AIBU to say that the majority of women do not wear matching underwear daily?

I rarely wear matching sets of knickers and bras. A couple of reasons:

 1. I don't usually like the knickers that match the bras I like (I'm a 32G so it's already hard to find suitable bras that I like)
 1. I like my knickers to be comfortable and invisible under clothes (no VPL thank you very much) and those that come with my bras usually aren't.

However as most of my bras are black I usually just pair them with plain black knickers, which did not come as a set with the bra.

I don't think I'm unusual to not wear matching bra & knickers sets every day. So AIBU to think the majority of women do not wear matching bra & knickers sets on a daily basis?

Only when they are freshly bought. After that they go into the cycle of laundray where things get washed at a mishmash rate.
@BarryWhiteIsMyBrother YANBU!
Off-topic slightly but could you recommend any high(ish)-waisted anti-VPL pants? Please and thank you Grin
I really like the Primark ones - they are cotton, no seams on the back in the middle, and very soft. They are quite wide on the sides so they don't pinch and stay in place. They come in packs of three, in different colours/patterns and I think they are around £3. I have a few M&S lacy ones but don't like them much as they are not as soft. I also have one or two pairs from Rigby and Peller but rarely wear them as I prefer cotton to silk!

A few years ago I decided to ditch my sensible ladies M and S knickers for something more joyful and frivolous . Found a style I liked (from tesco actually, which surprised me ) that comes in a range of wonderful colours. They aren’t super expensive but are comfortable. They kept bringing out new colours which I added to the collection and now have a glorious drawer stuffed full. I have a feeling they are about to discontinue them , which is a shame but I have enough to keep me going for a while and then I will track down another range. There aren’t bras to match, which is probably just as well. But I don’t care, I am a lady of a certain age wearing glorious lacy pants.

PeggyPorschen · 24/11/2020 13:38

Matching as in "bought as a set", no.

Underwear and bras that look like they go together, yes.

It's the same with bikini, I don't know, a black bottom and a white top would look fine to me. Not sure why that would happen, but if I ended up with my underwear on show in public, the coordination wouldn't bother me.

But I have been known of wearing shocking pink vests or bras under a khaki jumper so it's personal. Grin

I really don't understand how anyone can always wear matching underwear, does that mean they always wear the same colour tops and bottoms?

TeaSoakedDisasterMagnet · 24/11/2020 13:41

I can’t remember the last time I wore a matching set to be honest. I’m not even sure that I own a matching set.

ArtichokeAardvark · 24/11/2020 13:43

God no, I get bras at bravissimo and the matching pants are like £15 a pair and often have a see through arse.
I like plain cotton briefs and I don't care if that makes me a granny

This. I'm grumpy enough that my bravissimo bras cost a small fortune, the knickers that match are nearly always skimpy and see through. I like M&S plain black bikini briefs!

ArtichokeAardvark · 24/11/2020 13:43

Whoops. Bold fail...

namechangetheworld · 24/11/2020 13:43

I wish I had the money to buy lots of matching underwear (and a body that would make it worthwhile). I have two black bras and a million pairs of black knickers. I also have one white bra and one pair or white pants, which get used rarely.

most of my bras tend to be black/white/nude/pink, because they go with everything and are easier to wash, so I can see how easily it can be done.
WeatherwaxOn · 24/11/2020 13:46

Very, very rarely. Today I have a flesh coloured bra and black knickers because they were the first things that came out of the drawer.

BarryWhiteIsMyBrother · 24/11/2020 13:47

@BarbaraofSeville

Hang on a minute OP. What is the reason for this post?

Do you have a male DP complaining that you never wear 'nice matching underwear' like other women, despite him wearing nothing but greying supermarket multipack pants with the elastic wearing through?

Or are you a journalist doing 'research' that will be used as part of a 'hey guys, buy your wives nice matching underwear sets for Christmas' feature?

I think we need to know.

Neither. I just wanted to be reassured that I'm not a slob for not wearing matching sets on a daily basis!

@HemlockStarglimmer

I just asked my husband if me wearing matching underwear was important to him. He goggled like a fish and then said he preferred me without any at all 😂
That’s pretty much my DH’s attitude to it all too.

He did raise a momentary eyebrow when he first clapped eyes on my giant pants (they were posh giant pants, but I guess the sheer size of them took him by surprise) but he is more than used to my taste in sturdy underwear now Grin

always wear matching sets. 32GG and buy a few sets twice a year from bravissimo. I find there are plenty that come with larger pants or shorts.

Alas, there is little choice of big pants with the B and C cups.
Or maybe my idea of big pants is bigger than most? It’s only really the retro ranges that reach the belly button, and no good if they don’t also cover both arse cheeks too (Agent Provocateur have form for this)!

Piwlyfbicsly · 24/11/2020 13:50

I have no time to match:) I’m happy if I can find matching socks tbh

TyroTerf · 24/11/2020 13:50

I'm with you there, Betty, the bigger the pant the better.

Titchy pants just don't make an effective substitute pocket.

PeggyPorschen · 24/11/2020 13:51

who are all these slobs? Grin

Puddingypops · 24/11/2020 13:53

Ahhh all you lot with your boobs lol, I’m really quite flat chested so the last time I wore a bra was whenever I went out and wore a posh dress that needed the shape so the padded bra came out!

nemeton · 24/11/2020 13:53

I used to. Between the ages of 18 and 35, back when I was wearing M&S, and genuinely believed I was a 34C...

After 3 pregnancies, my whole body changed shape, and I had to buy decent bf bras, meaning I got used to excellent support, and after stopping bf, I never went back to M&S and their ill-fitting nonsense. I'm a 30E, and I wear Fantasie side support or Freya bras only now. I like pure cotton for knickers, so I buy cotton boy shorts in pack of 5 or 7, all black, and wear those every day.
I'm not so bothered about matching any more.

Trut · 24/11/2020 13:58

I usually don't wear a bra. Or knickers for that matter.

Does that mean I am ‘matching’ 😃

LakieLady · 24/11/2020 13:58

I only own two matching sets, so just matching the colour is good enough for me. All my underwear is black, white or nude, so it doesn't take much thought.

I have enough trouble finding bras that fit and are comfortable without trying to find bras that have matching comfortable knickers too.

CeibaTree · 24/11/2020 14:01

Mine do match because I only wear black underwear, but not matching styles or anything like that!

MimiDaisy11 · 24/11/2020 14:04

Bras are so expensive so it's hard to have matching sets with them. I've much more pants than bras. Plus I don't care about matching.

Lweji · 24/11/2020 14:05

Only for special occasions. Maybe.

pooopypants · 24/11/2020 14:05

Black M&S granny pants + no bra.

It's a no from me!

StripyTigerTail · 24/11/2020 14:06

I am fussy about pants (comfort-wise). So no, I don't wear matching sets. I also don't wear thongs, much to DH's disappointment!

Sometimes I do, but not for very long. Wink wink swit swoo...ahem. Sorry.
