AIBU to say that the majority of women do not wear matching underwear daily?

I rarely wear matching sets of knickers and bras. A couple of reasons:

  1. I don't usually like the knickers that match the bras I like (I'm a 32G so it's already hard to find suitable bras that I like)
  1. I like my knickers to be comfortable and invisible under clothes (no VPL thank you very much) and those that come with my bras usually aren't.

However as most of my bras are black I usually just pair them with plain black knickers, which did not come as a set with the bra.

I don't think I'm unusual to not wear matching bra & knickers sets every day. So AIBU to think the majority of women do not wear matching bra & knickers sets on a daily basis?

Currently wearing white (massive) knickers and a pink nursing bra. I’m a fairly ‘unusual’ size (it’s not really but try telling high street shops that) in that I have been a 28 or 30 band with a ‘large’ cup size for my entire adult life. Bras which come in those sizes also come with £15+ pairs of knickers. I’d rather buy a £5-10 multipack!

I lived with a girl whilst at uni who wore a different matching set every day. She had over 40!!! 😱😱😱

NiceLegsShameAboutTheFace · 24/11/2020 13:19

My lingerie matches. Always. Without exception.

I have 50 or 60 matching sets, some of it ridiculously expensive.

Nobody, other than me, sees it (at present) but I just love it Smile

unebaguettepastropcuite · 24/11/2020 13:19

I always wear matching stuff. It feels good.
But then I like to have nice lingerie anyway - not sexy, just pretty and comfortable and in different colours and designs.
Sounds like I'm a bit weird...

Meowchickameowmeow · 24/11/2020 13:21

Always matching, I won't buy a bra unless I can get matching kecks.

isthismylifenow · 24/11/2020 13:21

I have patterned matching sets but I hardly wear them. What I wear most of the time, so every day basically, is a nude bra and nude undies. I wear a lot of white tshirts as nude bras are the only ones that aren't visible. And the nude undies is because I found the most amazing comfy ones with no vpl and they only had them in nude. So I'm matching. Sort of.

Purplecatshopaholic · 24/11/2020 13:23

I generally always buy it in sets and wear matching sets. Makes me feel good. However in the current climate I barely go out so haven’t really been wearing any....

VinnieVanLowe · 24/11/2020 13:23

I didn't realise I was in the minority ! I always wear matching sets. 32GG and buy a few sets twice a year from bravissimo. I find there are plenty that come with larger pants or shorts.

It does cost a bit but it makes me feel nice wearing matching ones. I spent years wearing badly fitted bras so now that I have ones that fit and look nice I guess I like having the whole set.

Yesbutno · 24/11/2020 13:24

I'm the exception to you all as I ALWAYS wear matching sets! Always have done and always will - it's just a thing with me. Working from home I'm wearing lounge wear, joggers, fluffy socks etc but my underwear is gorgeous and quite often I match the colour to my outerwear Blush- have loads of sets which range from M&S to really expensive but I've had some sets for 15+ years. The only time I don't is time of the month when I have to wear massive black pants from a multi pack but still wear a black bra!

Sewinginscotland · 24/11/2020 13:25

I always wear matching bra and underwear (except when I'm wearing period pants, I don't have a matching period bra), and have done since I was 21. But I would 100% say I am in a minority. I wear matching underwear bexause I like to, not for anyone else.

I am a 32G so have to buy from expensive bra shops but just buy expensive knickers to match.

I am working on figuring out how to make my own bras!

quarentini · 24/11/2020 13:25

I wear the same colour but not matching.
Back in the day, when I did wear matching sets, I always found I only got close to really passionate sexy when I had crap underwear on😀

Zenithbear · 24/11/2020 13:25

I'm just pleased to find a bra that fits me. I'm 30FF. If the matching knickers look nice I'll celebrate by buying 3 pairs. Otherwise same colour will do.

Yesyoudoknowme · 24/11/2020 13:26

The bras I have to buy (think HUGE) never come with matching knickers. They come in black, white and beige. I have black and white knickers (and a few grey ones from when DS did the washing) so I do my best with what I've got.

TyroTerf · 24/11/2020 13:27

I favour a granny-pants/no-bra combo so my only matching set is what's known in the trade as "starkers".

Mix 'n' matching on the socks doesn't half get me some funny looks though...

HemlockStarglimmer · 24/11/2020 13:27

I just asked my husband if me wearing matching underwear was important to him. He goggled like a fish and then said he preferred me without any at all 😂

Hesnotlocal · 24/11/2020 13:27

Every few years I decide that I will become a 'proper, grown-up woman' and buy a couple of sets of matching underwear (plus facecreams/'grown-up' shoes/dresses/posh perfume etc) with firm resolve to always wear them an be a sophisticated lady.

The resolve never lasts more than a few weeks before I am once again in my comfy unmatching undies with no skincare regime etc.

I am now nearly 50 so I think I'm giving up on the idea now!

Graciebobcat · 24/11/2020 13:31

I don't wear matching underwear as I like plain cotton pants but a lacey bra. Lacey pants are itchy. If I ever find plain bras that match the pants which fit as well as TU Comfort Lace then I may have matching underwear one day, but until then I don't.

Reading this, I have realised that I am unlikely to every achieve my ambition to become a ‘fancy lady’ (ie. ‘proper, grown-up woman’) and should probably give up now (in my late 20s) 😂

I could save myself a fortune on periodic splurges on makeup (that gets worn a handful of times before living in a makeup bag unused for five years), face creams, hair care regimes, and shoes that aren’t trainers, flip flops or wellies 😂

Graciebobcat · 24/11/2020 13:32

I wish there would be plain bra sets that fitted me and matched the plain cotton pants sets though that M&S do.

VioletCharlotte · 24/11/2020 13:33

When I was younger I wouldn't have left the house without matching underwear. Nowadays I don't even own any matching underwear, just multi packs of Sainsbury's knickers. I've even given up on bras and just wear crop tops instead.

lazyarse123 · 24/11/2020 13:33

I'm just happy if I can find a bra to fit that doesn't cost the earth 44dd. Mind you it comes off before my shoes do most days.

They’re the best bras ever, aren’t they?
GettingAwayWithIt · 24/11/2020 13:34

I’m a bit obsessive about wearing matching sets! I’ve often seen a bra that I like but there’s no matching knickers so I’ve not bought it. I started when I was in my late teens/early 20s and found it made me feel a bit more confident about my figure at a time when I hated what I looked like. It’s stuck and I now can’t stop Grin

Ahh that's made me laugh and I needed that! Thanks :o
WhenTwoBecomeThree · 24/11/2020 13:36

Don't even think I own a matching set. DP said DD's head coming out, I think we're way past matching sets🤣

WindblowingSW · 24/11/2020 13:36

God no.

My ex once brought me a matching set for "my birthday present" in which he guessed the bra and pant size and thought I would like it for MY birthday. Err no -not my taste, it didn't fit and wasn't the right size and was for him not me. Think crotchless pants etc

Go and jump my friend- he was told (very nicely). He did have a strop and I offered to let me wear it himself if he felt that strongly about it.
