Our new King, Charles

How awful it must be for him to lose his mother and then immediately take on this role. He's had his whole life to prepare, but can a person ever really prepare for something like that?

Sorry if this has been said but I was thinking I wonder how many years it will be before the Uk gets a queen again. Obviously there is King Charles then William and then George. Suppose it depends if George has a son.

londonrach · 09/09/2022 07:08

King Charles spaniel...I'm glad I'm not the only one

I was a cheater. I was in a miserable marriage, I met someone and I cheated.

It sucked. But it happens.

People aren’t perfect. Doesn’t mean they aren’t good people.

Charles was cheating the day he got married. Not the same at all Confused

How on earth does he not speak properly? His speech is very similar to the Queen's, albeit in a male intonation.

Didn’t you know? He is royal. Royalty all tend to talk that way!

BMW6 · 09/09/2022 07:31

No he wasn't! Stop making up shite!

YoniWheretheSunDontShine · 09/09/2022 07:41

Charles of course is an incredibly floored damaged man! Now his sons are also.
That's humanity for you. Your wealth cloak doesn't protect anyone from matters of the heart..
He's human and more relatable than the queen.

I think he will do well.

It will depend what sex George's firstborn child is. If it is a girl then we will have a queen. assuming he has children.

He will always be Charles the Cheater as far as I am concerned and Camilla will always be the OW

Yes, this is it for me also.

Its very unfortunate that the new Head of State and his Consort as well as the new Head of Government are all cheats who stepped outside of their marriages.

And yes, Diana was no angel either but the odds were very much against her from start when it came to Charles and Camilla. She really didn’t stand a chance.

He’s not an incredibly flawed and damaged man any more than a lot of other people. Just had to work out his problems in the full glare of the press. The mistake he made was not marrying Camilla in the first place when she was first available

Totally this. Many , many of us are divorced, remarried, or had affairs and stayed together; we made mistakes, though rarely so publicly.

It was a long time ago. I am choosing to move on.

NanaNelly · 09/09/2022 07:58

I think King Charles III will be awful. He can't even speak properly for a start

He has a very soothing voice.

And regarding the Tampax - it was a funny moment at a time when the most awful of things were going on and lives were being shattered.

Granted he does have many good things going for him and I’m trying to reconcile to the fact he’s now our King despite his past goings on. That perhaps I should concentrate more on him coming to the country where I live and quietly doing a few days fasting during Ramadan because of his interests in other faiths. It’s done very quietly and without fanfare. And I appreciate him for that.

Charles was as much a victim as Diana was. They both had affairs, they both acted wrongly.

Since then though, he has shown that he has many good qualities. He cares deeply about the environment, the country, the monarchy and his family. He has a supportive and loyal partner in Camilla and even the Queen came to respect her and wished her to be named Queen Consort.

I think Charles will be a good King and will pave the way and give some good biding time before William replaces him.

Agree with this. Charles has always been interested in conservation and set up a great charity with the Princes Trust.
Taking over from the Queen will be incredibly difficult and he will inevitably get some things wrong and people will complain that it’s not what the Queen would do, but that’s life, it keeps moving forwards and it brings change.
I wish him well and am glad he has his wife and family around to support him.

thegreylady · 09/09/2022 08:13

So many long wooden spoons out on this thread.
Charles was ‘born to be King’ and I think he will be a good one. I had no time for Diana but I think she was dealt a rotten hand and was too young to play it wisely.

the80sweregreat · 09/09/2022 08:15

Prince Charles visited my sons old primary school once in 2003.
He approached the crowd outside and asked one child ' I believe they shut the school this afternoon?
I'm glad I'm useful for something' then he laughed ! It was funny.

Certainly ten years of Charles will give William’s family a chance to grow up a bit before he becomes monarch. Also the Queen is a hard act to follow so an older man is not a bad idea.

You’ve said it very well - that Diana was too young to know how to play the rotten hand she was dealt. She was young and was up against so much. She was even up against her own grandmother who was a Lady in Waiting to the Queen and basically told her - don’t be silly, this is what happens.

I wonder if Charles and Camilla will continue to live in separate abodes as they do now.

She, nor any woman, is not responsible for a man deciding to cheat on his wife

Best tell that to those banging on about Camilla.

If only we had that pillar of morality, the previous Head of Government, back ...

And it's not as if we've never had a divorced monarch before. Henry VIII, anyone?

Wow! New stamps. Notes/coins

Letterboxes! Will they remove ER? What will
Ot be: CR?

Were not elizabethans. WhT are we? Chartons?
Charlesthians?

What else?

Why would they change letterboxes? There are plenty of VR and GR ones up and down the country. New ones will be different of course, but that's all.

Cheating is either right or wrong. Diana also lost her morals when she slept with married men. You don't change the rules, to suit.

That’s the gig though isn’t it? Doesn’t matter what sort of person he is or how we feel about him or how he conducts himself, we’ve bought into this family being special and having a birthright to leadership.

Bizarre way to run a developed democracy, but here we are.

The Royal family have zilch to do with democracy.

But they have got a role in governance. They get sight of proposed law and have lobbied for changes to them and gained exceptions for themselves. The government is now suspended for 10 days. They have an impact.
