To pull my cleaner up on this?

I have a TikTok account but don’t post on it, just watch other videos!

Like instagram TikTok pushes accounts linked to phone contacts to your home page.

Scrolling yesterday, I’ve been astounded to find multiple videos posted by my cleaner dancing, singing and wearing accessories (hat and sunglasses) in my bedroom on her account. She’s done this many times as she has different outfits on in each. She’s sat on my bed, dancing in my mirror and posing with my hat (left out on a hanger) and sunglasses taken from my bedside table.

She cleans once every two weeks for 2 hours and I leave her alone for one hour so she can get my office done as I WFH. I have found her so far trustworthy although she’s damaged a few things I’ve mentioned to her.

Her cleaning is good but I find her a bit strange and blunt but thought that’s a language barrier thing (she’s asked a few times how I can afford to live alone in my flat)

I want to raise it with her- but am I overreacting?

She can only be doing this while you are paying her to be cleaning, because otherwise I don't see how she is in your room.

I'd sack her & tell her why.
I'd also tell whoever recommended her, as they may find her doing the same thing in their home without their knowledge or permission.

Canyoudigityesyoucan · 31/07/2022 20:00

I might just send her the videos

Itsbritneybitch22 · 31/07/2022 20:00

Why is everyone convinced that this didn’t happen?

NobblyKnees · 31/07/2022 20:01

I'm a domestic cleaner for a living. This is an abhorrent abuse of both your trust and the time you're paying her for. This is gross misconduct and you should 100% forward the vids to her with a message stating "I require my key to be returned within 24hrs, I no longer wish to use your services for obvious reasons"

Mississipi71 · 31/07/2022 20:04

Muminncusa · 31/07/2022 19:52

If OP was paying for 2 hours of CLEANING and the cleaner was not working, isn't that theft?

Obtaining money by deception.

rnsaslkih · 31/07/2022 20:05

Wtf
making tiktoks with your stuff in your bedroom whilst you’re paying her? Just sack her. I wouldn’t even raise it with her - total lack of well anything needed to work

Flavabobble · 31/07/2022 20:05

You need to do a reaction video, using a clip from one of her tiktoks. Shake a finger and mime out "you're sacked".

Theimpossiblegirl · 31/07/2022 20:05

Op, don't pm people. They are being rude and troll hunting.
If you don't believe, move on.

MyrtlethePurpleTurtle · 31/07/2022 20:05

Just sack her

Canyoudigityesyoucan · 31/07/2022 20:06

No idea @Itsbritneybitch22

thanks @NobblyKnees am drafting text now

also re previous damage she managed to chip my worktop upstand (laminate) and took a fair chunk out of the corner and instead of telling me she put the chunk in the bin (or didn’t notice and vacuumed it up) so I couldn’t glue and fix it!

LordEmsworth · 31/07/2022 20:08

This can't be true, because no-one would react by asking a bunch of strangers "hmmm do you think it's ok to mention it to her?" 🙄

OldFan · 31/07/2022 20:10

That's not good @Trendytrousers . I was in a bad mood about something (not my employers) once and accidentally trod on and broke one of the many little plastic dinosaurs. I felt bad enough about that.

What makes you so sure? There are some strange people out there, doing strange things...

romdowa · 31/07/2022 20:11

Send her a link to one of the videos in your flat. I'm sure she will get the message then

OldFan · 31/07/2022 20:12

@LordEmsworth In today's world, I'm sure there exist some people who will think this behaviour is ok and OP is being U.

I disagree ... people ask for other people's opinions all the time, on all sorts of things. There'd be no forums like Mumsnet if they didn't.

Canyoudigityesyoucan · 31/07/2022 20:13

@LordEmsworth read up thread where video shared and verified.

I wanted to know if I was overreacting or if this was weird and grounds to end the arrangement. I asked a friend IRL who thought it was odd behaviour but not serious enough to mention!

AndAnotherTwo · 31/07/2022 20:13

Op you don't owe anyone proof and please don't post anything that identifies you or even your cleaner. Some people just get a kick out of calling random stuff fake. Ignore them.

Anyway, let your cleaner go and tell her why. This is a huge breach of privacy (apart from a waste of time whrh she should be cleaning).

OldFan · 31/07/2022 20:14

Maybe the cleaner will blame one of her 'multiple personalities' or something. (I believe a few people in this world have DID, but sadly it's also a TikTok trend some people are doing for attention.)

kateandme · 31/07/2022 20:15

Canyoudigityesyoucan · 31/07/2022 19:55

I’d like to point out it’s been more than once as she’s got two different outfits on and in one she’s sat on the end of my bed posing in mirror and in another she’s propped it up and is doing some weird acting thing in my room and putting on my hat.

One video I’d probably forgive but there’s three videos I can see and some photos made onto a gallery so I think she definitely needs to go

Oh op.please this is too easy a decision!I can’t even beleive you need to ask.this is disgusting behaviour.I wouldn’t even like friends or family doing this to me.how is this level of behaviour become acceptable with social media.jeez.
don’t out up with this op.you deserve better than this.
is there a reason you’ve not fired her on the spot?

@Canyoudigityesyoucan

I don’t know what people saw that was so convincing you wasn’t telling the truth I mean there’s much juicer subjects to get trolls going 😂

Stop proving yourself it’s not a court case who’s bloody got the right to tell you to take pics of your bedroom or post things that show your private house… get a life people and if you don’t like it go elsewhere and read threads that you’re not suspicious of.

Itsbritneybitch22 · 31/07/2022 20:16

Ooh and sack her for sure!! Do it in person though to make sure that you get the key at the same time, so she can’t copy it cos she seems capable of anything! She’s not trustworthy.

SouperNoodle · 31/07/2022 20:17

I'd fire my cleaner if they did that. It's such an invasion of privacy.

Canyoudigityesyoucan · 31/07/2022 20:19

@kateandme she last cleaned 2 weeks ago, and it was this morning I found the videos.

I was initially livid and then wanted to get opinions as good cleaners are like gold dust here. The original damage I didn’t pull her up on as jusy thought it was annoying but did tell her to be more careful with things and I thought she understood what I was getting at.

She hasn’t been in touch but I’d expect her to be in touch to sort the times for this week so hadn’t text her yet. But I’ve now jusy messaged her with the video links asking her to delete them from her TikTok and to return my key this week.

startfresh · 31/07/2022 20:19

Not troll hunting, but if you don't mind @Canyoudigityesyoucan, can I have the account in PM (not link to your house vids) I don't use TikTok but I'm so curious about this behaviour and love the psychology that makes people do this.

(Understand if you'd rather not!)
