To really want Richard Ayoade to be the 14th Doctor (Who)?

Rumours are that Jodie Whittaker is stepping down.

I haven't watched since David Tennant left but Richard Ayoade as the next Doctor would certainly have me tuning in again, AIBU?

Was just having this conversation with my DH after watching the New Years special!

I think RA would be brilliant for the role - I think he could play a genius/time lord who is also a big kid at heart really well, and also pull off the bitter sweet moments that work really well in sci fi stuff.

I really really wanted to like Jodie W as the Doctor, and I did, but the writing on both of her series’ has been absolutely dire - and I’m annoyed because will blame it on the female doctor when it was nothing to do with JW it’s because the writing is just awful.

Love him in Peep Show but I think we need a big name Doctor to give the show a boost.

Like the idea of Noel Fielding too (but still prefer Richard).

I would love Alexander Vlahos from Versailles, he is just right.

Yup, I'd be happy with that. Although, I'd be even happier with Aidan Turner!

I'm also disappointed with the last couple of series. I wasn't a big fan of the idea of a female doctor initially but I wanted her to change my mind. Sadly, the storylines have been a bit rubbish & the writing hasn't given her much to work with. It's been far too focused on the companions. I don't care about their backstories, I just want them staring open-mouthed while the Doctor has some amazing epiphany about how to get them out of an impossible situation & charges around shouting instructions at them while simultaneously explaining how this marvelous plan will save the universe & [pulls the final lever] crisis averted!

Christ it couldn’t be worse than Jodie Whitaker. She was awful.

I don’t think she gained viewers - I thought she posted the lowest 7 day viewing figures since the series relaunch in 2005.

Santiago Cabrera - mainly because I’m pretty much in the mood to watch him in anything.
