AIBU to say that the majority of women do not wear matching underwear daily?

I rarely wear matching sets of knickers and bras. A couple of reasons:

  1. I don't usually like the knickers that match the bras I like (I'm a 32G so it's already hard to find suitable bras that I like)
  1. I like my knickers to be comfortable and invisible under clothes (no VPL thank you very much) and those that come with my bras usually aren't.

However as most of my bras are black I usually just pair them with plain black knickers, which did not come as a set with the bra.

I don't think I'm unusual to not wear matching bra & knickers sets every day. So AIBU to think the majority of women do not wear matching bra & knickers sets on a daily basis?

I'm the same, funny enough today's are matching but I'll wear bras more than one day (shhh) so tomorrow will be random knickers, perhaps from a set where the bra underwire broke through or was too small

Twinkie01 · 24/11/2020 12:49

I wear a sports bra and no knickers everyday as have to wear gym leggings for work. I've yet to find knickers as comfortable as no knickers under gym leggings.

If I go out I do wear a matching set and spend half my time pulling the knickers out of my bottom!

I don't know anyone who wears posh matching sets everyday.

Doublechins · 24/11/2020 12:51

I don't think I own matching underwear apart from my 'special underwear' 😂

BumDiggyDiggyDiggyBumDiggyBum · 24/11/2020 12:52

I don’t just now, only because I had a breast reduction in July that I got a horrific infection from, so still very scarred and scared of underwire. Right now I’m still in comfy bralettes.

I also don’t wear thongs because I have numerous RV fistulas so always need to have a pad on, the thong ones are shit. And nice lacy knickers the pad always shows through, so it’s big comfies for me.

I will be wearing matching nice sets soon though, as soon as the tits have healed enough. Fuck paying 7.5k to put them in granny bras. And fuck it if the pads can be seen through the knickers, no one can see them anyway!

Northeastmum93 · 24/11/2020 12:53

Very rare I do matching and it’s usual a lucky grab in the knicker draw. I always feel like I really have my shit together when I wear matching though😂

Fuckitsstillraining · 24/11/2020 12:59

This made me smile, I met my husband 20 years ago when I was 30, I always wore beautiful matching sets, put as much money and thought into them as my outfit, I was a size 10/34c and loved my underwear as did he did!! Now I'm a size 14 (must try do something about that but not until after I've eaten these beautiful grilled smokey streaky rashers) and I wear a bra as little as possible and knickers are comfy and not a string that will get lost between the cheeks of my fat arse. Found a box of abandoned underwear in the attic recently, I started to add up what they would have cost, wish I had the same disposable income now.

baubled · 24/11/2020 13:00

I wish I had the money to buy beautiful matching sets (beautiful = knickers that I like as much as the bra), it would make me feel happy but as it stands, it's whatever knickers I pull out and whichever colour bra goes with my outfit!

emilybrontescorsett · 24/11/2020 13:01

Nah.
I have enough trouble finding a decent bra that fits never mind one with matching knickers.
The last ‘ nice’ knickers I bought to go with a new white bra ended up a fetching shitty grey colour when dh washed them with some black clothes.
I find most matching sets are made from scratchy polyester and ride up my arse showing VPL so it’s a no from me.

WaxOnFeckOff · 24/11/2020 13:02

No matching here and not always colour either as I'm more likely to wear a light coloured top so bras tend to be white/skin tone and bottoms will generally be dark or jeans so will mostly be black or navy or whatever. If they match it is either accidental or because I'm wearing a dark top.

VinylDetective · 24/11/2020 13:03

@TokyoSushi

Both black is about as matching as it gets here!
Same here. I have black, white and nude bras with a collection of knickers in the same colours. They’re always the same colour.
YetAnotherSpartacus · 24/11/2020 13:06

What's a bra?

CakeRequired · 24/11/2020 13:07

I like it when the colour matches, not so bothered about a proper matching set but it's nice. It just makes me feel pretty. Smile

Stillgoings · 24/11/2020 13:08

No. I only ever wear big black cotton M&S pants these days.

PrtScn · 24/11/2020 13:08

I didn’t even know this was a thing. I just get a multi pack of granny knickers and wear whatever bra I find most comfortable. Usually the plain no frilly ones.

Fizbosshoes · 24/11/2020 13:09

I dont think I've ever worn a matching set... I didnt get the memo I was expected to?

Unihorn · 24/11/2020 13:10

I also don't own any matching sets. I have two bras that I rotate that are just plain black, and I own a nude one on the rare occasion I wear anything other than a t-shirt or shirt for work. It would never even occur to me to buy matching sets.

LooneyLovefood · 24/11/2020 13:11

I don't own any matching underwear - haven't for years. I have a handful of bras and my pants are always from a supermarket's multipack. It does make me smile if I accidentally pick up a bra and pants that look even slightly colour coordinated. Life is too short to worry about your underwear matching!

calamityjam · 24/11/2020 13:11

I'm single now so don't really care what underwear I wear tbh, having said that, I did notice the other day that my knickers are looking a bit too tatty even for me. Should I buy a matching set just in case?

IntermittentParps · 24/11/2020 13:12

Matching ones tend to come in horrid man-made fabrics IME.
I like bold coloured/printed, cotton knickers from the likes of Gap and Bonds, but favour lightweight sheer bras from Calvin Klein and Stella McCartney. They do not match each other in any way, so I purposely clash them instead!

Tricerapops · 24/11/2020 13:12

@readingismycardio

I'm weird, I only wear matching sets and I wash my bra after a single use, I always believe it's the same as every other piece of clothing. The only item I don't wash after every use is jeans. I love matching sets, they make me happy and "put together"Grin
This 👆🏻for me too
LoveMyKidsAndCats · 24/11/2020 13:12

YANBU I've put on weight and only have 2 bras that comfortably fit me and no matching undies for either.

JurassicParkAha · 24/11/2020 13:14

I only wear matching sets if I know I'm going to be showing them to someone.

As @Gancanny says. My regular underwear I buy in packs of pants, and separate bras. Matching sets only for special occassions - and sometimes for big presentations or meetings just so I feel more put together (noone will be seeing it then!).

Misskittyfantastico85 · 24/11/2020 13:15

I remember as a early 20 something going to a spa with an older friend, as we were getting changed I noticed she was matching and remember asking in a jokey way if it was for my benefit. She then replied with 'I always match, dont you?' At the time I didnt, but that evening my underwear drawer had a complete overhaul and now I wont leave the house unless I'm matching. I will leave the house without makeup, but not without matching underwear. I find it gives me a boost of confidence. I get that not everyone wants to though and it's a case of I'll do me and you do you.

BettyDuKeiraBellisMyShero · 24/11/2020 13:15

I like massive pants that come up to my belly button (1950s style!) but they are rarely available with matching bras, so I try and assemble things to look like sets on the rare occasion that I care.

Mostly, it’s picking for comfort or stuff that works with the outer layer, rather than how the under bits look together.

LD22020 · 24/11/2020 13:17

I don't feel like I own any matching sets
