To be worried that Biden could be worse than Trump

Regarding foreign policy that is. I worry that Biden could be more hawk like than Trump and start or get involved in lots of wars? But I’m so pleased Trump is going, i couldn’t stand the man and I remember when he first got in I was petrified he’d start the next big war. But he didn’t and now I worry if Biden will be the one.

@OneKeyAtATime

I think we will see him in the international political arena but not in a military capacity. Paris agreement etc. I am not convinced he is the best man for the job in terms of domestic policy and I don't think he would have won had he been up against a more 'normal ' opponent.
Yes, I think most people were voting against Trump rather than for Biden.

@Somerford
The last Democrat president was at war for every single day of a two term presidency, dropped so many bombs that he ran out of them and normalised drone strikes. Libya became a failed state, ISIS flourished and got its hands on millions of dollars worth of American arms and vehicles. Let's not act like the Democrats are anything but gleeful about foreign wars.

This is so misleading - is your name Trump? Libya was a NATO led intervention, and President Obama inherited the Iraq and Afghanistan wars from Republican President Bush. Obama's intention was to bring those wars to an end as soon as possible, but it is neither easy nor quick to do once wars are under way. Obama did, however, manage to reduce the US troops abroad from about 150,000 to 15,000, getting most US combat troops out of Iraq by 2011 and out of Afghanistan by 2014. In 2014 the US did had to go back to give aerial support to the Iraqis in their battle against ISIL. And let's not forget that under Obama's leadership the US caught Osama bin Laden.

To claim that the Democrats are "gleeful about foreign wars" is absurd and having had one of his sons in Iraq while he was Vice-President, Joe Biden is very aware of the responsibility of sending young Americans to fight. Ironically Beau Biden survived the Iraq War but died from cancer after returning home to the US, and there is no doubt that Joe will never take lightly a decision to put other people's children at risk in another war. To suggest he would be "gleeful" to do this is, frankly, obscene.

Gleeful.

The Democrats are mostly the party that starts wars.

Kennedy started the Vietman war and Nixon ended it and yet, in the popular mind, Nixon and the Republicans are bad, wjhile Kennedy is saintlike.

Obama was involved in nine wars at the same time, I believe. His administration was running guns to Mexican drug barons and supported Mexican officials who were so corrupt that they are now on trial in New York for organized crime. All in all in that period of time, a quarter of a million were murdered in the so-called drug wars.

@CharlieBoo

I read he was a devout catholic so I’m assuming he is pro life.. despite what he tells voters
All that means is that he doesn't believe in abortion for himself?? As long as his open political stance is that women should have autonomy over their own bodies, who cares if he/his wife wouldn't have one.

It doesn't even really matter if he thinks women who have abortions are going to hell - in the privacy of his own home/mind - since his thoughts on the matter are neither here nor there if he's advocating for the right to chose publicly.

Donald is that you ??
Peregrina · 09/11/2020 23:34

It's too simple to say that Kennedy started the war - the French had been involved previously, but then were defeated. After that, Eisenhower poured money into south Vietnam to prevent a domino effect of south east Asia falling to Communism. Although he didn't promote the war, he helped to set the scene.

Anon778833 · 09/11/2020 23:34

@Butteredtoast55

I would be far more concerned about whether we have a hope in hell of any kind of ‘special relationship’ as I feel Biden probably holds Boris in considerable contempt. As a journalist Boris wrote some dodgy things about him and Biden is ferociously pro the Good Friday agreement which the Tories have threatened to dissolve.
Well I for one am glad that the U.K. government may at last be made accountable for their shit instead of being enabled by Trump. Don't think it pleases me to say it. People voted leave and now the chickens are coming home to roost. Unfortunately that means that those of us not living in hubris land will also be punished.
dreamingbohemian · 10/11/2020 00:04

@maryhadalittle

I have a feeling that Biden will cause wars. You also need to look at the Vice President too. Biden is 78 and who is the VP married to? What influence would her husband have particularly in the Middle East because Biden is 78, sooner or later he will go from either dementia or some health problems and she will step up!
Kamala is married to a lawyer.

Oh wait sorry, you were being anti-Semitic. Gotcha.

Goosefoot · 10/11/2020 02:54

I think it's possible he'll be pretty interventionist. It seems naive to me to imagine he'll govern different than other Democrats, he's never been a guy who steps out of the box.

Stepping back under Trump has been fairly good for the US, whatever his motives were, and somewhat surprisingly it seems to have led to some outcomes internationally that seem positive.

Maybe Biden will be able to carry on with that approach now that someone else has done it, but I think he will be under some significant pressure from party supporters/donors to do more.

Userzzz · 10/11/2020 03:00

Biden supported the the bombing of Serbia, Libya, Iraq and Syria. Absolutely , he will get started on a new war in this term. We have every reason to be very worried.

Userzzz · 10/11/2020 03:05

@TibetanTerrier who do you think calls the shots in NATO? Certainly not Canada! It’s the US. They start wars to economically colonize countries. Who do you think is operating and making money Iraq? The likes of Shell Oil while Iraqi citizens starve.

Goosefoot · 10/11/2020 03:08

@neithernor

Biden is odious and yes, a warmonger. Here's another link. Not that anybody seems to be reading the ones already provided.
I think it's this idea "no one could be worse than Trump".

For some reason people imagine that it means there is no way Trumps presidency or any policy he had to ever be better than any other persons, especially a seasoned politician.

Which is kind of a bizarre conclusion.

Tillthesuncomesup · 10/11/2020 06:16

@almondfingers22 I think you need counselling for your irrational fear that whoever is US president will start another war. I mean if you’re honestly saying Biden could be worse than Trump as you thought Trump would start a war then he didn’t so automatically you should fear his successor? Very odd and irrational.

Not that irrational. A war involving the UK seems quite a bit of an overdue event. Like expecting an overdue pandemic..... I thinks it’s a totally rational fear in this hotbed of an over populated world with quite a number of irrational leaders. The trick is not to dwell on it as there’s fuck all we can do on an individual level. Just live your life and don’t worry.

Did you know that George Lopez was holding that debate ? If you think about the line in that context, see the article below.

I’m also old enough to remember Reagan too.

Did you know Yes I did know.
Biden's wife reminds me of Nancy Reagan furiously giving her husband prompts.

Misbeehived · 10/11/2020 06:40

🤨 no

Oblomov20 · 10/11/2020 06:49

Ds1 was telling me all about Biden the other day. I admitted to not knowing much about him. He is really seedy and there are rumours of him with young children. His policies are questionable and despite Trump being awful, the public might think that Biden is going to be better, but is he? Much?

NullcovoidNovember · 10/11/2020 08:07
  • Obama administration's running guns to Mexican gangsters..

^^ any proof, links...

The thing with the trump, he wears it on his sleeve... We know what he is.. Others are more devious... Clinton! Lolita express... Etc etc...

Parker231 · 10/11/2020 08:14

Let’s try and be positive. Trump is out - nothing could have been as bad as him getting another four years.

A huge positive is that Biden's climate plan could put the Paris Agreement's goal of limiting global warming to 1.5˚C within striking distance.

NotAKaren · 10/11/2020 08:45

I think you should be more worried about Trump starting a civil war in his own country and the fact that quarter of a million people have died from Covid which he refuses to deal with. The man is deranged.

"rumours"

By that you mean deranged conspiracy theory cultists

Stop doing QAnon's work for them.

FlouncingBabooshka · 10/11/2020 10:01

@Oblomov20 I think you need to worry less about Biden and more about the weird conspiracy theory rabbit holes you’re losing your son down.
