To be worried that Biden could be worse than Trump

Regarding foreign policy that is. I worry that Biden could be more hawk like than Trump and start or get involved in lots of wars? But I’m so pleased Trump is going, i couldn’t stand the man and I remember when he first got in I was petrified he’d start the next big war. But he didn’t and now I worry if Biden will be the one.

He won’t, if fear they have enough of an internalised war to resolve than to start another.

Thisseatisnotavailable · 09/11/2020 18:40

What makes you think that Biden is about to start a war?

flaviaritt · 09/11/2020 18:49

He doesn’t seem particularly warlike to me.

VinylDetective · 09/11/2020 18:50

Nobody could be worse than Trump. It’s just not possible.

lemmywinks84 · 09/11/2020 18:55

Um, what?

Sources?

almondfingers22 · 09/11/2020 18:58

@Thisseatisnotavailable

What makes you think that Biden is about to start a war?
Probably a bit of an irrational fear, but probably because I had such an awful fear of Trump, because he was such a loose canon, but nothing happened. Maybe that Trump wasn’t really warlike after all, he calmed the N Korean situation. Now I’m thinking that Biden could be more of a one to fear. Confused

I think he'll probably be more interventionist abroad but I think that's not necessarily a bad thing. Obviously a lot of stuff has gone wrong in the Middle East over the last 20 years but generally the US has acted as a stabilising force globally since WW1, helping to promote and maintain democracy across the world. I think we really missed that when Trump was in power and things felt much more fragile knowing that the US was unlikely to step in to 'save' anyone.

ANoTail · 09/11/2020 19:13

I don't think Biden is a likely warmonger but "promoting and maintaining democracy" is a very euphemistic phrasing of US foreign intervention over previous decades.

AfterSchoolWorry · 09/11/2020 19:15

He seems about as belligerent as a Buddhist!

tttigress · 09/11/2020 19:16

It's possible, Trump didn't start any wars, and tried to reduce troop numbers in foreign countries.

I would like to see Biden follow this trend.

MissConductUS · 09/11/2020 19:16

Yank here. There is absolutely no basis to think that Biden is keen to start wars.

Duckwit · 09/11/2020 19:17

@VinylDetective

This. Its literally impossible!
Butteredtoast55 · 09/11/2020 19:19

I would be far more concerned about whether we have a hope in hell of any kind of ‘special relationship’ as I feel Biden probably holds Boris in considerable contempt. As a journalist Boris wrote some dodgy things about him and Biden is ferociously pro the Good Friday agreement which the Tories have threatened to dissolve.

GuyFawkesDay · 09/11/2020 19:20

The North Korea thong was classic wagging the dog. All smoke and mirrors.

Biden was VP for 8 years. Look at his record. He's more of a bringer together than a fighter, unless really necessary. The action fought under Obama were inherited from Bush (Afghanistan)

blueangel19 · 09/11/2020 19:22

Just you wait, just you wait!

Somerford · 09/11/2020 19:22

The last Democrat president was at war for every single day of a two term presidency, dropped so many bombs that he ran out of them and normalised drone strikes. Libya became a failed state, ISIS flourished and got its hands on millions of dollars worth of American arms and vehicles. Let's not act like the Democrats are anything but gleeful about foreign wars.
Igotjelly · 09/11/2020 19:22

There has been a bit in the media (mostly right wing rags like the mail) about this but actually very little substance. I think Biden has his work cut out internally trying to mend the many fractures that Trump exacerbated over the past 4 years. Personally I once again feel safe in the knowledge that there will be adults at the decision making table again.

blueangel19 · 09/11/2020 19:23

all Butteredtoast55 hopefully he will be more mature than Trump?

alexdgr8 · 09/11/2020 19:23

is this a generalised anxiety you have, OP ?
as it doesn't seem to be particularly linked to anything about Biden. maybe you just fear wars, disorder, riots affecting you ?

pandarific · 09/11/2020 19:23

Don't be so silly.

yvanka · 09/11/2020 19:25

Biden is a puppet they used to win, he will step down for Kamala after a few months. He certainly won't be allowed to make any big decisions.

Namethief · 09/11/2020 19:25

More concerned about Biden turning his nose up at Boris and refusing to strike a trade deal if Boris fails to secure a deal with the EU. We will be floating out to see without that special relationship.

BrightYellowDaffodil · 09/11/2020 19:26

So what’s the basis for your fears, @almondfingers22?

emmcan · 09/11/2020 19:28

@Somerford

Good point.

AdoptedBumpkin · 09/11/2020 19:28

TBH I am not sure a 78-year-old with possible dementia will be wanting to go to war if they can avoid it. I suspect Biden will keep the seat warm for Harris, and she will fight the next election.
