Apologies if there are other threads on this. How do we feel about it all? I don't particularly like a pile on but it seems like the tide has finally turned on these two. There was a time when everyone seemed to love them and their 'oh look we've turned up to a This Morning still pissed from an awards ceremony' was funny at the time. But I think it's gone to their heads and they've become more and more arrogant.

The queue jump situation for me was a clear sign of them thinking they are special, for want of a better phrase. Queuing showed dedication and respect but they just bypassed that. And the weak excuses since haven't helped at all. I see now Holly is consulting lawyers. It must be difficult for them to go on air knowing there's so much public bad feeling against them but I can't help but feel like they've had it coming for a while....

Anyone else?

I must admit I would be pissed off if I were then. They must have been advised/instructed to go in and now people are slating them personally I would expect some backup from my employer!

But having said that I think people have been going off them for a while and this is just another nail in the coffin

In regards to MPs getting in quicker, if they had queued we all probably would have slagged them off for not working..!

Everything went down hill after Phil came out the closet, bravely shaking the world of his wife and children… it wasn’t because he was facing accusations of inappropriate goings on with young men working on this morning… I think a lot of people are just a bit fed up of them, and this queue thing is just a catalyst for that

WimpoleHat · 22/09/2022 08:20

I don’t see anyone complaining that MPs like Jacob Rees Mogg got to skip the queue and take (some of) his kids.

Much as I loathe Rees Mogg, there is a difference. MPs were explicitly allowed into the VIP line with 4 guests. They’ve all sworn an oath to (and worked for, I suppose) the Queen. And JRM is on the Privy Council and will have met her on numerous occasions (let’s not go into the lying to her for this purpose, but he will have known her personally).

Holly and Phil? There for “professional purposes”? You’re having a laugh. Or it was a stunt (“let’s do a segment in poor taste”) which has backfired. Well - them’s the breaks in showbiz…..

Perpop · 22/09/2022 08:20

Another thread? Jesus

YesitsJacqueline · 22/09/2022 08:21

To be fair the fast track queue was in place and they were offered it so I don't see any big deal there.
However the inane giggling all the while Philip was cheating on his wife and the crocodile tears from the pair of them makes me feel glad the tide is turning on them

KangarooKenny · 22/09/2022 08:21

I can’t stand them anyway, so juvenile, and he’s a liar.

CatchYouOnTheFlippetyFlop · 22/09/2022 08:25

People are just sick of them and this gives them ammo.

I think they are the faces of the incestuous nature of ITV. It's not just This Morning. It's dancing on ice, celebrity juice, Philips quiz show. Can't remember what else they're on because I barely watch iTV. Phil and Holly, ant and Dec, Stephen mulhern, Keith lemon (urgh), they seem to have the monopoly on ITv shows and I think it's starting to grate.

Bunch of self satisfied, unfunny, smug twats. The lot of them.

He went down in my estimation for how his wife and children would have felt when he came out as gay.
Whole different ballgame if you're single.
I don't class it as brave when you've got other people you're affecting

Bretonbear · 22/09/2022 08:27

Maybe if they had just admitted they got it wrong and made a mistake then things would be better for them. I don't like the hostile pile on of abuse but I also don't like them as presenters either so choose not to watch programmes they are in. Be kind of refreshing if they just fronted it up, read the general mood and feedback from the people who do watch them and just said sorry.

im not fans of theirs at all but this reaction/backlash is so OTT. Loads of people got to skip the queue - I don’t see anyone complaining that MPs like Jacob Rees Mogg got to skip the queue and take (some of) his kids. People need to get over it now

Why pick on him? All MPs got to skip the queue and take, I think, four guests. I don’t really see why they should have been given that privilege at all by the way, but I don’t see the need to single out one of them. Also it was what it was and not the same situation as H &P.

With H and P, when I first saw clips of them, it looked like a private visit to me and I assumed they joined the queue like David Beckham did. It didn’t look like they were doing a news segment and seems like that was thrown together afterwards. So yes it does to me seem like they used their celebrity to jump the queue and I do think this was not the time to do that. I don’t watch This Morning, have no particular opinions on either of them, but if anything I would say I like more than dislike, but I think they did make an error of judgement here.

KittenKong · 22/09/2022 08:30

MPs not telly c’lebs.

red4321 · 22/09/2022 08:34

If they did a segment for This Morning then I don’t know what else people would expected them to do. If for a segment assuming there would also be camera people/crew etc. there too so why not pile on them too?

Apparently no camera crew present. And in any case, the next This Morning was on the Tuesday so after the funeral. That changed my opinion, along with the fact that they were filmed walking past the coffin, not staying on the press balcony.

Given some of the comments about Phil and Holly on the celebs you've worked with threads, I suspect some of the crew have been waiting a while for this opportunity.

Piffle11 · 22/09/2022 08:35

I don't like either of them, and I can't believe Phil kept his job after that stuff with that young man.

I don't really know why they were there in their 'professional' capacity… It's not like they could report from inside the hall.

So they basically were telling us how it felt… Just like every other member of the public who was interviewed by other TV stations and programmes. They didn't need to do it. They are both so egotistical it's as though they feel that we will gain comfort from them being there.

CarefulWithTheCabbages · 22/09/2022 08:39

I think you're spot on @red4321

Ohtsd · 22/09/2022 08:40

What did they actually report anyway apart from what everyone could see on the live feed, there wasn't anything in the background that could be of any interest at all and people were there paying their respects not to be interviewed, H and P should have been outside interviewing people instead, it was just an excuse to get entry.

Prescottdanni123 · 22/09/2022 08:41

Holly and Phillip were there to do a job that was asked of them by the producers of This Morning. It is not like they were there for personal reasons and snuck into the VIP queue with their entire families. Yes there were plenty of other programmes of channels making segments about it, but why should This Morning be the only one not to do it? Let's be honest, we only really needed BBC or ITV there but there were plenty of other crews taking part, not just Holly and Phillip.

Holly and Phillip were there for press reasons so they used the press queue, as they were entitled too. Whether or not you like the pair, the witch hunt that has been started over this non-issue is ridiculous.

mydogisthebest · 22/09/2022 08:42

I can't stand either of the silly giggling idiots and would be glad to see the back of them, not just on This Morning but on everything they do.

I just can't work out what exactly they were meant to be doing. No cameras were allowed in Westminster Hall so they were not filming in there. If they were filming about the queue, the lying in state etc well just about every channel had already covered it all practically non stop. Every news broadcast covered it plus anyone who wanted to could watch the live feed.

Also anything they filmed or any comments etc would go out after the funeral. What on earth would be the point of that?

A poster says they would have have had the time to queue because of "work". Well they don't work Fridays, Saturdays or Sundays so, in fact, plenty of time to queue.

Fupoffyagrasshole · 22/09/2022 08:42

i mean the number of people who signed the petition is so small in comparison to the actual population (50k when i looked last night) I don't think that's very much tbh

I couldn't really care tbh watch another show if you don't like this

Ohtsd · 22/09/2022 08:44

We don't know who else was there with them as only H and P would be recognised, when they were outside there looked like 3 or 4 others

1fluffydoodle · 22/09/2022 08:48

Totally agree that they did abuse their positions and skipped the queues. No proper footage has been used to backup their claim.
What I would like is a list of everyone else who used this access and an explanation of why.
This would be help to establish if the others using this access also skipped the queues or where actually there for journalistic purposes.

ImAvingOops · 22/09/2022 08:48

This is how people are showing their disapproval for all the things they have done previously, which are out of touch with public mood.
I think a lot of people do not consider it brave to come out after all these years, particularly when iirc his hand was forced and it was going to be leaked. My sympathies are entirely with the wives on these situations. There are rumours that PS hasn't behaved approximately and accusations of bullying.
None of that tallies with the happy, friendly, nice face of ITV. ITV have all their eggs in one basket re presenters - time to refresh things a bit lot imo.
Holly has been caught up in on because they market themselves as besties (boak) and she has publicly simpered and supported. Again, this tends to pass off viewers who think about the wife's perspective.

No one really cares that much about the queue - it's the bad handling of it and general attitude/behaviour that has viewers wanting to see them go!

the80sweregreat · 22/09/2022 08:49

They didn't want to queue up.
It's that simple. Someone offered an alternative and they took it.
I can understand her as she has young children to consider and maybe just didn't fancy it!
Might have been better to have had Phil queue up interviewing people on the way up or something? Damage control.
Still , it'll blow over.

Prescottdanni123 · 22/09/2022 08:51

@1fluffydoodle

It was reported that the decision was made not to use the footage in face of the backlash. Because people were making out they didn't have the right to be there recording footage, its disgusting that their film crew was there at all blah blah blah. And now people are complaining that they haven't used the footage.
