AIBU to wonder why people are putting up their Xmas decorations so early this year?

Is this spurred on by a Facebook movement or are people just randomly putting their trees up in mid November?

Why not? Ours went up today, it's been a crappy year and toddler DD kept asking for it......

BIWI · 15/11/2020 17:52

Because people are trying to make the best of a shit year, and the fact that we're in lockdown - it's about trying to make things cheerful and happy!

Poorpigletsrevenge · 15/11/2020 17:53

Post brought on by seeing 3 different people with their trees up in Facebook pictures.

Not got mine up yet but, I love seeing the early ones up.

BashfulClam · 15/11/2020 17:54

We beef a bit of cheer and really It’s up to others what they do. They aren’t asking you to help etc so let them get on with it.

wendz86 · 15/11/2020 17:55

People are having a rubbish year and are bored at home, seems reason enough to me.

TinyGhost · 15/11/2020 17:55

It’s something to do I suppose.

I noticed that shops didn’t have much Halloween stuff in October, their seasonal stuff was all Christmas related.

Whenwillow · 15/11/2020 17:55

I think it's probably to make Christmas feel special after a difficult year. I haven't yet, and won't till a week or so before Christmas, but it doesn't surprise me at all.

Wouldn't be surprised at a Facebook/Instagram movement either to be honest. Not my thing, but why not?

Poorpigletsrevenge · 15/11/2020 17:55

@bashfulClam I was asking if this is part of a ‘thing’ like the clapping was, not passing judgment.

I’ve never seen so many decs up so early.

Crap year, people feel they need cheering up?

devildeepbluesea · 15/11/2020 17:56

I suppose it's to cheer themselves up.

Personally I'd be sick of the sight by the 1st of December so mine won't go up before the 11th of December, as usual.

NoGoodPunsLeft · 15/11/2020 17:56

We're doing them next week, couple of weeks early mainly for something to do one day!

EternalOptimist7 · 15/11/2020 17:57

This year has been like no other so I reckon if people want a bit of sparkle, let them put their decs up early. Personally I want to wait until December.

Poorpigletsrevenge · 15/11/2020 17:57

@TinyGhost yes! I went to TKMaxx 2 weeks before Halloween abs nothing! It was all Xmas stuff.

Theres a couple in my street. Think they just want something cheerful as basically everything is a bit grim this year

FourTeaFallOut · 15/11/2020 17:57

I couldn't be doing with it yet but the neighbour has decorated the tree outside and it looks very cheerful. Why is it bothering you, op?

Otamot · 15/11/2020 17:57

Because we want to.

Bourbonbiccy · 15/11/2020 17:58

It's not a Facebook thing as I'm not on Facebook and put ours up the day after bonfire night.

We just fancied going early, some of my neighbours have followed, a bit of festive joy.

blue25 · 15/11/2020 17:58

It’s ridiculous. How bored can people be? Surely they have other things to keep them amused.

lunar1 · 15/11/2020 17:59

Because it's a shitty year, we are in lockdown, everything is closed and cancelled. It passed some time decorating and it's fun for the children. I've also opened the tin of quality streets 🤣

PrincessNutNut · 15/11/2020 17:59

Because it's been a shit year and it makes some people feel a bit better.

OrigamiPenguinArmy · 15/11/2020 18:00

Definitely to cheer themselves up. I’d hate to have the full lot up this early, but I’m considering putting some lights in the windows. I’m not religious but I feel we really need the light in the darkness this year.

moronseverywhere1 · 15/11/2020 18:01

My husband is deploying next week for several months so will be away for Christmas, we decided to do it before he goes for the kids, first Xmas in this house (coughs in reality I refused to be left with yet another thing to do by myself Grin)

If it wasn't for that we'd be December, I'm quite embarrassed about it, hoping to bump into the (new) neighbours to explain our actions!

DappledThings · 15/11/2020 18:01

I'd be pissed off with them by the time Christmas arrived if I put them up now. But each time to their own!

Lindy2 · 15/11/2020 18:02

Because most people feel pretty miserable even if they are managing ok on a day to day basis.

Anything that is a bit of fun helps people feel a little better.
