How awful it must be for him to lose his mother and then immediately take on this role. He's had his whole life to prepare, but can a person ever really prepare for something like that?

I was just thinking this. Having to 'rule' whilst grieving and having the eyes of the world on you as well.

TheLightSideOfTheMoon · 08/09/2022 19:19

Probably not.

Age is on his side, he’s more mature. His mum took on this role aged 24.

And I guess he always knew it was coming.

I like Charles. He cares about the environment, wrote cool stories and overcame a lot hurdles to finally be with the woman he loves.

Pleasegivemeyourwisdom · 08/09/2022 19:19

I'm quite literally stunned at the news. Our queen - passed. Surreal

Holidaywoes2022 · 08/09/2022 19:19

I'd hate to be King Charles or Liz Truss atm 😔

You are not alone in that feeling. I've always thought this about him too.

Well that's the nature of the beast, isn't it?

CousinGregg · 08/09/2022 19:21

Oh so Diana was a hurdle? No she was a lamb to the slaughter! Time for this farce to end now the dear queen has gone.

Brideandpredjudice · 08/09/2022 19:23

He has released a statement I'm not sure how to attach it

AshTrees · 08/09/2022 19:25

He will always be Charles the Cheater as far as I am concerned and Camilla will always be the OW

TQIDLLTK · 08/09/2022 19:25

Am raising a glass to his mum, may she rest in peace.

Truss' statement was excellent, I am very glad Boris wasn't in office for this.

Bedknobsandbroomsticks2 · 08/09/2022 19:26

What hurdles did he overcome? He had an affair

Well that's how you see it.

I wish King Charles all the best. If we were all judged by our faults who would stand? Just that his were carried on in the public eye. I think there’s far worse people around so let’s wish him well.

Anonymouseposter · 08/09/2022 19:31

I see a lot of good qualities in King Charles and at the moment prefer to focus on that.

Indoctro · 08/09/2022 19:31

King Charles lll is his name they have announced

I was a cheater. I was in a miserable marriage, I met someone and I cheated.

It sucked. But it happens.

People aren’t perfect. Doesn’t mean they aren’t good people.

Nonunsnonunsnone · 08/09/2022 19:33

Plus him and Diana spent about 4 days in each others private company prior to their engagement. They were strangers.

CaptainBarbosa · 08/09/2022 19:34

I think King Charles III will be a good king.

He's cared about the environment long before it was popular to care for the environment. He will have learnt a lot from his mother, he's had a very very long apprenticeship after all.

Whilst he has his own personal history, I don't think it should be held against him.

Long live the King.

Will the national anthem lyrics change ?

ThisIsNotThePostYourLookingFor · 08/09/2022 19:36

Im surprised at his age he hasn’t just passed it to William. He should be relaxing in his 70’s not taking up a massive role

RayVonsmullet · 08/09/2022 19:36

It's so jarring to hear them saying "The King" on the BBC. It'll take a while to get used to it I think.

bellac11 · 08/09/2022 19:37

Yes its hard that he is now going straight into 'process', rather than just having time. Its inhumane really, particuarly in this day and age
