AIBU to say that the majority of women do not wear matching underwear daily?

I rarely wear matching sets of knickers and bras. A couple of reasons:

  1. I don't usually like the knickers that match the bras I like (I'm a 32G so it's already hard to find suitable bras that I like)
  1. I like my knickers to be comfortable and invisible under clothes (no VPL thank you very much) and those that come with my bras usually aren't.

However as most of my bras are black I usually just pair them with plain black knickers, which did not come as a set with the bra.

I don't think I'm unusual to not wear matching bra & knickers sets every day. So AIBU to think the majority of women do not wear matching bra & knickers sets on a daily basis?

I do in that the majority of my bras and knickers are black, but that's all.

sergeilavrov · 24/11/2020 15:34

I do, still horrified by a friend saying doctors would judge you if you got hit by a bus and didn’t have a matching set. I am now a mature, educated woman and know this is obviously not their concern - but a little, silly bit of me still prefers not to take the chance Blush

LittleGwyneth · 24/11/2020 15:35

I'm sorry but a black bra and black pants IS a matching set. Standards clearly far too high on this thread.

DuzzyFuck · 24/11/2020 15:36

Forgot to add to earlier reply, a predecessor of mine obviously trained DP well (or else he's just easily pleased) as he firmly believes that 'same colour' = 'matching set' so as far as he's concerned I'm almost always matching, and he always comments on the fact WinkWink

Moondust001 · 24/11/2020 15:36

They do matching sets?

keeprocking · 24/11/2020 15:38

@Imapotato

I don’t think I even own any that match 😂
The nearest to a matching set that I get is clean worn with clean!
CausingChaos2 · 24/11/2020 15:41

I wince at what I have to pay for a bra (bravissimo) so there’s no way I’m spending another £15 on a pair of knickers.

maudspellbody · 24/11/2020 15:41

I feel soooo embarrassed asking this question. Please be gentle...

I have some matching sets for 'special occasions' and I have to really take care of them and use them sparingly (usually when i know they are coming off quite quickly Wink)

The rest of the time I will tend to match colours with mismatched brands that I find in the drawer.

However, I get through so many pairs of pants because something about my vaginal ph seems to bleach the crotch on everything I wear after a couple of wears. It's apparently not hygiene or bladder related. My GP says it's normal, but I've never heard anyone else talk about it.

So I wear lots of white, where is doesn't happen, but much prefer black bras and matching black pants.

I just have to buy new pants all the time because of the bleach stains. I have tried immediately soaking them and even did pant liners for a bit, but hated them.

Am I REALLY the only freak in the world who has this issue? Should I go back to the GP?

I would love nice matching sets, but they would get ruined and are too expensive to replace because I'm a weirdo disgusting freaky vag bleacher...

Anyone else? Anyone at all.

Chocolate1984 · 24/11/2020 15:44

Just realised I haven’t worn matching underwear since 2003 - I even remember the night as it was my friend’s hen. I don’t own any underwear sets. One of my old boyfriends used to give me La Senza vouchers to buy nice underwear and I still bought random reduced bras and pants. It wasn’t quite what he had in mind.

TyroTerf · 24/11/2020 15:47

maud that's totally normal! The trick is to not give a shit or else not wear black ones for long, especially when you're, ahem, damper down below.

I love you
Jobsharenightmare · 24/11/2020 15:51

Maud that's normal yep. I voted YANBU because I am the only one of my friends who wears matching sets (I like them) but we all have similar issues with our gussets it seems!

TyroTerf · 24/11/2020 16:06

I'll never forget when Dbro first started cohabiting with a lady friend - so regularly washing a woman's underwear - and him being quietly alarmed enough by gusset-bleach to ask me if it was normal. I was glad he asked because until then I'd assumed it was just me!

If it's bothering you with your daily pants (as opposed to your sex pants) then washable cloth liners might be worth investigating - they don't bleach and they're remarkably comfortable.

MrsToothyBitch · 24/11/2020 16:10

I have one set of matching undies, bought when I was emergency replacing a couple of bras, found what I wanted on sale & bought the pants to get a deal. Wear the set on purpose occasionally... and coincidentally every so often.

I'm usually colour matching though - and try to match dark undies with dark clothes etc for laundry purposes but occasionally miss. It's not a disaster if not though. Usually means my period has kicked in. I've got x5 black, x5 white, x5 nude knickers in the same style and a black, a white and a nude bra in the same style. I've got one slightly lacier grey & white bra and a slinkier style of pants in my colour scheme too and I've had no complaints from anyone treated to the slinkier ones. They "go" with my bras even if they're not a set.

Unless I'm wearing them for a special occasion and making an especial effort, I don't worry about it, I'm usually matching "enough".

Thank you! It doesn't bother me as such as I'm single and no one bloody sees anyway.

I have just never heard it talked about before and always felt there was something wrong with me.

I think all the 'I match all the time and spend a fortune on nice undies' posts that made me wonder even more whether it's only me with this embarrassing issues.

Why don't we talk about it?

BettyDuKeiraBellisMyShero · 24/11/2020 16:11

The bleaching thing is more likely to occur around ovulation!

PattyPan · 24/11/2020 16:12

I don’t have any matching sets. I find many tops are so see through nowadays the only way not to have a visible bra outline with them is to wear a beige bra! Which I don’t match to my knickers because I draw the line at beige knickers.

DimplesToadfoot · 24/11/2020 16:13

I used to in my younger years. I wouldn't leave the house without a matching set and a full face of make up,. Now I'm a member of the M & S big knicker fan club and my bras generally black from wherever. I don't miss my younger years.

TyroTerf · 24/11/2020 16:16

Why don't we talk about it?

Hangups about the stereotypes - the idea that fannies are somehow dirty, smelly, wrong etc etc. No one wants to be the first to bring it up in case someone points and laughs.

We do it with bumcrack hair too, I've never heard a woman admit to having any in real life.

PeggyPorschen · 24/11/2020 16:23

Maud, there's a reason why manufacturer sell "daily" sanitary towels.
Some women are very uncomfortable with the wet feeling and prefer to wear a liner - you can even buy them in black.

Nothing to be ashamed of
🤷

I think it probably doesn't hurt to let downstairs breath from time to time though.

Dragonglass · 24/11/2020 16:28

You are probably right about the majority of women, but I wear a matching set every day. I just like wearing nice underwear, even if I am the only one who sees it.

jambeforeclottedcream · 24/11/2020 16:33

Thank you mn! Another one who thought gusset bleach was just a thing that happened to me. It even took me ages to realise what it was

ColdTattyWaitingForSummer · 24/11/2020 16:34

Putting my hand up that I also have the (ahem) bleaching issue with darker pants Blush you learn something new every day!

Janaih · 24/11/2020 16:40

My socks don't even match.

BarryWhiteIsMyBrother · 24/11/2020 16:41

Oh yes - I 'bleach' my dark knickers too. Gosh what are we producing that can bleach cotton???? Grin
