To really want Richard Ayoade to be the 14th Doctor (Who)?

Rumours are that Jodie Whittaker is stepping down.

I haven't watched since David Tennant left but Richard Ayoade as the next Doctor would certainly have me tuning in again, AIBU?

It's never been the same since William Hartnell left...

Haha, I was going to say the same. He was a good actor and had that wizardy/absent minded professor/ mystery around him.

Is there really no one who wants to talk about MC as the (possible) new Doctor?

Have the press ever been right with their speculation about the next doctor? I can't remember if they pointed the finger at JW last time or just that fact that it would be a woman.

I think MC could carry it off but I'm not convinced they will go for another women straight off.

MC would be terrific, and IMO better than RA at delivering the more dramatic content.

I doubt any of these 'bookies' favourites' are going to audition though. The role will likely go to a relatively unknown actor, like Matt Smith was at the time.

I doubt MC will ever have to audition for a role again. They would surely be writing the new Dr specifically for her.

But I'd be surprised if the BBC could/would pay the amounts she could now command.

IMO the best docs were William Hartnell, (our absolute fave at chez corner!) Troughton, Pertwee, Tom, Colin and McCoy, but Loved Davison too.

The 'modern' ones, only Matt Smith had gravitas (could STAND Tennant and that mockney accent and talking through clenched teeth!) but apart from one or 2 stories, anything since McCoy has been weak and NOT doctor Who.
Nowadays its Doctor Woke.

the old stories could make political and ethnic points without preaching and being in your face, and most sci-fi has always had diversity in it.

I would totally start watching Dr Who again if Richard Ayoade was The Doctor.

Michaela Coel is a great actor and suitably unworldly. If the scripts they gave her were as dull and ill-considered as those they’ve given Jodie Whittaker, she would unfortunately be a terrible Doctor Who.

OMG, who said Philip Glenister? that would be GENIUS! “Fire up the Tardis” and get John Sim back as The Master. That would be worth the licence fee on its own. Definitely RA, Chris Marshall could do a sort of intergalactic Death in Paradise Doctor (would happily watch that), David Mitchell as a grumpy pernikkety Doctor and Webb as a dopey Master would be fun. I’d love to see someone like Dylan Moran or Tommy Tiernan from Derry Girls, or even Bill Bailey.

They need better quality writing first as well as less companions. I stopped caring.

If RTD would come back for a while, maybe it can be fixed.
