To really want Richard Ayoade to be the 14th Doctor (Who)?

Rumours are that Jodie Whittaker is stepping down.

I haven't watched since David Tennant left but Richard Ayoade as the next Doctor would certainly have me tuning in again, AIBU?

I’ve never actually watched it but I adore Richard and would certainly watch it if they cast him as the doc

ScarletUnderkill · 05/01/2021 01:04

Idris Elba

Lovethewater · 05/01/2021 01:09

I don't think Jodie Whittaker stood a chance with the abysmal script writing - lots of frenetic racing round and no real story. Haven't found it that watchable since David Tennant departed.

RubaiyatOfAnyone · 05/01/2021 01:12

Paterson Joseph could just revive his Marquis de Carabas role from Neverwhere and be Dr Who without even trying. Excellent call.

On the other hand, would Richard Ayoade play the part wearing women’s slacks? Because that could sway the vote...

ChequerBoard · 05/01/2021 01:17

As long as they don't go with Eddie Izzard as a gender fluid doctor with pronouns to be announced at the start of each episode - have heard that suggested elsewhere!

Agree that both RA and Patterson Joseph are great choices!

upthekyber · 05/01/2021 01:23

Omg! Genius I love him, he would just be brilliant. Omg please, I loved Jodie Whittaker she has been great I hope she stays a bit longer her scripts and companions have been a bit weak although to be fair much better than I thought they would be, so fair play.

Robbybobtail · 05/01/2021 01:27

I really hate doctor who but even I would watch it if RO was in it. I think he’s hilarious and also fancy him a bit.
Does anyone watch Apple and Onion? It’s the only cartoon I will actually watch with my dc’s - it’s hilarious!

Robbybobtail · 05/01/2021 01:28

*RA

Ariyon Board
Don Gilet

How rude of autocorrect. Bakare and Ayoade, if you please
Stigsmother · 05/01/2021 02:17

Oh yes RA please, Kris Marshall is also in the running ( according to the bookies) which would be......intersting

Stigsmother · 05/01/2021 02:18

FFS interesting, time for bed I thinkConfused

Hurtandupset2 · 05/01/2021 02:22

Anyone would be better than JW. Haven't watched the series since she became the Doctor. Found it too PC and virtue signalling.

Don't know who he is though, so off to Google him.

Matt Smith and David Tennant are my favourite though.

Hurtandupset2 · 05/01/2021 02:24

Recognise his pictures. Think he's got the geeky look the Dr should have. I hate the Dr. changing, but this would be the first welcome change.

ToadsThePeanutButterSnob · 05/01/2021 02:25

I feel bad for Jodie Whittaker. She is actually a good actress but has been given God awful material to work with. Even on here people are saying they can't stand her because of issues with the God awful writing.

Regardless of if she is leaving or not I just want them to sack the current writers.

ItsNotGreenItsBlue · 05/01/2021 02:26

@user1471565182 there’s nothing wrong with disliking an actor, it doesn’t make us man babies. I was excited by the prospect of a female doctor, I’ve watched the show since I was 14 and felt that Capaldi was a bit crap. Feel Whitaker is crap too. Nothing wrong with that Confused

Redcliff · 05/01/2021 02:26

Where do I vote for this amazing idea?

The sad thing is that she will be remembered as the weakest Doctor for reasons that aren't her fault.
ChestnutStuffing · 05/01/2021 03:42

Actually I think they need to take a break from making them. Maybe a substantial one. The show started to go wrong three doctors ago, part way through Matt Smith's time, and they went to great lengths to change that with new writers trying to fix the underlying problems - and they completely and totally failed.

I don't think they really understand what the underlying problems were, at least not well enough to bring back anything like the excitement and freshness that Eccleston or Tennant's doctors had. I've not seen anything to make me think they will do any better with another try, likely we'd get more of the same, just another wrapping for the same old regift.

Yes, I wasn't crazy about a female dr, however I think she is a good actress and likely would have given them good value had the scripts not been dire.

What's telling IMO is that when things started to go bad, the same problems came through no matter which actors were involved - that's the writing, or some other thing behind the scenes, not the actors.

It was interesting though that when they replaced the writing team, many of the same problems kept cropping up.

WhatWouldPhyllisCraneDo · 05/01/2021 03:47

Oooo... I think he would work. Provided they get a better writer on board!

Vellinbracelet · 05/01/2021 04:02

Agree with chestnut stuffing.
After Chris Eccleston and David Tennant it's a very hard act to follow.
I stopped watching after this.

AnneOfTeenFables · 05/01/2021 04:04

I think RA would be awful. Ditto Noel Fielding. I like them both but they're not Doctor Who.
Patterson Joseph or Adrian Lester would be good.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 05/01/2021 04:10

It's never been the same since William Hartnell left...

Sinful8 · 05/01/2021 05:07

Tbh it could do with a reboot.

All that timeless child shit killed any personal appeal the doctor had as a character
