To pull my cleaner up on this?

I have a TikTok account but don’t post on it, just watch other videos!

Like instagram TikTok pushes accounts linked to phone contacts to your home page.

Scrolling yesterday, I’ve been astounded to find multiple videos posted by my cleaner dancing, singing and wearing accessories (hat and sunglasses) in my bedroom on her account. She’s done this many times as she has different outfits on in each. She’s sat on my bed, dancing in my mirror and posing with my hat (left out on a hanger) and sunglasses taken from my bedside table.

She cleans once every two weeks for 2 hours and I leave her alone for one hour so she can get my office done as I WFH. I have found her so far trustworthy although she’s damaged a few things I’ve mentioned to her.

Her cleaning is good but I find her a bit strange and blunt but thought that’s a language barrier thing (she’s asked a few times how I can afford to live alone in my flat)

I want to raise it with her- but am I overreacting?

OP posts:

I'd be livid as I am a very private person and would hate for my home to be posted online

PrayTell · 01/08/2022 00:49

My SIL went home unexpectedly and found her cleaner using her makeup and hair styling equipment!

user1477391263 · 01/08/2022 01:09

If this is real, she needs to be booted immediately. TikTok has a dicey reputation for security anyway, apart from the fact that she is clearly dicking around during work hours. I would be furious about my house interior featuring on a TikTok video.

user1477391263 · 01/08/2022 01:12

I'm also surprised people are doubting the OP. The amount of stupid TikTok behavior (especially people using their work spaces in inappropriate ways) is unbelievable. There is something about TikTok that makes adults revert to extremely childish behavior.

Itisasecret · 31/07/2022 19:24

MN is batshit. Op you shouldn’t have to verify yourself to anyone on here. In facts it is nuts people think it’s even remotely acceptable to ask. You should just let MN decide. People who think it’s appropriate to demand personally identifying information on the internet are not the full ticket.

PS - I’d sack her.

Totally agree.

Italianmamami · 01/08/2022 01:15

You are paying her to clean not post on social media. She is also using your items, it’s all very unprofessional. I would let her go and find someone more reliable.

TempNameChangexx · 01/08/2022 01:32

Definitely change the locks - she could well copy them before she gives them back to you

GreenFingersWouldBeHandy · 01/08/2022 02:11

'Pull your cleaner up on this'.

I think you need to sack your cleaner.

ittakes2 · 01/08/2022 07:20

Terrible breach of trust I would let her go

CharlotteOH · 01/08/2022 07:49

I’d let her go. Wtf.

blueskyeve · 01/08/2022 08:46

So annoying when the OP doesn't return after first post!

Soubriquet · 01/08/2022 08:47

She did. Under a different name

britneyisfree · 01/08/2022 08:47

@blueskyeve she did but she name changed.

She's now @Canyoudigityesyoucan

TedMullins · 01/08/2022 09:09

Just here to see what the cleaner replies

Canyoudigityesyoucan · 01/08/2022 09:18

No reply from cleaner but my key was put through my letterbox this morning.

I’ve been blocked on WhatsApp now and will obviously now have to change my locks just in case there’s anything untoward…..

ChinnyTroubles · 01/08/2022 09:21

I can't find the post where you said what you texted her OP. What did you say?
Glad you have your key back though!

Canyoudigityesyoucan · 01/08/2022 09:25

I think I used inspo from someone up thread!

I explained I’d no longer be needing her and can I have my key back. I’d seen videos of my home on her public TikTok account and was really unhappy she’d invaded my privacy like this. I asked her o remove them immediately and return my key within 24 hours.

The videos are still up but I have my key back…,,

KyaClark · 01/08/2022 09:27

She's such a prick.

Tougherpolicies · 01/08/2022 09:41

Well done OP but God I'd be livid that the videos are still up. Can the police do anything or is that a totally unrealistic question?

GonnaGetGoingReturns · 01/08/2022 09:53

Get rid of the cleaner.

I worked for someone who had a cleaner and they had to sack their cleaner when they found proof (caught red handed once) of cleaner stealing perfume, money etc. Cleaner was through an agency.

Canyoudigityesyoucan · 01/08/2022 10:22

@Tougherpolicies well she’s about 24 hours from me posting on a local forum with her photo and asking anyone else who might use her to have a look at her TikTok account…

There’s one particularly cheeky video of her lying flat out on someone’s sofa with her feet up chilling……presumably whilst working.

anyway she hasn’t blocked me on iMessage so followed up and said thanks for key, locks were being changed and I reiterated request to remove videos

Festoonlights · 31/07/2022 20:45

When challenged my cleaner apologised and said ‘they all do it ‘ its harmless. I never used the agency again

As I mentioned earlier, I'm a domestic cleaner. Have been for the last 4 yrs... no, we don't all do it. I can promise you (and anyone else here) this is NOT normal in the industry. I cannot imagine how anyone would think this was acceptable. A cleaner is a tradesperson hired to provide cleaning services ONLY. Not to rifle through people's personal possessions, try them on for size, parade about in them and then claim all cleaners do it.

Jesus Christ, I'd have torn her new one. It's arseholes like this that continue to give the profession a bad name.

I know plenty of other cleaners and I can guarantee they'd all be open-mouthed at some of these stories.

I think what a few people are getting at, is that it's very easy for a cleaner (or any other worker in a home, e.g. gardener etc) to not work as well, thoroughly, or leave early.

That's fine when people are in agreement with this but not when they're not.

I used to sort of manage a small solicitors office, cleaners came after work. One night I realised I'd left my mobile at work, I'd gone to the pub for a drink after work near my office, so I went back, found cleaners were leaving and I knew they arrived not long after I left work as that's what was arranged. They'd been there less than 30 minutes. They were trying to cut corners and what wasn't great was the woman's boyfriend was there but not her, we had no idea who the boyfriend was. This was through an agency. In fact, recently we'd had another cleaning company come round and point out areas e.g. in toilet where our cleaners hadn't cleaned but you wouldn't think to look. We got rid of them and the agency and paid more for better cleaners.

Can you put a still of it on the local WhatsApp group you said about and ask if this is anyone's house? That is disgraceful!

Is your aim to try and get her sacked from all of her jobs so she has no work ?
