To worry about my children having the same birthday month?

Sounds nuts but after some opinions as bit delicate to ask friends...

I had a miscarriage two months ago and obviously very keen to conceive again soon. Last month didn't work for us, so here we are. Problem is, if I conceive this month we would be due in August, which is the same month as my first was born.

Realise this is completely hypothetical as don't even know if I will conceive this month but hopefully the info above will make it a bit clearer about why I'm reluctant to skip a month.

Am I selfish to consider it this month? Do you have children with birthdays close together and how is it?

Thanks for reading x

Mine and my brother's birthdays are 12 days apart (but in separate months) and it was never an issue that I recall

My nephews have birthdays 8 days apart and I'm not aware of it causing any problems

tofuschnitzel · 12/11/2020 15:33

I don't think you need to worry about it. In my immediate family there are four birthdays in one month, and everyone gets presents and attention as usual. Please don't worry about it.

Soundbyte · 12/11/2020 15:33

I’ve got two kids with birthdays two days apart, next week. I’ve another two who are two weeks apart, the first of which falls 3 weeks after my eldest. It’s not a problem honestly, although I would prefer the two November dates to be a bit further away from Christmas!

Twizbe · 12/11/2020 15:35

My two have their birthdays 10 days apart (though one is the end of the month the other the start of the next) they were actually due on the same day🤦‍♀️

So far no issue, but we've only had one birthday so far.

BorisandHarriet · 12/11/2020 15:35

My kids birthdays are all within six weeks of each other. I quite like it.

cheesecake864 · 12/11/2020 15:35

It's not an issue and my birthday and siblings are all in the same month.

Cabinfever10 · 12/11/2020 15:36

My cousin has 2 dc their 22 and 24 of December. It's a very expensive month for them but other than that no real problem

artisanparsnips · 12/11/2020 15:37

My two brothers and I have birthdays on successive days. I've always thought it was funny rather than a problem.

TheGriffle · 12/11/2020 15:37

Not an issue here, DD’s birthdays are 5 days apart. Dh was born on his sisters 3rd birthday and they’ve never had a problem either.

lyralalala · 12/11/2020 15:37

Five of my six have birthdays within 7 weeks of each other.

It's only a problem if families focus on one birthday and do much less for the other. As long as there is always the same treatment in terms of fuss it doesn't make any difference.

I had a friend in school whose brithday was 3 days after her brother's. That was an issue, but that was because her birthday was, for her family, an afterthought. They always went for a meal on his birthday to a place of his choosing and pretended it was joint. That's the only time it's an issue.

Guardsman18 · 12/11/2020 15:37

I wouldn't worry about it tbh. A friend of mine has 6 dcs and 5 are May and one in June.
When she saw her Aunt in the May of one year and was not pregnant, aunt said - Oh, you get through September then!

lazylump72 · 12/11/2020 15:40

Dont give it a second thought OP the children will be their own people with their own bdays! November is an expensive month for us with dh and ds and dd all within 4 days!!! Bad planning maybe but I wouldnt swap them!

ItchyKondera · 12/11/2020 15:40

me, my brother, my daughter, my son, my sister in law, my mum and my dog all have birthdays within a 1 month period. :)

apart from eating too much cake that month, its fine!

PenCreed · 12/11/2020 15:40

I have a twin, so this feels like a complete non-issue to me. You'll have to suffer through two different parties close together when they're little though!

Musicalmistress · 12/11/2020 15:43

My friend & her oldest brother have birthdays the same day, her middle brother just a few days later - never been an issue.

InTheLongGrass · 12/11/2020 15:43

It makes for an expensive month, but we've not had any issues - 3 days apart here.
There is usually an excess of cake, but for several years we had shared parties, which worked really well, and cut the cost.

I wouldn't worry about it. If it happens, it happens.

Herbertzlinger · 12/11/2020 15:43

I was quite pleased when my DS was due 2 months after my DD's birthday, I thought it was nice spacing. And then he arrived 9 weeks early, 2 days before my DD's. Its not particularly a problem, just takes organisation to make sure each day is special is all. I'm always shattered afterwards though! The kids don't care

SeaKingdom · 12/11/2020 15:44

Me and my sister are exactly two years and a week apart. It has never been an issue. A week is a long time when you are little.

TulipsTwoLips · 12/11/2020 15:45

My brother and I are 4 days apart. It was never a problem growing up. If anything it probably made it easier for people to remember. There was never any jealousy on the other person's birthday either as our own was so close. We had our own parties and own presents.

BalloonDinosaur · 12/11/2020 15:45

My friend has 2 DC born on the same day 3 years apart, just before Christmas. They haven't had any issues so far, but DC are both quite young still. They will however turn 18 and 21 on the same day Grin

lanbro · 12/11/2020 15:46

4 birthdays on the exact same day in my family, never noticed an issue...my 2 are almost exactly 6 months apart but my nephew had the worst, imo, 2 days before Christmas!

^^this. Tulips Are you me?
WilheldivaHater · 12/11/2020 15:47

My best friend has three dc with the same birthday month. It's quite an expensive month for them but she just makes sure to buy early and be prepared to be busy and splashing the cash that month.

Also just because your babu would be due that month that doesn't mean they'll be born on the due date. Neither of my two were born in the month of their due dates but very early the next month.

WishingHopingThinkingPraying · 12/11/2020 15:47

I went into labour on my ds1s birthday. Luckily held on till after midnight for ds2 to pop out. It's not ideal but I'm just glad it's not the same day. When they're older one will get one weekend and the other the other weekend on each side of the birthdays.

My eldest was a wedding night baby and youngest an anniversary baby😂😂 So embarrassing like we only have sex once a year or something.

LivingForPinkGin · 12/11/2020 15:47

My brothers birthday is 4 days after mine. I remember being annoyed when we were children because I only had 4 days of my cards being up and then they came down for my brothers cards to be put up, id then just put mine up in my bedroom but in the grand scheme of things it didn't matter.
