Our new King, Charles

How awful it must be for him to lose his mother and then immediately take on this role. He's had his whole life to prepare, but can a person ever really prepare for something like that?

Probably not.

Age is on his side, he’s more mature. His mum took on this role aged 24.

And I guess he always knew it was coming.

I like Charles. He cares about the environment, wrote cool stories and overcame a lot hurdles to finally be with the woman he loves.

I am afraid I do not share the sentiments - he did not overcome lots of hurdles to be with the woman he loved, he was with her during his marriage and callously allowed his young wife to be sacrificed to his own desires. I have no time for the man to be frank.

I am sorry his Mum has died, but that does not make me blind to his faults.

I presume William will become Prince of Wales now?

MythicalBiologicalFennel · 08/09/2022 19:39

AshTrees · 08/09/2022 19:25

He will always be Charles the Cheater as far as I am concerned and Camilla will always be the OW

Remember he is also the head of the church now 🙄

Will the national anthem lyrics change ?

Yes, but you just replace the word queen for king. It's going to take some adjustment I think 😳

I wonder how many people will go

"God save our gracious Qu..King"

It's not automatic. He has to be given the title by the King.

Aquarius1234 · 08/09/2022 19:41

I doubt Boris wrote whatever his was alone.
And he's quite fake nice in general.

Yes, in due course. I believe the expectation is it'll be one of the first duties of the new monarch after the coronation.

Aquarius1234 · 08/09/2022 19:42

I think King Charles III will be awful. He can't even speak properly for a start.

Aquarius1234 · 08/09/2022 19:45

I actually thought this news wouldn't go ok all evening.

TeacupDrama · 08/09/2022 19:45

William has become Duke of Cornwall and Prince George will be Duke of Cambridge ( though probably not officially)

I heard some of it read out on the news, it sounded written by a drunk

twoshedsjackson · 08/09/2022 19:45

I am old enough to remember my teacher, seated at the piano, nearly singing "God Save the King " by mistake, and catching herself with an exasperated "Oh dear, I shall never get it right" .........
Another era, when a state primary (not a church school) had us infants singing the National Anthem and reciting the Lord's Prayer as a matter of course.
So yes, the lyrics will change.

Aquarius1234 · 08/09/2022 19:48

I thought there was be more discussion regarding what happened. Its all very repetitive.

Aquarius1234 · 08/09/2022 19:48

Would*

Mad I know, but I feel really sad that some things will never be the same again. I’m in my fifties, stamps and notes have always had the queen on them. Can you even imagine a stamp with Charles’ head on?

She can never be replaced.

whumpthereitis · 08/09/2022 19:50

Not seeing a problem. In terms of tradition, it’s not like he’s done anything that deviates from it. Hell, the Church of England is a result of a King wanting to fuck off his first wife, so if anything Charles has been comparatively understated.

TQIDLLTK · 08/09/2022 19:25

Am raising a glass to his mum, may she rest in peace.

Truss' statement was excellent, I am very glad Boris wasn't in office for this.

I agree

Tasteless.

Lol. A church that exists because of adultery. At least he’s still on his second wife and has refrained from chopping her head off.

I imagine notes and coins with the Queen on them will remain in circulation for a while. I was born in the early 60s but I remember coins with George VI’s head on them.

I'd say a lot of the fault probably lies with his mum. His family certainly.

I'm the same

Yet, at an extremely sad time, you two decide to open a thread about him and make derogatory comments. Quite ironic given you're trying to be moralistic about his first marriage.
