Holly and Phil

Apologies if there are other threads on this. How do we feel about it all? I don't particularly like a pile on but it seems like the tide has finally turned on these two. There was a time when everyone seemed to love them and their 'oh look we've turned up to a This Morning still pissed from an awards ceremony' was funny at the time. But I think it's gone to their heads and they've become more and more arrogant.

The queue jump situation for me was a clear sign of them thinking they are special, for want of a better phrase. Queuing showed dedication and respect but they just bypassed that. And the weak excuses since haven't helped at all. I see now Holly is consulting lawyers. It must be difficult for them to go on air knowing there's so much public bad feeling against them but I can't help but feel like they've had it coming for a while....

Anyone else?

Too busy enjoying life to watch their show or care about queues.

Floweryflora · 22/09/2022 08:54

choosername1234 · 22/09/2022 07:58

Would you queue for 12 hours to do your job? Thought not

To be fair on this there was no crew. Not even outside with them. It was done on a Friday their day off. And due to the bank holiday the next time they’d be on tv was the Tuesday after the funeral, so really not relevant, they were not reporting for the nation. Plus it was on live feed anyway/

I think it’s clear they did use their position to queue jump , many would. The issue is they aren’t owning it.

KiraKiraHikaru · 22/09/2022 08:55

I don’t have a problem with any celebrity queue jumping anything or getting privately to places. The level of harassment they get from members of the public wanting to take photos and sign stuff etc when you’re just trying to go about your life. Must be hell.

JacquelineCarlyle · 22/09/2022 08:55

The queue jumping is just a red herring, I think it is a convenient minor infraction that has been been used to vent against the insufferably perma smug giggling self appointed king and queen of day time TV. Holly could probably survive this insofar as going on to other projects where I think people have had enough of 'Brave Phil' and his PR team.

I agree with this.

Floweryflora · 22/09/2022 08:55

Prescottdanni123 · 22/09/2022 08:51

@1fluffydoodle

It was reported that the decision was made not to use the footage in face of the backlash. Because people were making out they didn't have the right to be there recording footage, its disgusting that their film crew was there at all blah blah blah. And now people are complaining that they haven't used the footage.

There was no film crew with them.

Yes people know Phil got away with his sexual harassment of a young runner and he made it all go away.
I used to think eamonn holmes was a slob but I think now I am trusting his hatred of Phil.

As for Holly, she attached her wagon to Phil. She should have made it plainer that they are colleagues not friends qnd make it clear she coukd work with anybody.
If Phil gets taken down, Holly's career probably on its last legs whether she deserves that fate or not

Ohtsd · 22/09/2022 08:56

What possible footage could there be apart from people walking past which was on the live stream, I doubt there was anything of interest out the back, I doubt the royal family were out there in the wings being interviewed by them, there was nothing to report on

GhostFromTheOtherSide · 22/09/2022 08:57

yawn.

“Sorry if there are already threads on this” I presume you can’t read then?

FGS mn hq can we have a holly and Phil topic to get rid of all these shite threads?

Ohtsd · 22/09/2022 08:57

Maybe it was planned before the live stream was announced and they didn't bother pulling out, which is what they should have done

Carriemac · 22/09/2022 08:58

This sums it up

I agree with this.

I also agree with this. I think this is about the fact people don’t like them, particularly Philip and are using this as an opportunity to try to get rid. Holly is basically going down with the ship.

ever since their was rumours of Philip having an affair with a very young runner on the show, people have found him distasteful. It’s nothing about sexuality it is about having an affair with a young employee.

bloodyplanes · 22/09/2022 08:58

Firstly I think its just a convenient excuse for people to get the knives out for this smug, awful pair. Secondly they are clearly lying and so is ITV in saying that they were working and thirdly i hope this finally gets rid of them. I cannot believe that ITV kept Phil on after his grooming of a young man and humiliating his wife on national tv, Holly is only there as his dumb sidekick and because of her husbands tv contacts. By all accounts neither are particularly nice people or well liked in the media world, so it looks like people have finally had enough of them.

miserablecat · 22/09/2022 08:59

I don't watch this morning but I'm a bit dubious about them doing it in their role as journalists "for people who couldn't go themselves" well duh there was 24/7 rolling coverage of it so that doesn't really explain it.

Agree with pp the "explanation" from Holly is really cringey. I'm bemused about a petition for them to lose their jobs though, that seems OTT (Though they have several other gigs apart from This Morning) I think Holly will be OK, her husband is a TV producer with itv I think.

Sally090807 · 22/09/2022 09:02

I find them both smug so hope they are replaced.

Ofnadwy · 22/09/2022 09:05

They are the Ryanair of morning tv. Cheap, tacky and ubiquitous and both love a bit of publicity - good or bad. I suppose all of this was orchestrated to bump up the ratings.

I wasn't aware they had a crew with them either but whatever happened I think it was inappropriate.

They clearly aren't the only ones that used this access and I don't really understand it's purpose except to allow an elite group who were classified as journalists the right to skip the queues.

They didn't need any additional access as there was already a live 24hr feed of inside the area.

The press have decided Name and Shame Holly and Phil.

Who's next?

MsFizz · 22/09/2022 09:11

Yes there's been lots of threads

Absolute storm in a tea cup. I think they deserve benefit of the doubt and accept that they were there as press to report (so what if they aren't hard core journalists, they are TV personalities). It sounds like they didn't file through but were just escorted to the press platform

EVEN IF you don't buy that then so bloody what? Is anyone really surprised that privileged celebs get special treatment? It's not like they were the only ones (MPs etc). Even more ridiculous is the context - as Adam Hill says it's a weird quirk that fans of the Royal Family are so pent up about privileged people getting special treatment.

There are WAY MORE important things to be worried about than the fact that bloody Holly and Phil might have queue jumped. I can't even believe I've wasted minutes of my life typing this post it's such a non-issue

luxxlisbon · 22/09/2022 09:15

Person in the media uses media pass for event.
Shocking.

This obsessive desire for ‘gotcha’ and to cancel people is obscene.
The same people doing this are the first to whinge about the press hounding people when they are literally part of the machine too.
It’s not the press, it’s not the papers, it’s you.

Is there any need to be so rude? If there are other threads, I haven't seen them. Yawn yet you still feel the need to comment. Bizarre.

I like This Morning. It's topical and interesting. But I'm not keen on their presenting style. At one point they were the golden faces of ITV, they had a matey, approachable style. But the silly giggling was annoying and unprofessional and like many other people, I thought the public simpering to Phil was nauseating and massively inappropriate.

Imagine complaining about some mid level tv personality being part of an ‘elite group’ when we are talking about the royal family. Literally the most elite and exclusive groups in the country.
A group of people born into such extreme, grotesque wealth, status and power but you’re focusing on the injustice of someone not standing in line long enough!

safetyfreak · 22/09/2022 09:20

I have never liked Phil, there is something quite cold and calculating about him. I be happy if he taken down a peg or two.

mum2bee2022 · 22/09/2022 09:22

They are an awful nasty paid by all accounts. Glad they’ve finally got their karma.

Prescottdanni123 · 22/09/2022 09:22

@1fluffydoodle

Whether there was a film crew or not, they were there to create a segment for this morning, and people said that they shouldn't air anything related to it because they shouldn't have been there. Now they haven't shown their segment on the lying in state to its full extent as a result of this, and people are still complaining about it. They can't do right for doing wrong.

The most laughable part in all of this is if the vast majority of haters were given the chance to skip the queue, they would have jumped at the chance. A

ErinAoife · 22/09/2022 09:22

Never watch this morning show but as far as I can gather they were doing a segment for their network so not jumping queue. Don't understand the witch hunt if you don't like them Don't watch their program, it is easy.

OhMerde · 22/09/2022 09:23

I can't bear them but this campaign to get rid is appalling. What if it was you in your job. If the boss wanted rid of you, you'd hope they'd put you through a humane process, whether that be a disciplinary/improvement process or a settlement agreement. Do you think it would be OK if they instead sent a vote button to all your colleagues with the results flashed up on a screen? Hounded you publicly until you quit? Even people with vast salaries and public profile deserve to be treated with some degree of humanity.
