To want to know if the Republicans have any grounds to suspect fraud

Not a fan of either Trump or Biden.

Due to Trump's pathetic behaviour it is easy to dismiss his claims.

But some claims (if true) seem to be worthy of investigation.

On what grounds. He can't claim fraud without proof.

Palavah · 09/11/2020 17:59

Depends jf they produce evidence that stands up to the most basic scrutiny.

So far none has been provided.

You might not be a fan of Biden but surely Trump is incomparable.

Namechangedforthisoct2 · 09/11/2020 17:59

Agree, there definitely seems some fishy behaviour going on across the pond!

SpeccyLime · 09/11/2020 17:59

If there was any evidence it would be available - but there isn’t. He can say whatever he likes but with no evidence to back it up it’s just meaningless pissing in the wind.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 09/11/2020 18:02

Given how little sense US political process makes to me I thought this would be difficult to work out. But, just from looking at the pictures his team put with their words:

We couldn't get our observers in to watch the count --> picture of about 200 people in the hall watching and another 5-600 trying to get through the doors!

Just that one thing alone gives me the strong impression that he's talking crap!

Lonelycrab · 09/11/2020 18:03

Recounts have never changed the result by more than a few hundred. He needs tens of thousand across several states.

Bearing in mind he’s is a textbook narcissist, it’s unsurprising that he thinks it’s impossible for him to lose.

Unescorted · 09/11/2020 18:03

The court cases so far have failed due to a lack of evidence. Team Trump are asking their fan base on Twitter for evidence. I am guessing if they had incontrovertible something that looked vaguely credible and couldn't be disproved with a quick reverse Google image search proof they would have told the world.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 09/11/2020 18:04

I think it is probably true to say that there is some fraud in most, if not all, elections - but it is on a very small scale, and has no material effect on the results of the election.

Trump is having a toddler tantrum - throwing his toys out of the pram and declaring “It’s NOT FAAAAIIIRR!”.

gwenneh · 09/11/2020 18:06

There will be some recounts, in some cases automatically triggered and in some cases by request of the Trump team, but those are separate to the issue of fraud.

Without evidence, fraud cases are being dismissed. The recounts will hold things up for a few days but states have to certify their votes shortly so they won't be too long about it.

cheezy · 09/11/2020 18:13

Im also interested to know whether there is any truth to the claims.
But, even if there is, surely the most plausible explanation is that the Democrats won by a small margin rather than that they rigged t he entire election..?

gwenneh · 09/11/2020 18:17

Any credible evidence would be everywhere by now. There's just no sign of any.

I'm 100% happy to let the judges make that call, though. And recounts just mean I get to watch him lose twice. The only annoying thing is it eats into time for the transition team, which is what this is really about -- buying time.

Brighterthansunflowers · 09/11/2020 18:17

If he had evidence he would be shouting about it. He had no evidence, he’s a repulsive overgrown toddler throwing a tantrum

KungFuWeetabix · 09/11/2020 18:22

There was a good article on the BBC debunking their 4 most prominent claims of voter fraud. Mostly human/admin error. Not malicious.
I'm not denying that some individuals and small groups may well have tried to make some small fraudulent votes, entirely possible. On both sides.

Surely, if the Democrats were going to rig the election, they’d have made it a lot less down-to-the-wire than it actually was! Not a landslide - that would look suspicious - but not as close as it was.

StrippedFridge · 09/11/2020 18:26

In any election anywhere for anything there will be some fraudulent votes so I fully expect there have been some bad votes in the US presidential election.

Trump is accusing politicians and administrators in swing States of collusion in large scale organised fraud to benefit the Democrats. That's one hell of an allegation. I do not believe it is true. I hope the state governors or whoever can do him for slander after it is kicked out of court.

DynamoKev · 09/11/2020 18:27

Part of the problem is not being able to trust every online source.
There are claims of 95% turnout in at least one place, of tranches of votes without a single vote for Trump (possible but surely a little unlikely) and of dead people apparently casting ballots.

I realise and fully accept that some or all of these claims could be false and that they in any case may not affect the outcome.

OP posts:
Lonelycrab · 09/11/2020 18:27

Weren’t there two tooled up Republican QAnon nutters arrested with a truckload of fake Trump ballots though?

Smileyaxolotl1 · 09/11/2020 18:28

There seems to be a number of things happening that would not be acceptable in the U.K. for example the person in charge of the Philly count had previously tweeted anti Trump rhetoric. I’m pretty sure that wouldn’t be ok here.
There also seems to be quite a lot of dead voters
But
This doesn’t seem different to any previous elections in the US.

gwenneh · 09/11/2020 18:28

@Lonelycrab there were two arrested with firearms, not ballots.

gwenneh · 09/11/2020 18:29

@Smileyaxolotl1 There are a lot of dead voters still registered. There are none proven to have actually voted.

DesperatelySeekingSunshine · 09/11/2020 18:34

Don’t forget that Trump is the man that tried to illegally register to vote in Florida with an out of state address.
And then did manage to register to vote there giving Florida as legal state of residence.
Fuck knows what he’s been doing in D.C. all this time if he lives in Florida!
Clearly thinks everybody is corrupt as he is!

Lonelycrab · 09/11/2020 18:34

@gwenneh ah yes found the story now. Police found texts on their phones- they were traveling to pick up the fake ballots when they got busted it sounds like.

DynamoKev · 09/11/2020 18:34

@TeenPlusTwenties Thanks for that link - I'd read an earlier fact check on some of Trump's daft pronouncements but that one is useful.
