Aaagr.

It started with buffalo cauliflower wings😔
There are no wings on cauli! It doesn't remotely taste like wings either! It's BUFFALO CAULIFLOWER BITES. (Which are really nice btw)

Then the Jackfruit Pulled Pork.
No. There is NO pork.
It's "pulled jackfruit" if anything. Liers.

And to top it off... Chickpe tuna. The hell, people😔 The hell... It hasn't even passed tuna anywhere in its existence.
It's CHICKPEA spread or something. No tuna. Bad people.

Liessssss. Why can't food be just called what it is🤦 There is just no need for all them liessssssssss.

So true, milk comes from animals, cheese is made from milk.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 22/11/2020 17:23

Sad times. Full of liessss.

It's actually interesting that it's allowed like this. The EU stepped in number of times demanding change of product name because it could imply it's something different. 🤔

You're not alone, OP. I shout at the television when they advertise things like Quorn chicken nuggets - it's not chicken! It might be chicken flavour, or even savoury, but it's not chicken. [Actually I think these have been renamed.]

Okay, same argument with Asda meat-free piri piri chicken burgers. They are not chicken. Asda meat-free meatballs - they are not meat, just balls!

And why would a vegetarian want something that reminds them of animal based food?

sparepantsandtoothbrush · 22/11/2020 17:27

Watermelon tuna steak anyone? It's just a slice of warm fucking watermelon!!

I'm with you OP

SchrodingersImmigrant · 22/11/2020 17:27

Yes. They could be "lentil balls" or whatever they are actually made off. And nuggets the same. It honestly should be standard.

Re the vegetarians. As I understand lots of people don't eat meat for ethical reasons rather than texture, so I get the missing it. Fine, have whatever is similar, but no lies in names!
Liessssssss

Blasphemy!

@sparepantsandtoothbrush - and a certain restaurant charges a bleeding fortune for said slice of warm watermelon as well.

Seeingadistance · 22/11/2020 17:28

Buffalo don’t have wings either.

BecomeStronger · 22/11/2020 17:29

Yessss. I don't object to vegetarians or vegetarian food, I often choose the vegetarian option, but call it what it is.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 22/11/2020 17:31

@Seeingadistance

Buffalo don’t have wings either.
That's the sauce though. Like soy wings/honey wings etc. If the actual wings were dipped in cauliflower and buffalo sauce batter before cooking, then it would be buffalo cauliflower wings. But like this.... Liesssss

It's odd, isn't it?

Anyone that doesn't eat meat doesn't need to eat something trying to identify in name only as meat.

"Linda McCartney's Vegetarian Chicken Bucket"

Does it contain a chicken that doesn't eat meat? Huh? Well does it?

"Linda McCartney's Vegetarian Pulled Pork Bao Bun Meal Kit"

Why bother with the "pulled pork" bit!? You big fat liar. What's wrong with "Linda McCartney's Vegetarian Bao Bun Meal Kit"? Well? Can't you handle the truth?!!!

CherryValanc · 22/11/2020 17:37

@Seeingadistance

Buffalo don’t have wings either.
Get this - it's not even Buffalo.

The whole blooming food industry is at it.

Ylvamoon · 22/11/2020 17:38

I totally understand you! I will never but those products. Why can't chick peas, jackfruit & co be tasty in their own right?

I blame all the nuevo vegans / vegetarians that the processed industries industry is brainwashing! So 12months ago, you enjoyed something- rather - meaty, and voila he's your feel good something - rather - non meaty replacement.

thistimelastweek · 22/11/2020 17:40

It's only food my precious.

Not like it's a magic ring.

Ylvamoon · 22/11/2020 17:40

Grrr should read: processed food industry

SirGawain · 22/11/2020 17:42

By definition you are being unreasonable to be unreasonably angry about anything.

UncleBunclesHouse · 22/11/2020 17:43

@Ylvamoon this. It’s trendy and just as misguided in some ways as the whole low-fat misrepresentation of food circa 1990s that’s actually full of crap and sugar but it said low-fat so you thought you were terribly virtuous eating it.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 22/11/2020 17:44

@thistimelastweek

gasp "Only food"! faints

😂 Well unless you have onion rings

DuesToTheDirt · 22/11/2020 17:44

Asda meat-free piri piri chicken burgers...

As a vegetarian who doesn't like eating fake meat, I appreciate this kind of labelling as I know what yo avoid. In fact, all I need to read is "meat-free" and I know it's fake meat and to be avoided.

Janaih · 22/11/2020 17:46

I saw cauliflower steaks on a menu once! Shock

Aquamarine1029 · 22/11/2020 17:46

Veggie burger. It's not a burger, it's a fucking vegetable sandwich.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 22/11/2020 17:47

@Janaih

I saw cauliflower steaks on a menu once! Shock
Have you seen the M&S ones? Now that was not just a cauliflower steak. That was an M&S cauliflower steak with M&S price tag lol
OP posts:
Veterinari · 22/11/2020 17:48

Peanut butter isn't butter
Bombay duck isn't duck
Albany Beef isn't beef
Cats tongues are biscuits

It happens across all types of food - why is it just vegetarian food labels you have a problem with @SchrodingersImmigrant ?

SchrodingersImmigrant · 22/11/2020 17:51

These were ones I encountered yesterday and today in my search for inspiration. I agree. The lies are everywhere. Though neither of the ones you name tries to pretend it is what the name says. Liesssssssssssssss.

Also. Omg cat tongues I had no idea people know it here!

OP posts:
ScotchBunnet · 22/11/2020 17:51

It’s because they’re reminiscent of those things without actually being them. Very few people lack the intellectual capacity to understand that ‘quorn crispy nuggets’ (they aren’t called chicken nuggets) aren’t made from chicken, so honestly why is it an issue?
