere. The only extra bit was Phil and Holly talking to the camera afterwards and agreeing that the experience (that they now say they didn't actually have) was "profound".
As for their claims that they were taken to a rear platform nowhere near the people viewing the coffin, also absolute bull shit. See attached. They walked right along the side - the media platform is right at the back.
I don't really care too much about them one way or the other but I despise dishonesty. And they're treating us as if we're stupid. They CLEARLY used their media passes to get in and experience the queen lying in state, and that was probably a bit thoughtless given the people queueing outside. They thought that gushing down the camera would somehow justify it - it doesn't. Especially as they're not normally roving reporters. It just feels like they used their press privilege and created a weak "feature" to justify it. They didn't offer anything that wasn't on a billion other channels, and they should just admit that it was thoughtless and a bad idea so we can all move on. As it stands, they just look like even more entitled, selfish dicks and that's because of what they said after, just as much as what they did!
