Our new King, Charles

How awful it must be for him to lose his mother and then immediately take on this role. He's had his whole life to prepare, but can a person ever really prepare for something like that?

I like Charles. God save the king!

I was surprised to read the statement on the royal family page and how blunt it was and already referring to him as king. Could it not just have been a dedication to her? I'm not interested in where Charles and camilla are sleeping tonight!

Thats how it’s always been and how the Queen would have wanted it, being dedicated to tradition and duty.
The Queen is dead, long live the king.

Darbs76 · 08/09/2022 20:34

I think Charles will do a good job. Handing to William would not be a good thing to do at all. He’s got a very young family, he won’t want to be King at this point in his life, he will want to be as present as possible in his children’s lives. No doubt William and Catherine will have a lot more engagements as they become Prince and Princess of Wales and Heir to the throne. Let Charles have his time, it’s only right and he’s waited his entire life for this opportunity. Let’s give him our support.

purfectpuss · 08/09/2022 20:34

Charles was as much a victim as Diana was. They both had affairs, they both acted wrongly.

Since then though, he has shown that he has many good qualities. He cares deeply about the environment, the country, the monarchy and his family. He has a supportive and loyal partner in Camilla and even the Queen came to respect her and wished her to be named Queen Consort.

I think Charles will be a good King and will pave the way and give some good biding time before William replaces him.

It’s always been that way. Palace bulletins are brief and to the point. The Heir takes the Crown on the death of the previous monarch.
“The Queen is dead. Long live the King”

Sexnotgender · 08/09/2022 20:35

I can’t imagine trying to mourn your mother and seeing her face everywhere, stamps, money, newspapers constantly. It must be utterly bizarre.

Thinkingblonde · 08/09/2022 20:36

My thoughts too.

He will always be Charles the Cheater as far as I am concerned and Camilla will always be the OW

They married / were forced to marry the wrong people 🤷🏻‍♀️

Yes, my thoughts too.

Wingingit15 · 08/09/2022 20:37

Never trust a cheater.
matter of public record that truss also had an affair too!

Lesserspottedmama · 08/09/2022 20:38

People who are ‘stunned’ and ‘in shock’ - were you aware she was 96?! Also the comments about Charles’s deep grief over his 96 year old mother are ridiculous. She was ancient, people die, he knew it was coming, he’ll miss her sometimes. People on here are strange.

Haudyourwheesht · 08/09/2022 20:38

@Culldesack Aye, cheers Thread Police. Grin

Kellie45 · 08/09/2022 20:38

When we look down the list of monarchs we see most of them were pretty imperfect people. So let’s not get too much on our high horse about Charles. And which sleazy politician would you like to represent us if we had a republic? The voice isn’t exactly mouthwatering!

ThisIsNotThePostYourLookingFor · 08/09/2022 19:36

Im surprised at his age he hasn’t just passed it to William. He should be relaxing in his 70’s not taking up a massive role

Abdication isn't really an option. Yes it has happened in the past but for serious reasons. You can't say just "I'm going to pass this on now"
Plus who would want to give that job to their kids? Let them have a bit longer in life not being monarch

Rainbowqueeen · 08/09/2022 20:39

I like Charles too.

There is a lot more to him than a disastrous first marriage with fault on both sides. I actually think that if Diana had lived they would have moved forward to the point where they both recognised this and been able to coparent. and get along well

I really feel for him having to deal with all this when I’m sure he’d rather mourn his mother in private. His speech about her at the Jubilee was lovely

GoneWithTheWine1 · 08/09/2022 20:40

I'm not a fan of Charles however he doesn't deserve the hate over camilla and Diana.
He never wanted to marry Diana, it was always Camilla but the family forced him into it.

Will the national anthem lyrics change ?

He'd look a right doily if they didn't don't you think?

wherearebeefandonioncrisps · 08/09/2022 20:40

All of those Diana lovers were screaming for the Royal Family to appear at Buckingham Palace when she died.

No screaming now.

This in spades!

Toddlerteaplease · 08/09/2022 20:43

I think Charles and Camilla will do a really good job. We need to leave Diana out of the picture. She's been dead 25 years.

DowningStreetParty · 08/09/2022 20:43

If King Charles can prioritise urging action on the environmental crisis that we are all facing, then that would be an excellent contribution for him to make. I think Camilla has done great work highlighting domestic abuse causes, I hope they will make a good job of it.

Hence the announcement that they're staying at Balmoral tonight and returning to London tomorrow, after the criticism that the family had stayed away to console the young princes who'd just lost their mother, rather going to the palace to look at the flowers.

londonrach · 08/09/2022 20:47

The queen was amazing lady and huge respect...I never respect Charles.... He never be like his mum. His mum was unique and so special...15 prime minister's....an era has ended. Historic. Vvvv sad

Totally agree. I didn't like Camilla at first but she's shown herself to be a good wife to the now King and his sons appear to like her.

I feel sorry that Charles will only be able to serve his country as King for maybe 25 years due to his age.
