How awful it must be for him to lose his mother and then immediately take on this role. He's had his whole life to prepare, but can a person ever really prepare for something like that?

OP posts:
the80sweregreat · 10/09/2022 11:14

It'll be a sad day though

JustLyra · 10/09/2022 11:15

the80sweregreat · 10/09/2022 11:14

We've got a back holiday !
Approved

The funeral must be a weekday then.

the80sweregreat · 10/09/2022 11:18

So much history made today !

the80sweregreat · 10/09/2022 11:20

The new King was a bit frustrated with the fountain pens there.
Penny Mordaunt did well. Very polished

Well that's how you see it.

It's true, you cannot deny it.

Govanexpat · 10/09/2022 11:48

A civic and ceremonial role for him, yes but his adultery makes him unfit to be head of the Church of England

I thought repentance and forgiveness were basic tenets of the Christian church. I seem to remember a parable about a lost sheep and another about a prodigal son.

Considering how it was founded, I’d say he’s a fantastic candidate.

the80sweregreat · 10/09/2022 12:09

The Royals have had affairs for centuries. Renowned for it
We still have still got them here , carrying on!

Umm you do know how the church of England came to be don't you 😳😂

Wasn't with honest and best intentions, Henry VIII wanted to divorce his first wife and "officially" be allowed to carry on shagging Anne Boleyn and put a ring on it 😂 pope said no, so Henry said fuck you, I'll make my own church then, new bibles and all!

the80sweregreat · 10/09/2022 12:38

Henry the eighth was one of the worst ones. If you want something lighthearted
Watch ' carry on Henry' it's factually correct !
Our history is steeped in affairs and illegitimate children. Boris Johnson is one too ( historically) related to one of the Charles ( or something like that )
They had the morals of alley cats back then

I’m thinking the real issue for the traditionalists isn’t the adultery, it’s that he stayed married to the second wife and didn’t even try for at least two beheadings and a divorce. If you’re going to be the head of the C of E you’ve got to commit fully.

Antarcticant · 10/09/2022 12:41

Yes, the authentic account of one William Cobbler. Cobbler's from beginning to end Grin

the80sweregreat · 10/09/2022 12:53

It was a history programme I watched once ; an acknowledged historian said ' watch carry on Henry, it is factually correct '
Nobody ever believes me though

I wish King Charles all the best. If we were all judged by our faults who would stand? Just that his were carried on in the public eye. I think there’s far worse people around so let’s wish him well.

Completely agree

LuftBalloons · 10/09/2022 15:37

😂 @whumpthereitis

For me the problem is partly his adultery and cruelty. But what I find more disturbing is his continuing pontification on matters of morality and community.

It's the hypocrisy I find difficult to stomach.

YoniWheretheSunDontShine · 10/09/2022 15:39

@the80sweregreat

What a fabulous day!
Incredible

Blossomtoes · 10/09/2022 15:41

When did he pontificate on morality? I must have missed that.

YoniWheretheSunDontShine · 10/09/2022 15:52

Poor Camilla will be doing lots of heavy lifting with him.

Both William and Camilla looked like they had had it in the neck!

Skodacool · 10/09/2022 17:08

Camilla looks distraught

JustLyra · 10/09/2022 18:12

He’s just stopped his car on the Mall to talk to some members of the public.

the BBC cameraman is frantically trying to unplug all the wiring to move his camera as it’s currently out of view.

Blossomtoes · 10/09/2022 18:16

Hopefully his security detail will be a bit more discreet today.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 10/09/2022 18:22

we were worried about the crowds and the watchign security yesterday

Puzzledandpissedoff · 10/09/2022 19:59

mountbatten introduced Saville to the Royals

I hadn't realised that, hoopmatrix, but remembering Mountbatten's own moral code it makes perfect sense Hmm

CathyorClaire · 10/09/2022 21:14

Our new king hissed at his lackeys in front of the nation's cameras over an inconveniently placed pen box on the day he'd been waiting seventy odd years for.

Plus ça change.
