AIBU to wonder why people are putting up their Xmas decorations so early this year?

Is this spurred on by a Facebook movement or are people just randomly putting their trees up in mid November?

There is a few around us and it was lovely walking back with ds2 on Friday night from the doctors. He had felt a bit fed up and they made him really happy. I was quite grateful to the people who put them up.

We won't but only because both DC birthdays are in November and the sofa is being taken away 1st dec so it doesn't work for us.

Saying that it felt nice today to put up decoratiosnetc for ds1 birthday. It's been a tough year , a little bit if celebration is lovely.

CakeRequired · 15/11/2020 18:40

It's been a shit year. I'm treating us to almost whatever we want food wise right now, like cakes, chocolate etc. Because fuck it, why not? It's a shit year and I've given up on caring about it.

MiriamMargo · 15/11/2020 18:41

Its ridiculous, november is not christmas, its as simple as that!!

Feministicon · 15/11/2020 18:41

My Sis put hers up in September

QuacksInTheDark · 15/11/2020 18:41

People want something to look forward to. A bit of hope and cheer in 2020. Good on them.

JudithShakespeare · 15/11/2020 18:42

Why is it bothering you, op?

It's not bothering her, she's just bloody asking!

I think putting tree & decorations up in the middle of December makes Christmas less special. Doesn't bother me, it's just what I think.

PoppyOppy · 15/11/2020 18:42

If it makes people happier to have a bit of fun decor and sparkle then go for it.

Feministicon · 15/11/2020 18:43

Don’t give up on caring about yourself though Flowers
StealthPolarBear · 15/11/2020 18:44

Makes this year seem a little closer to the end
Plus there has been a lot of talk about Christmas, mixing rules, getting students home. So it feels nearer than it is.

Feministicon · 15/11/2020 18:45

Yanbu, it is unusual but these are unusual times I don’t think it’s social media driven just 2020 driven. I’m saving mine til December as I think it’ll mean more to my family then but if it makes you happy then twinkle away Smile

huuskymam · 15/11/2020 18:45

I'm usually a stickler for decorations not going up before 6th Dec. But this year I would gladly have put them up by now, but I have to buy them first 🙄🙄 It's been a horrible year for everyone, I don't see anything wrong with it

Cosmos45 · 15/11/2020 18:46

Because life is so shit at the moment we all need just a little bit extra cheer in our lives.. if that's a few sparkly lights and a pretty tree I can understand. I too will be doing mine this week, never really bothered too much before until december but this year, hell we need any help we can get.

islockdownoveryet · 15/11/2020 18:47

@Feministicon

My Sis put hers up in September
There is always one who goes that one step further . Hmm
Feministicon · 15/11/2020 18:49

😂😂 @islockdownoveryet, her DD asked her to so she put it up for her as she’s been having a hard time so I think she should be let off.

moronseverywhere1 · 15/11/2020 18:49

I popped to The Range today, the Christmas section was HEAVING with people, I quite like a dawdle through it when going in, couldn't believe how many people were shopping for decorations, huge queue to get in as I left too. (No judgement as I bought a Christmas wreath alongside some other equally essential items 😬)

bluebluezoo · 15/11/2020 18:49

Because there’s fuck all else to do.

I hate christmas decs but seriously thinking about it just to get the teens out of their bedrooms.

PoppyOppy · 15/11/2020 18:50

My tree goes up on Christmas eve. It cheers me up because something very sad happened to me twice on Christmas eve and it gives me something to look forward to.

islockdownoveryet · 15/11/2020 18:52

Well if it makes them happy but 3 months before the day Hmm.

@MiriamMargo

And other years I would say that but not this year.

Most people have had to go without holidays. Lots have lost jobs. Many have lost their home. It is looking more and more unlikely that we will be able to have Christmas with our loved ones.

I have never had a Christmas without my parents in my 66 years. I doubt very much that will happen this year. I love Christmas and decorations cheer me up

Feministicon · 15/11/2020 18:54

We’ve had a few deaths so I just can’t get aerated about it, yes it’s unusual but who does it hurt.

LilacPebbles · 15/11/2020 18:54

Because I decided it's Christmas time in this household. I'm not on FB but I have noticed some people are ready for Christmas earlier than they usually are. Most I've spoken to have finished their shopping. Some are sending out cards already.
It's been shit. Why not.

Tomcullenisahero · 15/11/2020 18:55

In our area there really isn't that many. I have seen a few houses with their lights and trees up but it's the same people who put their decorations up early every year. It's very cheerySmile

GlennRheeismyfavourite · 15/11/2020 18:55

I'll be doing the majority of decorations early this year as I'm due on 2nd December and want to have the house sorted before the baby comes but even I think it's still too early. Won't do the tree yet as it's real!

Roselilly36 · 15/11/2020 18:59

Ours went up on Friday, never before have we had decs up so early, we are usually first weekend in December, we are also moving house, so when we got the decs out we thought put them up so they didn’t mixed up with everything we are giving away or tipping. And yes, as a previous poster said, rules don’t apply this year, anything goes.

Cam2020 · 15/11/2020 19:00

Just to cheer themselves up. Its not cheering me up though, my daughter keeps crying because we don't have ours up everytime she sees houses all lit up like the Griswalds'.
