AIBU to say that the majority of women do not wear matching underwear daily?

I rarely wear matching sets of knickers and bras. A couple of reasons:

  1. I don't usually like the knickers that match the bras I like (I'm a 32G so it's already hard to find suitable bras that I like)
  1. I like my knickers to be comfortable and invisible under clothes (no VPL thank you very much) and those that come with my bras usually aren't.

However as most of my bras are black I usually just pair them with plain black knickers, which did not come as a set with the bra.

I don't think I'm unusual to not wear matching bra & knickers sets every day. So AIBU to think the majority of women do not wear matching bra & knickers sets on a daily basis?

My undies are all black. That's matching enough for me....

Smallsteps88 · 24/11/2020 12:26

I don’t have any matching underwear.

TheDogsMother · 24/11/2020 12:27

Warrior I guess I fall into that category too. I'd never thought about older woman vs younger woman underwear. Just if it fits really Grin

Nottherealslimshady · 24/11/2020 12:27

I dont even buy sets. I wear mostly soft bras though because my boobs are little. I have a few sexy sets that are for special occasions but I buy for comfort, as does DH.

BarbaraofSeville · 24/11/2020 12:29

Hang on a minute OP. What is the reason for this post?

Do you have a male DP complaining that you never wear 'nice matching underwear' like other women, despite him wearing nothing but greying supermarket multipack pants with the elastic wearing through?

Or are you a journalist doing 'research' that will be used as part of a 'hey guys, buy your wives nice matching underwear sets for Christmas' feature?

I think we need to know.

WizardOfAus · 24/11/2020 12:29

I always do, because it makes me smile when I’m getting dressed or undressed.

Weird.

Hm2020 · 24/11/2020 12:30

I’d have to look really hard to find a matching set Grin

Toddlerteaplease · 24/11/2020 12:30

My partner likes me to wear matching. But the matching knickers are £15 a pair which it a complete no no.

Doyoumind · 24/11/2020 12:33

I'm middle aged and have only ever owned a couple of sets of matching underwear and rarely wore the pants anyway as they were horribly uncomfortable, even when I had someone to show them off to.

TheGoogleMum · 24/11/2020 12:34

I very rarely match. I did used to know a girl who said she did wear matching sets in case she gets in an accident so paramedics don't judge her or something (yes I think its a nonsense thing to worry about)

kittykat35 · 24/11/2020 12:34

I only buy sets, I buy 3 new fitted bras a year and for each set I buy 2/3 matching underwear. I usually spend about 350. Do technically yes I'm always matching. I usually buy a black, white and nude set. This year however I bought a navy, mink and white set. The only time I wear other underwear is when I have my period and I wear plain black m&s underwear.

randomsabreuse · 24/11/2020 12:34

I'm more bothered about pants "matching" my trousers so black under black, pale under pale and bras matching top (no black bra under white top).

That said I have a couple of comfortable sets.

emmathedilemma · 24/11/2020 12:36

I don't even own any matching bras and pants! Might be able to find some that are vaguely the same colour.....

BashfulClam · 24/11/2020 12:36

I don’t Raven bother matching colours. Pick up first clean pants and bra I can find .

OverThinkingUnderDoing · 24/11/2020 12:36

I tend to wear a bra for 2-3 days and pants just once (I’m probably going to be told how minging that is). I normally match on at least one of those days.

madcatladyforever · 24/11/2020 12:37

I've never had a matching set, maybe I've worn all black as a coincidence once or twice.

EvilPea · 24/11/2020 12:40

when I had a bit of money (not by mumsnet standards! But money for me) i did.
But now it’s a whatever can’t be seen under top or dress.

I did have an ex that used to check what I was wearing wasn’t too sexy to work and check I came home in it. Hmm abusive twat

TokyoSushi · 24/11/2020 12:41

Both black is about as matching as it gets here!

TheRealJeanLouise · 24/11/2020 12:42

I remember mothers in my youth who would say always have clean underwear in case you are in an accident. Now I wonder what nurses would think of an older looking woman with young woman underwear if I was in an accident now!

I work with victims of RTAs etc. We note if there was underwear and what colour so that we know exactly what property came with the patient but trust me, I’ve never ever noticed if they’re not matching.

thegcatsmother · 24/11/2020 12:43

As my bras are somewhere north of £70 in price, I get matching knickers only if they are on sale, and dh has brought me a matching set for Christmas (at my request).

I normally wear M&S cotton knickers, so whatever is clean and comes out of the drawer. I'm bothered that they are clean, not that they match!

DuzzyFuck · 24/11/2020 12:44

Depends what you mean by matching really. I aim for the same colour most days, but an actual matching set is much less common.

I did get very frustrated in M&S on my last underwear shopping trip that they don't appear to sell cheap multi-packs of pants that even vaguely match their cheap multi-pack bras. Just because I'm skint doesn't mean that a) I want everything to be black, white or nude or b) I don't deserve to match!

SuperbGorgonzola · 24/11/2020 12:44

No, never.

I did at one point completely overhaul my underwear drawer and had only black, white, nude and a couple of nicer sets, but over the years lots of other stuff has crept in.

I should do that again really and get rid of all my patterned ones. It does make me feel a bit smarter.

OverThinkingUnderDoing · 24/11/2020 12:46

Where are people getting these £70+ bras. I always just get mine from M&S but if there’s a super swanky bra out there that I’ve been missing out on I want to know about it.

Inpersuitofhappiness · 24/11/2020 12:47

Lol no I wouldnt say it was most peoples norms to wear matching all of the time.
I certainly dont, but I'd i do, i have a little pep in my step. I feel like I'm put together for the day!

Tanfastic · 24/11/2020 12:49

Nope I don't, I just pull whatever is next out of the drawer.
