Aaagr.

It started with buffalo cauliflower wings😔
There are no wings on cauli! It doesn't remotely taste like wings either! It's BUFFALO CAULIFLOWER BITES. (Which are really nice btw)

Then the Jackfruit Pulled Pork.
No. There is NO pork.
It's "pulled jackfruit" if anything. Liers.

And to top it off... Chickpe tuna. The hell, people😔 The hell... It hasn't even passed tuna anywhere in its existence.
It's CHICKPEA spread or something. No tuna. Bad people.

Liessssss. Why can't food be just called what it is🤦 There is just no need for all them liessssssssss.
@Blibbyblobby who on EARTH is being conned into eating plant based when they think they are getting meat??
In Burger King and Macdonald etc the plant based burgers are very clearly labelled. They are everywhere. I don't think anyone has ever ordered a plant based meal thinking they were getting meat.
"who on EARTH is being conned into eating plant based when they think they are getting meat?"

Whoa, calm down there veggie cowboy, you've misunderstood.

I was replying to this "if they encourage people to try vegan/vegetarian over a meat option then even carnivores should recognise that as a Good Thing" to say the experience is more likely to put someone off ordering veggie/vegan food in future.

Not conned into thinking it IS meat, conned into thinking it's going to be equivalent when it isn't.

PoorMansPaulaRadcliffe · 22/11/2020 20:07

@slashlover

Once I ordered a salad in a restaurant and in the description amongst the list of ingredients it said ‘cauliflower cous cous’ - well you can see where this is going. I was so pissed off when my salad came with ZERO CARBS in it that I demanded they bring me a side of actual cous cous and they said that they had no cous cous in the kitchen. WTAF?

So they listed the ingredients and you were annoyed when they gave you a salad with those ingredients?

Exactly. I'd think cauliflower cous cous meant something resembling cous cous made from caulis. Which are, btw, carbs.
Walkaround · 22/11/2020 20:07

YABU - you said so yourself. You are unreasonably angry. 😝

VulvaPerson · 22/11/2020 20:07

I don't really understand why some places name veggie options after meat products, at all.

CodenameVillanelle · 22/11/2020 20:09

@keeprocking

I really don't understand why if one is vegetarian/vegan why one wants food names after various meats.
Try! Lots of vegans/vegetarians like meat and miss it and having meat style meals makes it easier for them not to eat meat. Why is that so hard to grasp?
SchrodingersImmigrant · 22/11/2020 20:10

We are covering lots of ground here! Nice.

I think we can all agree though, that "chickpea tuna" aka chickpea spread can push anyone over the cliff of sanity😂

Terry's Chocolate Orange, not fruit apparently, Terry lied.

Blibbyblobby · 22/11/2020 20:11

@trixiebelden77

There are people who’ve been ‘conned’ into eating a vegie burger thinking it was beef? Really?

I fear that anyone that stupid perhaps has bigger concerns.

As do people who don't read posts properly Grin

It has orange oil😁

I spotted "vegan smoked salmon" in Sainsbury's. And "vegan chicken fillets". They are either vegan or salmon/chicken, they can't be both.

Doilooklikeatourist · 22/11/2020 20:17

@trixiebelden77

Goodness doilooklikeatourist you must be overcome with rage and confusion when presented with a Thai curry featuring coconut milk.
No, because as I understand it , when you open a coconut , fluid come out which is coconut milk Not the same with soy , rice or almonds which is why I didn't mention coconut
superram · 22/11/2020 20:19

Vegan leather shoes-erm no!

pressedclay · 22/11/2020 20:20

I can't get worked up about this and anyone who does should get a life.

hellofromthelma · 22/11/2020 20:20

@PronkWine

Jessica Simpson probably has a lot to say on this.
😁
greyhills · 22/11/2020 20:25

And why would a vegetarian want something that reminds them of animal based food?

This has often puzzled me too.

invalidnickname01 · 22/11/2020 20:25

I'm amazed at the things people get angry about.
If veggie alternatives shouldn't be called sausage or burger anymore because it's not descriptive enough for some, maybe they would like to see a re brand of "Richmond,mangled pig lips, grissle and arseholes wrapped in skin?"

Just keep away from the veggie aisle in which ever supermarket you go to Karen, or send an adult to do the shopping for you?

SchrodingersImmigrant · 22/11/2020 20:27

"Richmond,mangled pig lips, grissle and arseholes wrapped in skin?"
Should be intestine. Skin is too thick and tough.

As should people who are so not "worked up" about something they have to post about how not "worked up" about it they are
CrazyCatLazy · 22/11/2020 20:32

Genuine question, is it just the veggie/vegan names that bother you or all ‘misnames’?

I’ve just noticed m&s are doing chicken doughnuts and another shop (can’t remember where) advertised prawn lollipops earlier. Coconut milk, milk by definition is from a mammal’s mammary gland - does this also annoy you?

lovepickledlimes · 22/11/2020 20:32

@greyhills some people go vegan as a ethical choice. They could very well have enjoyed the none vegan foods and would miss them. This is one way they can still have their favourite foods without in their mind harming an animal

Exactly, not much to grasp I wouldn’t have thought.

donquixotedelamancha · 22/11/2020 20:35

No problem with describing a veggie burger as a veggie burger, a bean burger as a bean burger. A beef burger is a burger made from beef. A hamburger is a burger often made from beef, now there’s a misdescription.
A burger is just a description of the shape.

Nope. A hamburg steak is a beef steak in the style originated in Hamburg- minced. Hamburger and Burger and just abbreviations of that.

If we are being pedantic with our culinary nomenclature then chicken burgers are almost as wrong as veggie burgers.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 22/11/2020 20:36

chicken doughnuts a chicken ina shape of a dougnut in a dougnut dough is a chicken doughnut.
prawn lollipops prawn on a stick. That's a lollipop. Stuff on a stick.
Coconut milk I am for some reason unsure about this one🤔 I know it's wrong, but for some reason it's fine in my head.

This puzzles you because you eat animals
